what????? I thought I was the only one!!! I had the repair guy come out 5 times to try to fix it....It's crazy how this video popped up on my youtube! At least I know I'm not alone now.
Samsung made a new ice maker platform, the part that freezes, and they're installing it for free. We had ours replaced/fixed last year. After that there was no problem.
I, too, am an appliance service tech and know all too well about this problem. Allow me to explain this issue. Samsung decided to place a box that needs to stay below 15°F in order to produce ice cubes inside another box that stays at 33° or warmer...with no gasket or seal of any kind. So, there is a small, but constant leak of warmer air into the colder area, causing condensate and then subsequent freezing of said condensate. This process builds up and becomes a block of ice in your ice box. The only way to keep thos from happening is to use a silicone and apply to the spaces between the box and the wall. Also, during manufacturing Samsung may have pushed your your inlet hose to the ice maker too far in, allowing it to be too close to the inner wall of the spout to the ice maker, acting like a thumb held tight at the end of a hose, and spraying down instead of falling down in an even flow, causing overspray to freeze up and build up around the auger assembly's fan. If every time you go to get ice, a little water pours out...look at the ice room flapper door and be sure it is sealing properly. Room temp air can also leak in to the ice box from there and cause issues. Hope this helps in some way.
sorry but the air leaks are the problem. bad flapper design will not hold water aka air leak no ptrap on icemaker drain line. I laugh at the drain tube heater in the ice room. Not sealing up crack in one of many updates . This same as a bottom freezer bad gasket aka air leak it starts to freeze at the cracks.
Yeah I been saying this to my husband for 3 years now! Samsung was stupid to put the icemaker inside the refrigerator. We are in the process now of thawing the icemaker and taking everything apart. For the 12th time in 3 years

I’m currently going through this issue right now. It’s so frozen that I can’t even get the ice bucket open, and we just bought this refrigerator in 2020..smh
What I have found helps is to turn the ice maker on, let it make ice for a while (a few hours), then turn it off. You can then dispense ice until it runs out. Of course, this isn't convenient, and it's not a great solution. It's just easier than having to defrost it frequently.
Dealing with this exact problem now. Samsung ought to get out of the refrigerator business until they fix their ice-maker issues. They absolutely suck!
There is an air leak in the freezer icemaker that allows this to happen. Manufacturing defect but fixable. That is why they asked them to cut the cords to prevent resale.
I just started having ice maker issues. my fridge is 4 yrs old. There is no ice and the display screen is flashing 14 E and doesnt let me press anything else on the screen. i unplugged several times and nothing doing.
I paid around $4800 with a sale going on, I got a fridge, oven, microwave and dishwasher all in black stainless steel. The fridge is almost 2 years old and i had to run several defrost cycles and pull ice out for almost 2 hours..
@@JbbJake I think the defrost heater sheath is bad. You can buy one at appliancepartspro or some others. But the first has a video to teach you how to replace it. I fixed mine about 2 months ago.
We were fine for 2 years... Now having to defrost our ice maker is a common occurrence... It's recommended that if you aren't using a lot of ice to turn off the ice maker... but it takes a few days before there is enough ice to use... it Doesn't make sense.
