Ex-swimmer Sharron Davies on why she opposes transgender athletes in women's sports

  • The former swimmer stressed she was not transphobic but argued that transgender athletes had an unfair advantage.
    Her views have been criticised by transgender groups who say she is in fact a transphobe and her views amount to 'hate speech'.

Trying to stop a debate because it’s uncomfortable by calling one side moral & inclusive (which makes the other side appear mean) is a terrible way to handle an important debate/conversation that needs to be had to ensure everyone is represented in the above mentioned debate/conversation.

      I agree that trans women have an unfair advantage and that there needs to be some sort of solution so everyone can play while keeping the games fair... but the language this woman uses, such as “Young boys are allowed to compete if they identify as women” is unfortunately transphobic. She has the wrong approach and just needs to work on her language and perhaps she would get around to trans people better.

    • @Dutch3DMaster
      @Dutch3DMaster Před 4 lety +40

      Yea, little bit of a problem with the genetical thing and that last part, because there are biochemical processes in the womb that can actually change that. • @Dutch3DMaster
      @Dutch3DMaster Před 4 lety +17

      @@ammiiel Exceptions? People born with an intersex condition are actually a lot less rare than people who are transgender, in about 1 to 200 births someone is born with either a visible or non-visible deviation of the reproductive organs considered to fall in the category of the many intersex conditions there are, compared to about 1 in 10.000 births in which the person later turns out to be transgender.
      And why shouldn't we bend for the smallest of minorities (which, are not small, but ok), because, we do it a lot actually, we have medical help for people with rare conditions who would've died otherwise, we built systems so people born with a disibility (whatever it is) can move mostly freely from A to B without to much of a hassle, so I don't really see why sports should be any different.
      Also, some people might not even know they are born with an intersex condition up until the moment in their life they expect puberty to start and either notice absolutely no effects of that at all, or notice the onset of puberty belonging to the other sex than what they were identified as at birth going off on how they were physically built.
      This, for instance can lead to boys being physically looking as boys who start to develop breasts (and not just swollen milk glands that boys can have at the onset of puberty) or girls who notice they are growing a beard.

    • @ammiiel
      @ammiiel Před 4 lety +98

      Iris A quick search told me the figure is actually 1/2000 births, not 200. Maths concludes that that is 0.05% of the population. Hence it is IMPLAUSIBLE to bend the norm for the SMALLEST of the smallest of minorities.

These same women that are now arguing against transgender women participating in these "womens" sports don't talk about women in men's sports. When women were told that they can not participate in a male sport they cried misogyny and sexual discrimination. I do not argue that there is no biological difference, I only argue that what was fair for women when they forced participation in men's sports is now fair for transgendered that want to participate in women's sports. Women have argued equality, and while some may say that I am equating equality and equal, I say that I am only using it in the manner that feminists have used it since the third wave feminism movement has started. Equal work for equal pay, the problem with that is that no matter how hard they try, when it comes to highly physical jobs, the workload is not equal between a man and a woman yet they want to get the same pay that a man receives. They wanted to play american football and fought to be able to do so, while they have not played in the NFL yet, they have played at every other level. This is the real problem, equality does not mean equal unless it is a woman that is being told she can not do something even when it is in an area where she doesn't and never will have the ability to perform at the same level as a man. If a woman can work a job or participate in a sport with men when she is clearly at a physical disadvantage, then transgender women should be afforded the same opportunities and be allowed to participate in a woman's sport.

      The US army did a study on gender strengths with a couple of exceptions each way the top 10% women were in the bottom 40% of the Male results
      (sorry cant dredge exact numbers .but Joe Rogan covered it while discussing P fox)
      The IDF which has used women in the front line service longer concluded similar results ,even after transition most retain a massive advantage over their chosen sex.

      Women and Men are completely equal, and more should be done to make this the case in every aspect of life! However, two of my cousins have decided to have sex changes. One Male to Female, whilst my other cousin did the opposite! After the latter after having gone through testosterone therapy, was markedly stronger and fitter, to his own admission. Far from the converse, the former cousin still kept the majority of her former strength, despite nearly 4 years of hormone therapy and cosmetic surgery! This is what the lady is trying to argue, thus making it quite correctly unfair. I have nothing against anyone of any creed, colour or kind but all against those whom seek to sow division.
