One thing I’ve learned through my own learning of manual is that goal 1 is to be able to confidently get on the road and get where you need, whether the methods you do are “best” or not, so you can actually practice the best ways without fear. For example my first few days dailying manual, I was shifting into first and getting revs just as the cross traffic light turned yellow, so that all I had to do was get off the clutch properly. This allowed me to erase the fear of stalling, and focus on getting the timing and feel better comfortably

Only exception is on a hill. If i lift the clutch up first to the bite point and then throttle, I can have minimal or no rollback at all.
I hear you have to use handbrake on hills in the UK, but here in Australia, it's never taught as mandatory. I find it a hassle to use handbrake unless the hill is really steep.

I'm now driving for the first time since in my husbands car and finding that his car doesn't do well on that and having to learn to do it without it and I panic when the car starts to roll. I also find the bite point first before the gas and learning that the car doesn't do well on that either so having to learn to do gas before clutch. I accidentally got into a bad habit of letting up the clutch first when I was just practicing in the driveway as its easier to control the car that way for a beginner, but in the real world its way better to build up revs with the gas first and then ease up the clutch.

My problem was to do with realising the handbrake on time rather than the clutch control but I guess with more practice I'll get better at it. Great video!

Great video, thanks, I'm driving heavier car now and did have problems, lighter car was more responsive without adding much gas, now it's different, and new car has a lot more horsepower. I'll try with more gas. Thanks again, very good lesson.