I am so glad I found these videos on CZcams. I thought I was the only one. We bought our Samsung refrigerator in February 2021. We have had an issue with the ice maker since we bought it. It does make ice, but the ice melts and clumps together. So we constantly have to keep pulling out the tray and breaking up the ice. This is ridiculous. I thought my paying a little more for a Samsung refrigerator as opposed to buying a cheaper one, we wouldn't have any issues. I am so glad to see that I'm not the only one having this issue and I will be calling Samsung on Monday. 😡
@@SelkirkSoapCo. Yes. They sent a tech that replaced the ice maker completely. He also sealed some areas where air was getting in. That was causing the ice to melt and stick together. Now the only problem is, when I turn the ice maker off, it turns on by itself a few hours later. 🤔
@@SelkirkSoapCo. I called Samsung customer service about 6 months ago, and they sent a repairman to replace the ice-making unit with a fixed version that shouldn’t have this issue anymore. Hello, I am a Appliance repair company owner and we fix this problem all the time. 1st- get Samsung silicone DA81-05595A, 2nd- do the proper defrost of the icemaker section( we use small steam machine, that can be bought on Amazon) . All the ice has to be completely melted and water cleaned. 3rd- apply silicone all around the icemaker box from the outside. You can use the flashlight on the outside and by looking inside the icemaker box it will be visible where warm air is coming in. 4th- if you want to be sure that evrything is 100% sealed you can remove icemaker and icemaker auger motor, it all slides out in couple steps ( there should be video of that) and apply silicone from the inside as well, all around the edges of the icemaker box. 4th step we only have to do in 1 from 5 fridges when amount off ice that is build up is so massive that we know that seal on the outside won't be enough. I hope I helped
Vladimir Cosic thank you, I replaced the ice maker with a newer model, sealed all the edges with silicone and installed the Y clips on the element. It’s better but still had to defrost every few weeks due to the drain freezing up (design flaw). Now I just put tape around the crease where ice drawer meets the housing, and it seems to be better so far.
Samsung has to pay to fix it. It's still under warranty because of these problems. my fridge was 5 years old and they came to replace it--unfortunately, the tech then proceeded to break the rest of the fridge which now doesn't cool--AT ALL. I'm fighting with Samsung to pay for the whole repair since they only want to cover the icemaker.
My family and I laugh bitterly when these new refrigerators can't keep making ice. My parents had some old POS fridge from the 80s, whatever they could afford at the time, probably not much. It made ice reliably for 20 years until it got moved to the garage. If we put a new water line on it and hooked it up, it would likely start churning out ice again. I bought the entire Samsung line of appliances in a package and the ice maker is the only thing that routinely disappoints. They should admit their stupidity and fix it for good.
Join the ongoing lawsuit and "maybe" you might get back some of your money, but I doubt it. We've been in the lawsuit for about 4 years and so far . . . nothing is happening.
oh, just wait Skyler...the back of the fridge where it says "Twin Cooling Plus" will freeze up behind that panel. there's a guy that sells an additional heater on the copper tubing lines, but it shorted out almost immediately after installation. Samsung is garbage. We are going with AMERICAN MADE Whirlpool products. Best of luck to ya!
In my mom's old house (unoccupied for 26 years) there is an old Frigidaire that has been operating without a problem since the mid-1950's !!! That's about 70 years ! Its simple, but it still works !
We had two of these junk refrigerators. the first one lasted a year (with 6 service calls) before Conn's replaced it under extended warranty. The second one lasted six months before it was declared non-repairable and Samsung finally gave us a full refund. Every tech that came out said Samsung was junk. I totally agree!
Those techs obviously have no experience. Almost every appliance built now is made in China. LG and Samsung are made in Korea. LG started using a more energy efficient compressor but they break down more than often. Samsung has had issues with some of their Ice Maker designs, because they could not use the crescent cube heat release ice maker that is standard, China now owns the patent. Samsung has a great track record for little to no sealed system failures. Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchen Aide, Amana, Crosley, Magic Chef all Made in China. GE Appliance Hotpoint, Cafe, Profile, and Monogram sold out to Haier another Chinese company.
@@jmcwatchdog526 I agree. We had an LG fridge a few years ago. After 2 yrs it just stopped cooling, completely. After many service calls (it was under extended warranty) they finally refunded it. We bought a Samsung to replace it and had no problems with it and found it to be a greatly superior machine in all its design and function. HOWEVER, when we moved and had to leave it we then bought another French door Samsung fridge. This one has been a disappointment. It has an interior ice maker that doesn't function well (and it's only 6 weeks old!), the freezer develops crystals, but mainly the interior just seems cheap. Our other one had great interior lighting that allowed you to see well even into the back of the fridge. This one has one light at the top. Period. The other one even had lights in the crispers when you opened them. This one, nada. I am not happy with it. As with many companies they are cheapening their products but still charging out the wazoo for them.
