Great video and thank you. However I offer one caution to you and all. It is NEVER a good idea working on an item with live circuits and you should have unplugged the refrigerator first. Master Electronics Technician here of 50 years experience.

Top notch explanation in this video and kudos to you.
My 10 year old Samsung refrigerator is still working well in pristine condition experienced the water/ice dispensing issues on and off for the past 2 years. When I contacted two of the 5 star rated reputed service agencies nearby in our zip code, they came and checked within few days. Both of them quoted for $375 and $450 for replacing the entire control board, which I was reluctant to move forward. When I browsed for the root cause of this issue in CZcams, I watched this video and realized my issue is exactly the same as in this video. Immediately I did the repair by myself by buying the switch for $6.99 in Amazon. Imagine the repair agencies quote of $375 and $ 450 compare with the actual replacement part cost $ 6.99. Before going to engage any repair agency, I highly recommend some self-exploration for a solution. Thanks a lot for saving my few hundred $s.

The video let me save a service call or at least a $100. I too needed to replace the screws because of rust. One screw I was able to get out with a screw driver. One I had to cut the head off with a dremel and used vice grips after I got the cover off to remove the screw. Giving the part number helped a lot too. I got two switches from Amazon for $6. If I can only find the second one in 14 years. Thanks for an excellent DIY video.

Excellent & very valuable video! The only one which shows how to remove the front panel on this model design. To anyone watching this, even if your refrigerator is working properly use this video to remove the entire ice dispenser door section. I decided it needed to be cleaned and was concerned we are using ice with no easy way to clean this in the door. OMG! The inside was covered in black mold. I had to take it completely apart to get access to clean everything! Thank you sir for posting this valuable video!

  • @bpccmath251calculusiihitch4

Great video. Thank you for the info. For future reference, unless a switch connects to ground through its body (this one is plastic so it doesn't do that), you don't have to worry about which tabs you put the connectors on. The switch simply opens/closes a circuit so it has no polarity. That said, it is NEVER a bad idea to connect things back the way you found them. Thanks again.

Excellent video! I needed to replace the lever rather than the switch, but this helped immensely! Do note that the black plastic tabs are fragile, so be deliberate as you pull hard to detach the water hose. And, the switch screws were quite rusted, so I added a bit of wd-40. Here's another tip: you can buy the plastic part of the lever for $9, then re-use the stainless cover (saving $20+) -- with a bit of careful persuasion ;-))

I soaked the switch in alcohol and after i was sure it was full i worked the push button a bunch of times then i sling it dry in a paper towel. Its working great.
The little contacts are very small and it usually takes just a tiny dust particle to stop it from working. Theres always a chance the contact is burnt or damaged but its working now. Times on my side.

Thank you for this video! We’ve been slamming the lever for the past 3 years to get any water to come out. My husband was over it and was bout to buy a new fridge just because of the water/ice dispenser!!! Our issue was the switch itself was fine, the nub on the top of the lever which comes in contact with the switch was too short and was not pushing it in far enough to activate the dispenser!!! I cut a small piece of rubber band and glued it on the nub on top of the lever so that it has an easier time reaching the switch! Worked like a charm :) thank you for saving us $3000!!! Really appreciate it!!

So I had a problem with the switch and this video saved me money on a service call. It wouldn't dispense ice, just water. Mine has two levers. Replaced the switch which showed corrosion. But the switch was also hit and miss. Figured out the switch would move up and not allow the tab to hit it. This was the new switch. So I put some cotton on top so the cover would not allow it to move and it worked. Now this is the 3rd time I had to have this done. First 2 times under warranty, this time it wasn't. I kept the previous dispenser because the tech just replaced that, not the switch. I was able to see why the ice would not dispense on the old one. Because the switch moved up. Check that first before spending money on a switch. Now I have spares.

The dispenser on our Samsung fridge is still working but the paddle broke. I can replace it but it looks like a spring fell out. Can you tell me hw to replace the paddle only? Thanks.

I have a different problem. Water won’t stop dispensing. Are there suppose to be two springs on both sides of the paddle? Help please!!

The difficulty of removing the water / icemaker dispenser panel in order to clean the mold from the dispensing path is the most recent aggravation with our Samsung fridge. It has become a battle of wills and the fridge is winning.

I was unable to remove the panel. This fridge is a pretty face with the soul of a demon. Anyway, I used a Waterpik to flush out a significant amount of black detritus, creating only a minor flood in our kitchen. I think immunocompromised individuals should avoid these door mounted water / ice dispensers. They seem to be a breeding ground for microorganisms and are ridiculously difficult to clean.

Thank for this video! My water from my dispenser doesn’t stop, but the ice dispenses and stops fine. Do you think this switch would work? Thanks!!!!

@@jf-sn3yy I also have the same issue. I'm going to try this and let you know.

I removed the screw, but the panel will not budge! My husband couldn't get it to budge either. Any suggestions? I am assuming my issue is probably the switch. I just cannot get the panel to budge! Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙂

It looks very easy but in reality detaching the switch from the fridge is Hell on earth and very difficult to take off
