Bolt's 100 especially was insane. 9.58 is other wordly. Did you know the 2nd place time of Tyson Gay (9.71) is a time that hasn't been bested in the last decade? 2009~2012 Bolt, Gay, & Blake all ran a sub-9.7, but 2013~2023 not a single person has beat Tyson Gay's 2nd place 9.71 run, & he was still over a tenth of a second behind Bolt in a race that is normally won in hundredths of a second.

#7 Yulimar Rojas Oregon 2022 is undeserved IMO. It was the *FIFTH* all time best triple jump in woman's history, she had dismantled the competition by her second jump that day, and (outside avid women's triple jump fans) the event was simply not nearly as anticipated as other moments in the WC. Lewis vs Powell 1991, on the other hand, was everything one can ask for: WR, competitive, highly anticipated. This poll somehow placed it at #11.

  • @stacyb1341

No one is topping Usain's 2009 WCs. No one. It was just too perfect.
IAAF didn't need to spend a penny for marketing to have that stadium packed, such was the hype.
Meanwhile, Bolt was still partying hard & missed a month of training from foot surgery, yet Tyson hadn't missed a beat. It provided room for doubt. Could there be an upset?
It was one of the few times in sporting history when an athlete and an event actually lived up to the hype
Carl Lewis had to eat crow. Germany commissioned a mural on part of the Berlin wall in honor of Bolt, and the world once again remembered that sprinting existed outside Olympic years. It was the year Bolt transcended athletics and became an icon, and in so doing, singlehandedly dragged T&F back from the brink of obscurity.
Short of a woman breaking all of FloJo's records in a single World Championships, Bolt in Berlin will never be topped.

Facts, his 2015 WC could’ve easily been #2 that’s the year Gatlin was on fire running the fastest times of the year and Bolt still won the treble without being 90%fit he was about 80, no one tops Bolt!!

    • @stacyb1341
      @stacyb1341 Před 10 měsíci +3

@jomohector5274 Agreed, but I'd say Bolt was only about 60% fit. He hadn't been able to compete the majority of the year due to injuries, and Gatlin was undefeated for the entire season. Short of Gatlin false starting, he was going to win. It was inevitable.
And then Bolt did something I'd never seen before or since.
He used the rounds to get race sharp for the final.
And we saw him do it.
He had a godawful season and the final wasn't as fast as we were used to but it was such an incredible feat. Definitely #2 on theall-timee greatest performance list. Too bad it's so often overlooked. Then he absolutely demolished Gatlin in the 200 just for emphasis.
It was greatness on a whole other level

I still hear current sprinters think they can get the WR (from interviews & such), but in the last decade (2013~2023) not a single sprinter has beat Tyson Gay's 2nd place time of 9.71 in this race. Bolt (9.63 in 2012), Gay (9.69 in 2009 or 2010), Blake (9.69 in 2012) are the only 3 performances that have beat Tyson Gay's 2nd place 9.71 since the 2009 WC Final. Even then 9.69 is still over a tenth of a second behind, in a race that is normally won by hundredths, nobody is close, crazy record.

Then the rush of euphoria when I realized I'd just witnessed true greatness: the 9.5 was real. A human being had just run below 9.6.
It was like seeing the impossible but not being able to fully comprehend what was seen. Only Bolt could do the impossible and make it look effortless. Berlin will never be topped.

19.19 for 200m almost identical speed for the 100m. I believe these guys are running the 50m-150m section in under 9 seconds (not ‘losing’ time at the start as they are accelerating from the blocks). It feels like 200m or just beyond is the point where the speed can’t quite be maintained for longer at the moment. Looking at the 300m (30.81) and 400m (43.03) WRs it starts to drop off at a fair rate relatively. I’ll have to read up on the science behind it and why that is. I wonder if we will see a sub 30.0 300m in the next 50 years or so.

Compare that to Edwards who nearly 30 years ago broke (his own) world record twice in 20 minutes adding a whole foot onto the record which has hardly been challenged for 3 decades, but that came 15th. Bolt and McLaughlin dead heat. But 99% of people have tried to run a fast sprint at some stage in there life as compared to a paced 400mh so for that reason Bolt is the GOAT. But what Sydney has done she's amazing. If she can somehow jag the 400m sprint record she can possibly jump into #1.
