Credit to Edinburgh Athletics Club which produced Jake Wightman and Josh Kerr, two lads who grew up only a few miles from each other and who trained and raced alongside each other before they had even reached their teens. The first British athletes to win the World 1500 title in forty years!
Wightman is English you numpty and he was coached by his Dad. Dont be trying that sneaky stuff Mr Scot.
Absolutely brilliant.. What a performance by Kerr.. I've watched some amazing races by British athletes over the years and this is right up there as well as Weightmans too.. Well done lad!
Remember this Jakob was sick 🤒 that’s a fact and still win silver and today gold he will win 1500 one day
@@espenthoresen998 If he was that sick he shouldn't have run and surely he would have pulled out of the 5000m that started the following day!? You don't recover from illness that quickly.
@@deano27671 that’s not true of course you can feel sick without fever but feeling sour trout and not feel good in your body
I sooo hope Wightman or Kerr can beat that **** JI in Paris 🤞. If either do then we can truly say that the glory days of 1500m running are back.
@@lingolarker9318 nope if Jakob is more healthy he will be stronger one 1500 and win double Olympic
That is an incredible performance from Josh Kerr. You can just see how seriously he dug deep and went through the gears to win this. Amazing
Two World Champions from Edinburgh AC
Never forget to eat a piece of humble pie. Well done Kerr. Absolutely deserved it.
Wow, wow, wow! That was utterly astonishing by Kerr .... Stunning
Well done young man. You made your family and your country proud.
lol what country, that is owned by everyone else in the world??????????
Kerr was amazing in that race. Also the finish by Nordàs was incredible too.
Yeah, he was sprinting like in completely different event. That finish deserved silver, almost made it.
@@andriusk5044 In the Tokyo Olympic final, Kerr finished like Nordas and almost got the silver on the line.... so maybe Nordas will win in Paris??
@@david2804meit's amazing he's gone under the radar, the guys only what, 18? He has some serious potential
@@joelmacinnes2391 no. Nordas is about 25 but it’s true he seems only to have surfaced since Geert Ingebrigtsen took over his training. It’s the Dutch guy Larios who is only 18/19 and who is a real talent too.
i guess ingebrigtsen learned a lesson: a bolt like show is only cool if u take the win in the end.
He got his comeuppance for being too cocky. We Brits don't like people who get too big for their boots. Well done, Josh Kerr, for a very special win. Jakob, eat some humble pie and come back a better sportsman.
@@djackson652flashback to every English world cup campaign...
a Bolt like show? did he prepare something if he won?
It’s being from the reality show space i Guarantee it
@djackson652 Oh shut up, ‘us Brits’…we’re some of the most ARROGANT and badly underperforming athletes on earth. Stop your nonsense about humble pie - focus on the fact the boy ran a great race and won, not that stupid uppity arrogance that has made us Brits HATED the world over.
What a run by Kerr. Utterly fabulous. 🎉🎉
Well done Josh! Scotland is proud of you!
As is the entire UK.
Fantastic win! What an amazing, gutsy run by Kerr.
Fantastic Josh Kerr, go on lad!!!!!
Back to back wins for Team GB and this one on the 40th anniversary championship when all time great Steve Cram took the first WC gold!
About 3 tenths of a second faster than the world record Steve Cram set in 1985.
@@sharpvidtube second only to Mo Farah I think in terms of British record. Incredible performance.
@@Daz555Daz Yes, on a slow track.
@@sharpvidtube yes, but the technological advances in the shoes since 2019 (that are meant to improve performance by between 1 & 1.5% - 2 to 3 secs) and the Mondo track in Budapest mean that a 3:29 is more like a 3:32 on early 80's tracks and with spikes from that period. It was an incredible run by Josh and he proved himself the best in the world on the day it matters, but we should be careful in comparing times (especially in 1500m and above due to the exponential effect on return of energy given) from performances from different eras. Cram of 85 would have no problems running significantly faster than he did on today's scene.
Very gutsy run, great self-belief!
Bloody hell that was SO good. Looked like Josh Kerr even had a bit more in the locker too! Awesome. Clearly Seb Coe was also blown away with that performance... No greater compliment I reckon.
British middle distance is back on the map after a long time in the wilderness. 👌🏾
Should probably specify men's middle distance running there!
@@Crasky1992 No because Womens middle distance running is also back on the map. British Women regularly making the final and Keeley Hodgkinson is already one of the few British Athletes to have won a medal at every major Outdoor championships and she is only 21.
@@ebojfmdboojoh4023 My comment was more alluding to the point women's has been on the map for a long while now!