I really, really wish I had searched through CZcams, to discover this problem, before spending lots of money on a very poor designed fridge. We cannot use our ice dispenser anymore so I found some nice old fashioned metal ice trays and get my ice cubes that way. It's simple, reliable and it just plane works! No electronic crap necessary. Many times the old fashion simple designs are far better than the new electronic ones.
@@jmcwatchdog526This has nothing to do with where the machines are made. The bottom line is that icemakers belong in the FREEZER. If you put an icemaker in the Fresh Food compartment, you will have problems. It doesn't matter what brand it is, they all suck. Samsung's suck the most, they've revised it 18 times, and guess what... it still doesn't work! If you want an icemaker with a dispenser, the only way to accomplish that without problems is to get a side-by-side. End of story.

EagleEyeInsp DE I watched a few CZcams videos. I inserted a small nylon cord inside the seal in the door where the ice drops into the door. Just to make the seal a little more "puffy" and press against the ice maker. It seems to help a lot. I've only had to defrost 1 time since this.
Samsung created a ice maker service kit, it's been or for a few months. Includes a new main board, ice maker, drain tube for the auger, and y clips for the cooling loop.
I bought my 4 door in 2017 and thankfully purchased an extended warranty. My problems didn't start until 2019 when an ice dam formed and the machine stopped producing ice cubes. The first time I cleared the dam on my own but when it happened again a couple months later I called on the warranty. The fellow came in and resealed the ice unit and I worked well until early this year when the ice dams became a constant problem. The same repair man came, still on warranty and he told me that this is now a recognized issue and told me that there was a kit he had to order that would swap out parts and hopefully prevent the issue. That was about a month ago so time will tell...
This is the issue mentioned in one of the comments. "there is a small, but constant leak of warm air into the colder area, causing condensate and then subsequent freezing of said condensate." Warm air is getting into the ice box and freezing the moving parts solid. I saw a CZcams video showing a person putting metallic tape alongside the ice box and it fixed the problem.
Just got off the phone with them and they don’t want to cover the cost to fix this problem. Why is it not a recal for this. Unreal. This not a cheap fridge. Wow.
Samsung has come up with a fix! We dealt with an ice maker that constantly froze over and needed defrosting for 4 years. Many service calls later, Samsung shipped all the parts for the new ice maker, including the modification that prevents freeze over. The repair tech came about a week later. We have had ice for the past 8 weeks with no freeze over or dripping water from the ice maker. Recommend calling Samsung and insisting they send the free repair kit and the services of a tech at no cost to you.
My Samsung frig worked fine for the first year or so before the icemaker started freezing up and jamming like this. I used some silicone sealant to seal up the icemaker box but even with that, I still had to manually defrost the thing with a hair dryer every couple of weeks. Finally, after only about 5 years of total use, the compressor took a dump last week. I just decided to replace it with another brand of frig. Surprisingly, my 11 year old LG beer frig out in the garage with its failure prone linear compressor still runs great and I've never had a problem with it.

Appliance technician here: I absolutely hated getting this calls at my old company. The first fix Samsung had us do was in install these metal "Y" clips on the evap/heater coil, replace the plastic seal, and to pull back the water line 1cm. It also never worked. The second fix was far more drastic involving replacing the ice maker, sealing the rear of the compartment, and even replacing the control board. This barely worked either. Sure enough within weeks or months I'd get a callback and then I had to head back and try another desperate fix. It was bad enough doing it within the warranty, it as even worse when it was COD. Now that I run my own company I take the time to present the fixes to my customers but I make it very clear they have high failure rates. It's never a good situation for any customer to be in. Some opt for the first fix since it's much cheaper. They're so desperate they'll try anything even if it's a gamble. No one ever pays for the second fix which runs into the hundreds of dollars. These days once I get the call I let them know that their best bet is to use a steamer every couple of months. You can get one from Amazon for $30. Don't use a blowdryer since it can burn, melt, or deform the plastic. Or better yet stay away from Samsung.
