      Have you heard of the input shaft breaking in the transmissions? I have a 06 E-250 and thats exactly what happened to it. 245,000 miles though. Cant really complain if the tranny has never been touched. I got the van with 189,000 on it. This is the 1st major issue I have had with the van. Motor runs great. When I got it I replaced the plugs and coil packs with the Accel coil packs and she runs perfect. Put in Autolite Double Platinums.

    Usually those who end with problems are the ones that chuck the instructions in the trash. Just follow instructions, put the ego away and just do what the manufacturer says. This is a perfect example of a job well done.

    Not long after the first video came out I had a blowout in my V-10. I bought all of the tools and accessories you linked to in the description and fixed it myself, this was 4-5 months ago and it's still running strong! Thank you for your videos and excellent advice and how-tos, I had my laptop with me and referenced back to your CZcams video a couple of times. The blowout I had prior was from a poor repair which cost me my old Mustang (caught fire when the plug blew again), I actually loaned the CalVan kit out to that shop for an E-250 they did a couple of weeks ago and pointed him towards your video for how to do it right.

    I spent a tidy sum for a time sert kit for my flathead v8 that had some very weak block threads for the head bolts. The kit was very well made, and the drills, tap, and insert tool are top end quality. I was really worried about drilling into that engine, but it drilled and tapped like butter! Those inserts lock in when done properly, zero issues with the head bolts now.

    I use J-B Weld 37901 ExtremeHeat High Temperature paste, and my inserts aren’t ever coming out. I have fixed so many cracked cylinder heads and engine blocks with JB Weld working in the radiator shop that I won’t even consider using anything else. Bocks, heads, radiators, heater cores, condensers, oil coolers you name it.
    I have also seen many failures with people who have used high heat red thread locker. The JB Weld is a high metallic paste and you won’t be having your insert back out because the JB Weld turns rock solid. I understand that people prefer to use what worked for them in the past, and that’s why I prefer the JB Weld, because it works.

    Now is the time to do them all. I dropped a valve in my Kenworth because the valve keeper fell out. The Cat shop asked me if I wanted the new improved valve keepers on the new rebuilt engine. Well, duhh. Of course, improve it when the opportunity comes up. Oh, the final bill on that rebuild was $22,000.

    i work for a big courier fleet and we have really big fleet of E450 with 5.4 2v..... and we do not see that issue very much.....the only one that had that issue..... is the one that we sent to ford dealer for warranty for oil leaking head gasket on the right side.... and they came back to the our garage with blow out spark plug on one cylinder about one month after back from ford dealer and we have notice on engine..... the other spark plug ...... were louse .....so the ford dealer replace with a brand new head ....on warranty and this happing on the truck that they did .....so i have to say ....the ford head gasket are not very good.... .because they always leak not long after .....so we had to redo there job that did .....the right side head .... .and we have ford with 5.4 since 1999 and are truck work 10 hour a day......so for my 40 year of experience the cause is loose spark plug that i have seen... we buy only ford part no other brand .....but not the head gasket .

    I’ve never had a plug blow out in a 2v 5.4. I’ve always torqued the plugs to 28ft lbs. I believe the very low factory torque spec is the main culprit here. Yeah the very few threads don’t help the situation but the low torque is an issue.

    I've got an E350 with the 5.4 2v engine and am putting off doing the head gaskets. Every once and a while, you get a slight vapor trail on start up and a small coolant loss in two to three months. The old fashion pellet Bars Leak has kept things intact.
    I want to remove the heads, resurface and install the inserts, but with the additional costs of water pump, timing chains, oil pump and gaskets, in parts, I'm close to $1,000, not counting my labor. Looking like a springtime 2019 project.
    Any thoughts on installing a rebuilt 5.4 3valve engine?

    • @daninva6458
      @daninva6458 Před 5 lety

      If your van is supposed to have a 2 valve, I wouldn't swap a 3 valve in it. Your PCM isn't set up to control the cam phasers on the 3 valve, and I strongly suspect that neither it or the factory harness can be updated to support that. I'm not 100% on the other wires and inputs, though.

    I’ve got a 2004 Ford F-150 4.6 L engine. It’s got around 210,000 miles on it. Just replaced torque converter and essentially rebuilt the transmission Bc it was slipping slightly when we bought it. Even after replacing the transmission I will be at a red light and give it gas and it won’t go for abt 3-5 seconds and then it’s like it finally registers and goes, after that it’s fine it’s only on takeoff. I’ve had it at a local mechanic for two months now they said they’ve tried everything, said it’s running on 75% power and it’s also not throwing codes. Can anyone give me there opinion on this problem and what solutions there are??

    Why did Ford Engineers design a cylinder head with so few threads? Coming from the aviation world as a mechanic 4 or 5 threads is not going to do the job. In fact, we had to have a certain number of threads exposed after torquing. Knowing they have a problem has the situation been corrected or is it business as usual? Just wondering if their quality has improved.

      The heads were revised somewhere in the the area of 2005, someone will correct that I'm sure. Ford then decided a new fangled spark plug was in order, goes in one piece...comes out in 2 now and again. But it had plenty of threads. I have had a few break but they have decent tools to do the dirty work of getting the bits out. I have had an 04 push one out while i was standing there listening to a belt drive noise. Poor little coil just beating away like a heart. It didn't get a time-sert, heli coil installed by another tech. Never had a problem other than cleaning out all the junk he let fall in.

    • @FloorItDuh
      @FloorItDuh Před 5 lety

      Come on Arthur. You know as well as I do why manufacturers generally don't cut corners in aviation. It matters when you are in the air but if you are on the ground it's whatever just pull off on the side of the road. That and FAR 23 being a codified law makes it ill advised to push out a bad product in the first place. PMA/TSO's tend to cost a company a deal of money due to all the testing and certification required to get an STC.

    Heck it would almost be worth doing the inserts just to save your self from breaking down somewhere

    Didn't ford fix the problem by a head redesign in 2008(ish)? I really want to know this, please take a sec as I'm building a 2v rn.

      this issues was fixed in 2001 or so, the 2008 head redesign was the 3v engines.

    I thought this problem was only with the Triton engines. And the Triton engines have 3 valves right?

    Should you just go ahead and put inserts in the rest of the cylinders before you send it to the machine shop.

      Your not supposed to use any. Ngk says so. As long as you know that the anti sease changes the torque value

    Bottom line it is a bad design and ford should be responsible for any repairs. Just another reason to buy a Honda or a Toyota. There is no excuse for only having four threats to hold it in.

    What kind of insert Is that? Or what is the part number to it?

  • @c.n.h4841
    @c.n.h4841 Před 5 lety

    Should be fine with a insert as long as you dont over torque the spark plug then you may have problems with the insert

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 Před 5 lety

      Are you guessing here? In my experience an insert in aluminum can take far more torque than the original threads.

    • @c.n.h4841
      @c.n.h4841 Před 5 lety

      I'm just talkin about people overpowering their spark plugs and pulling out the insert when they go to do a spark plug change do you only need to take your spark plugs insert them till snug and then do a quarter-turn not get a full 360 degree turn after they're already snug I have seen guys do it before