@@Crasky1992or to be even more specific, Edinburgh
The flying Scotsman!🏴 Well done Josh, Scotland is so proud of you 👍
Fantastic.....you are a great runner josh...Gold medal ..and world champion....❤
Really the run of an entire life... he will tell to his kids ... this is the great britain tradition and school in the mile run
Tears of joy! Fantastic!
i think the best is yet to come he just won world 3000 indoors and his last 400 was one of the greatest ever 52 last lap
Oh soo good, so brave, what a performance, what a field of athletes he had to beat. wonderful just wonderful
Yes; come on Josh Kerr.
Did it the exact same way Wightman did a year ago. Only with even more self-believe and confidence to wreck Ingebrigtsen down the final straight.
Kerr's was the stronger run physically, but I think Wightman's was a little better, a little braver. Because Josh had the advantage of knowing the Wightman Solution, he could be confident in how it could be done. But Jake had to invent that solution with his dad (echoes of the Coes) out of nothing but belief.
Awesome, and Seb gave him his medal
Sergio bubka
Guess he's saying, "mate YOU are number one now"! That really means something.
@@peterharrington8709 bro don t worry be happy🙂
WELL DONE , KERR. AMAZING FINISH , JUST AMAZING
Jakobs arrogance will be his undoing. Brilliant run by Josh 👍🇬🇧🏃♂️
A cocky little s#it that needed to be taken down a peg or two .
Fantastic what a change of gear when the bell rang 👏🏻
Absolutely fantastic great to watch well done
I absolutely 💯 love this run by Josh kerr brilliant 👏 😀 and he showed how you prove your good with an outstanding performance Go Josh !!
Incredible stuff. Well done Josh!
That was class, composed tactics by kerr, well done lad
Fantastic from Scotland
Ive been waiting a long time for this.. fantastic run 😊
'Your boy... your boy... took a hell of a beating.'
Took me back to the 80’s Coe, Ovett and Cram. Good days.
I remember as a 11 year old kid watching Sebastian coe winning the 1500m at the Moscow games
You've done it again Eurosport. You put the result in the title of the video. Have you not heard of spoilers?
Wow Wow Wow...... absolute brilliance!!! 😎
This is briliant.. congratulations karr.
I didn't get to watch it on the BBC, I can only imagine Steve Cram's commentary for this race 😂😂
I have. Steve seemed pleased!
6:47 Super classy from Nordas.
Wow. What a performance, indeed.
Tactically brilliant performance by Kerr.
Amazing - well done Kerr!
Brilliant race by Kerr, congratulations GB!
Superb from Josh that was Ovett like!
What a performance❤
AMzing performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally....!!!!...I knew the time would come for Kerr!! Well done!!
Congratulations Mr kerr gold for you and great Britain 🎉
Hell of a medal presentation...
They never explained what all that was about. One of the best things for an athlete is standing atop the podium whilst your nation's flag is raised and the national anthem is played.
@@jaysmith2858 They did the official ceremony with anthems outside the stadium the following day. My understanding is they wanted to speed up the schedule in the stadium and use the 'fan zone'.
A legendary run, by the 2nd Norwegian to medal.
An absolutely heroic effort.
Amazing run
Ingebristeen was so Arrogant this year before was many legends in this distance all have been so humble.
Thanks for taking away the results in the title👍
Kerr ran the perfect race. Well done to him.
About time Ingebrigsen got knocked down a peg or two. He thought he was invincible with his arrogance. Well done Josh Kerr that showed him
Amazing performance
How to beat ingerbritsen, simply take him on in the final 200 metres? He may be able to win eaces on the grand prix circuit with pace makers, but in championship races he's found out.
Exactly.... hes the pacemaker....
Ingerbritsen is a class act, but over the last lap if the pace hasn’t been too suicidal he hasn’t got the turnover of leg speed of a 800m runner to run away from thenm, don’t get me wrong he still is extremely talented.
Josh Kerr not even picked as one of the six finalists for Sports Personality of the year. I suppose he didn't tick two
of the BBC'S most important boxes.
Got this spot on. Knew when to join the front of the pack and timed his final push for the line perfectly. Had he gone justba second earlier or later he'd have been outkicked and probably ended up in 3rd.
That gave me goosebumps!
Wow what a race sensational
There can be no complaints about either performance in this race.
Ingebrigtsen is the fastest in the world at the moment so going for a fast time is a good strategy.
Kerr could stay with the pace and won the sprint by going quite early and burning Ingebrigtsen's stamina.
A damned good race.
