    I have the Tacx Flux, the early failures didn’t scare me off because I watched Shane Millers videos and knew a Tacx had addressed the issue.

    One way to solve the problem of changing wheels, etc. is to buy another bicycle, used solely for training. It should have very close geometry and be relatively inexpensive. Bikes Direct sells'm cheap so, for me, that eliminated the inconvenience.
    In fact, once I purchased the Tacx Neo (NOT cheap) and mounted the front bicycle fork on a Cyclops roller fork holder (with added wooden "legs" for stability) I didn't have to deal with wheels and tires at all. And, with the Neo, no need to calibrate either.
    I'm now starting to study how to get into and stay in shape without even needing to exercise, so I could (therefore) eliminate everything. Tough going though....

    My Flux 1 stopped working, no lights, no sound coming out of it. And, as Murphy specified, it happened 3 months after the 2y warranty expired.
    I sent it to Tacx to repair it at my expense, and they returned it without fixing it, because "they don't produce it any more and they don't have spares for it" even if they are currently selling Flux S that is the same trainer with different legs

    After having to junk 2 tacx trainers within weeks or few months there's no way i can risk another. Pot luck if it lasts more than a week. Think the Elite Directo is about same price now and looks a better class

    I bought one in April, a terrible decision as it turns out, has to be replaced. Tacx confirmed to me it needs replacement but bike shop won't just exchange, is sending back blah blah I'm without a trainer and don't know when I'll get it back.

    I've ridden 5000k+ on my Genius (like a bushido) on a new pair of GP4000s2's and they look brand new. (Old bike so it only sits on the trainer but no need for the spesific tires my friend).

      I did less than 25km (Zwift trial) with GP4000S II on my Vortex (like a bushido) and it got totally ruined ! I then bought a dedicated trainer tyre and it's still there after almost two Winters of indoor training.

    I like this video, I have now made up my mind but I am not sure where to plan on putting it - balcony, living room, garage... the issue is noise, this video said it was quiet to run but the evidence did not point to that, I actually thought it was pretty noisy. For a piece of kit like this then I would expect noise, but I can't quite work out how loud training is going to be.

      It was the sensitive microphone placement so close. Its actually much more silent than that. You hardly feel it over your fan noise lets say.

    I have a 9-speed derailleur and this trainer seems to have more cogs than that, so do I need to change something or can I just operate the trainer and the bike together while sacrificing the use of a couple of gears?

    • @eagerbob
      @eagerbob Před 3 lety

      it comes without a cassette. Just buy an extra 9 speed cassette and put it in the trainer.

    Which diet adjustment did you make?

  • @surfinDelMar
    @surfinDelMar Před 4 lety

    I am finding when I use my Flux I need to make rear derailleur adjustments for downshifting. I have to shift twice to get it downshift. Is this a common problem or am I missing something? Upshifts seems to be fine for the most part. My derailleur shifts fine when I have my wheel on and I'm running eTap 11-speed. When I mounted the cassette the Tacx directions said no spacer was needed so I believe I have everything set up properly. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Dani, thank you for the video. Any maintenance tips/recommendations for the direct mount trainer? For example lubing chain? using same chain with two different cassettes, any problems? chain wear? thank you.

    • @hugoburton5222
      @hugoburton5222 Před 6 lety

      If you use the same cassette (like in the groupset you use). Or if it is compatible. As long as it's not like a sram casette and you use a shimano groupset on your bike.

    Hi i am the owner of Trek 520 ,2018 year. I am interested to buy of this trainer. I found out that Flux model isn't compatible with long cage derailleur. I think my bike has that type derailleur. Is it any chance to upgrade somehow my bike ? If not can you recommend me any different trainer in the same range of price and functions? Thanks.

  • @London_Calling_2012
    @London_Calling_2012 Před 5 lety +2

    I’m sorry but I disagree with everyone’s instant reaction (including you) to send their trainer back as soon as it starts to get a bit of belt squeak as they think it’s faulty. I’ve owned a Flux trainer for well over. a year and a half, I love it and I have no problem with a bit of intermittent belt squeak. Why? Well, I believe it’s down to a few factors. 1. Calibration - calibrate your trainer regularly. 2. Temperature - depending on the temp, the belt could shrink and get stiffer during colder weather exacerbating the squeak and expand and getting softer in warmer weather reducing the squeak. If you watch my video, you’ll hear it on spin down, but it’s not a noise that happens all of the time and frankly, my fan is noisier. I can also confirm there’s no internal damage caused to the trainer from the squeak.

    • @lazurm
      @lazurm Před 5 lety

      London Calling 2012: I agree with most of what you wrote BUT I'd definitely advise opening up the trainer in the rare case of a squeak caused by a trainer trapped mouse, not to mention other squeaky vermin.

    • @christrickett3291
      @christrickett3291 Před 4 lety

      My issue with that approach is, EVERY time I try to repair ANYTHING I end up with a dozen other things breaking. It has got to the stage that I even went to the bike shop to get my pedals tightened despite having the right tools in my bag. Embarrassing, but if I mend a puncture you can be sure I get another two - even in the other wheel.

    About to upgrade from a wheel on Tacx vortex to a direct drive. Either a flux 2, brand new or a Tacx neo, 2nd hand. Anyone have any thoughts?

    • @christrickett3291
      @christrickett3291 Před 4 lety

      I have been asking around and the verdict where I live seems to be that Tacx Flux is the way to go. Those who have a wheel-based one are OK with them but keen to upgrade. Those with Flux just seem to love them

    Do such trainers have only discrete resistance adjustment, or can it also emulate fluid trainers behaviour, that is, resistance increase as you go faster?

    I don't know why anyone would buy one of these. Having recently purchased one, I was surprised to discover that the Flux line only connects with the Tacx Training App and cannot be used on Zwift. I emailed their customer support to see if I could somehow purchase an unlock to be able to hook up to Zwift, but they don't answer emails. It is no better than my old fluid trainer that I rode while pairing my bike's power meter to Zwift. There "controllable" features are only available on Wahoo trainers, not from Tacx.