@@JohnCBrown-me8gj Most brands are the same in that they're all made with short lifespans. That being said your best best is staying away from any fridge with digital controls. Computer control boards are very expensive to repair. The best fridges are controlled via mechanical timers. Simple, cheap to replace, and much more reliable. Technicians love these types of fridges since they're synonymous with easy work. Takes 15min to diagnose. The complicated digital ones that have multiple evaporators, sensors, and multiple control boards are a nightmare to diagnose since there's so much to check. We often know what's wrong in the first few min - we spend the rest of the hour or two checking everything else to make sure. If you really want an ice maker don't get any door-mounted ones. They're inherently complicated machines. In some cases it's essentially a mini-freezer inside a fridge, plus a complicated feeding mechanism. The water and ice dispenser in the door have their own issues, too. The water line, power and control cables must be fed through the hinge. Get an ice maker that's inside the freezer section and drops into a bucket. This way it already takes advantage of the fact that it's already in the freezer. No elaborate feeding mechanism. The biggest tip I can give you is that you're not paying for better, you're paying for more. When you take away all the fancy stainless steel, digital screens, fancy features....the core components are the same. The same compressor, the same evaporator fan, the same cheap shelves, etc. Go with simple, analog, and you really don't need all those fancy features. Ever ride an 18 speed bike? Do you actually use all 18 gears or do you just use a low, medium, and high gear? You won't believe how many angry customers I've had who bought $4000 Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, etc fridges and were so angry they had yet another service call within a few months or a year. One guy was who angry he wanted to load the fridge onto his pickup and dump it in front of Best Buy. Best of luck, and remember the salespeople aren't technicians and are just fed handouts from the manufacturers with talking points.
@@Babuiski That was a well written post. Thank you. My question to you is, with the way these appliances are now a days what do you think to be the average lifespan? I am going on 6 years and the icemaker is unusable now and the fan towards the back of the fridge on the inside is hitting ice that has built up on some coils. A full 24 hour defrost will temporarily fix the issue but it comes back later, sometimes a few weeks or a month later. Is it better to TRY to get the fix(es) done or just spend the money on a mid range fridge?
we have had never ending problems with our Samsung Refrigerator. The ice maker has the same problem, and we have just given up using it, and we have water that collects under the deli drawer because the cooling coils inside of the fridge freezes up causing the cooling fan to hit ice buildup, and make a loud irritating noise at all hours night and day, as well as the drain freezes up where the defrosted ice is supposed to melt and drain down to a collection pan. Samsung knows that this is a major problem with their fridges, and instead of fixing it, they will sell you a kit to supposedly remedy the problem, However The Kit Does Not Work !
Not just Florida in Texas my Samsung ice maker has to be cleaned out monthly since the day we bought it. We also had a repairman replace the unit under warranty but he told us it wouldn’t help. We won’t buy another Samsung refrigerator.
Mine was fixed permanently by Samsung. The part that makes the cubes was replaced along with the electronics inside the ice box and the refrigerators mother board in the back of the refrigerator. In addition, insulation that looked like calk in tube was inserted into the entire housing of the ice box. This seemed to resolve the problem of ice melting and refreezing as a result of an ice maker being installed inside of a refrigerator. So basicly, you have to be lucky enough to get a repairman who knows what needs to be done to resolve this problem permnaently. Why Samsung is not able to resolve this for all existing customers and all new unsold units is beyond me.
Samsung fixed mine too. Completely replacing the ice maker unit and replacing the main motherboard for free three years out of warranty. Now it's the best fridge I've ever owned.