Being the fastest in the world going into the race doesnt count for much, this is championship racing and twice now in the 1500 he has tasted defeat, i think because when running a true run race , he cracks just a bit, ... KH was fastest going into 800 and came away with silver and is focused on gold but has more respect for herself and does not make excuses, also very respectful of the other athletes, jacob could try that, he is a great runner, but comes across as arrogant and then when defeated trots out same old , im not feeling great, but okay i can still win the 5000 not at full throttle, that was my disappointment, would loved for Katir to have won, oh and did not here Katir making excuses
Ingebritsen too sure of himself all over socials for the past days, was defo not expecting Kerr to dare launch that kick acceleration in the last 130 meters. I thought he'd still have gas left in the tank but he did a mistake leading the pack the entire race instead of keeping his energy for the end. So many world class athletes did the same mistake and it keeps happening...
Fear!
i feel like instead he just had a too slow pace maybe? Ingebrigsten definitely isn't the stronger finisher and shoulve played on the pace.
Brilliant run by Kerr
Incredible.
Perfekt Kerr🎉🎉🎉🎉
Good man! Regards from Blighty :)
Amazing!
Amazing britts...
OK, if Hudson-Smith wins tomorrow, this Championships would have been almost dreamlike for us British fans.
Come on Keely too. So happy for KJT and the long road Kerr's been on (seemingly losing a little of the 'can beat the world' spark he came into the sport with, until he delivered it all tonight).
Amazing 🤩
What an effort
If you look in the face of Ingebritsen, there is not one tiny little bit of relaxed happieness or satisfaction, there is only pure doggedness. He seems to be sad and bitter. Even after the race his facial expression does not calm down in any way...
Is that a strange response to a loss?
@@mic9check Well he's never seemed to be very gracious in defeat, for sure. It's up to the others to congratulate the winner.
@@mic9check for a child no it is not strange, Jakob has shown to be a very selfish spoilt brat....
The man can be upset. These people dedicate their life to the sport.
Projection.
Perfect race pal , fkin hats doffed sir , brilliant 👏
That's a 🥇👌Well done 😁👍
It might not have been wise for Jacob Ingebrigtsen to raise that finger signifying number 1 before the start of the race. It was tempting fate...
Great job Kerr and also Nordas for ending third and bronze metal.
Also wow wunderschöne Wettrennen ❤❤❤❤❤
Hardest part of being at the top is staying there
Outstanding now all we need is a deck of cards.
No one is unbeatable..
Lesson 2 One & All..
Kerr Race Show 2 Aspiring Runners Throughout..
ya Ajabu..
I remember last time out, some bloke was banging on about how Ingebritsen was unbeatable and days later Wightman beat him at the worlds. I wonder if that bloke is still banging on now ?
The runners attitude when the camera tracks past them before the race is hilarious. You would've thought they were in the WWE.
Top job.
Now that’s cool!
I think that last lap was just over 53 seconds something else.
Muy bien García
Well Done Kerr, Well Deserved Win!! He should celebrate his win till Christmas and then get back to work. Next year is going to be brutal! The Europeans and Africans are coming to Paris with a vengeance!
Ingebrigtsen should not be disappointed with his 2nd Place. He's already an Olympic Champion at such a tender age and he's going to be around for a while, I see him taking over the way Bekele and Gebresellasie did in their heyday, and simply running away with the field, and from it in the future.
Excellent Kerr race similar to Wightman's last year. I don't understand the Kenyan athlete who 'pulls' the first lap in 56': tactically playing Ingebrigtsen's game ...
Good lad.
Delighted arrogant ingebollix was beaten after his antics in the semi
Give it a rest. Self belief is not the same as arrogance.
@@joejoejoe4577unfortunately what he did in the semi wasn't self belief it was arrogance
@@markgardiner1742 Here’s what is unfortunate - that they are so many people like you get wound up by a gesture to the crowd. He’s not the first to do it in a race. Ovett did it all the way up the home straight time while demolishing top-class fields and I don’t recall a single rival complaining. They just tried to do better next time.
It’s the petty-minded and grudging observers who moan. Get over it. The sport needs personalities.
And trust me, no one was more thrilled than me that Josh Kerr won.
@@joejoejoe4577 well ovett is one of my sporting heroes and I might be wrong but I doubt he did that in a semi. That is setting you up for as you say people like me to criticise when he comes up short. I'm sure you will agree he thought all he had to do was turn up.
@@markgardiner1742 Perhaps the fact that none of Ingebritzen’s rivals complained or criticised him is a pretty strong signal that it was no big deal in their eyes.
Stunning
One of the most favourite race love it ???yes Josh Kerr
finally a brit from britain
The flying scot, way to go 👀
The 1500 at Olympics with Kerr, Wightman, ingerbritsen, nordas, beamish, kipsang, cheruyot, nuguse is gonna be a real race.
I'm British immigrant how proud 2 years in a row against the best!
Poor comment regarding Coe not winning the world Champs. He could have given a bit of background information ie.They were not even invented until 1983. Prior to that there was a different event called the IAAF World Cup in which Coe did win the 800 metres Gold Medal and Ovett won the 1500 metres.