It’s a design flaw. I have a 4 door Samsung refrigerator that had the same problem. My husband was able to fix it and hasn’t had a problem since. The flaw is the weight of the ice maker rests against the styrofoam insulation in the back of the refrigerator causing the ice maker to hang in the back. There are no screws or anything holding up the back of the ice maker which causes the ice tray to slant. The slant causes an overflow of water in the ice tray. As water escapes the ice tray, the temperature is constantly refreezing the water that escaped from the ice tray causing the ice buildup. My husband bought the updated replacement computer board and ice maker kit. In order to completely stop the ice buildup problem, my husband put a piece of expanding weather stripping under the back of the ice maker to help hold it up. He also caulked the inside and outside of the ice maker compartment. My husband fixed it over a year ago and we have not had any problems with it since then. This could easily be fixed if Samsung would redesign the ice maker so that it’s not resting on the insulation.

Vladimir Cosic Those are good tips but they won’t stop the problem. I’ve had 3 separate repair company’s check my ice maker. They did the silicone inside and out. 1 month later the ice builds up inside again. It’s a Samsung defect with their ice makers and they all should be recalled.
I bought mine about 4 yrs ago and have never had a problem with the ice maker till today. Was clogged so I opened it up and cleaned out the ice. There was hardly any buildup inside so was a pretty easy fix. Now I'm hoping this doesn't become a recurring issue. I'm in Canada so not sure if the design is different here?

Same here. Had it repaired once and the warranty ran out and it started freezing up again in the back. I did find a video about Forced (manual) Defrost mode on a Samsung Refrigerator and that did help. We then put the Samsung refrigerator into the garage so we can use it to store oil and coffee beans to make good use of the insulation since we spent so much money on it. Even now whenever I heard the brand Samsung refrigerator, I feel so nauseated because of the stress that we have to endure during the break down.
Same issue here with Samsung ice maker, I use to defrost it every month but gave up cause it freezes back up in 3 weeks time. I won't buy a Samsung fridge again
We also have the issue with the Ice Maker also it is impossible the clean the last glass shelf on the bottom, Samsung made a 3 peace drawer all in one part no way to remove the glass to clean it. Now we also have a new issue the fridge started to smell bad even though it is clean. We never had an issue with our Sears model. What can we do?

The refund process is a 3 month ordeal. I spent 8 hours on the phone with Samsung and sent multiple emails. Eventually I received the refund. I will never buy ANYTHING from Samsung again. The entire process was a nightmare.
I have been dealing with this issue for four to five years now. I had no idea it was a larger problem. I actually have not been able to get the ice compartment out for over a month now, because it is so frozen and I am not defrosting my whole fridge for it.
I just found this video after trying to figure out why my ice-maker wasn't working. We bought our Samsung 3 years ago and had no issues until now. Odd, but at least I see we are not alone and I can contact Samsung.

Our top-of-the-line 5-door Samsung refrigerator has been fixed eight times. Each time, the ice making unit had to be either repaired or replaced. Nothing worked. We bought our fridge from Lowe’s, whose service department was first rate. However, numerous local repair services (We pretty much met them all) have told us that Samsung is a terrible company to work with, and that they do not honor their warranties. Additional problems: shelves and shelving brackets break easily, and are very expensive to replace; user manual has many errors. My family, my extended family, and my neighbors in Massachusetts will never buy another Samsung kitchen appliance of any sort.
Yeah our side bins have broken and needed to be replaced 2 years into having our Samsung. But we had a whirlpool before and had a freezer go completing toast. Having the same problem. Having to chip ice and thaw ice with a hair dryer about every three weeks. Very frustrating! If I leave out the tray, I get lots of ice and have to remove it twice a day or it freezes into a clump of cubes. Ugh!
not to be rude, but was the ice maker accidently turned off? I don't use the ice maker but my spouse did and she finally complained lol, always the first question, is it plugged in? LOL
We have a 2012 3 door frig does same thing freezes up cant get ice bin out of seems it is out of warrranty from sears how do u get in on class action law suit? seems it age we turned ice maker off sure it needs updates installed.
Lol!!! We have the same problem with the ice-maker in our Samsung fridge and after repeatedly going thru the process of blow-drying & using a knife to break off the ice, we have turned off the ice-maker and now make our ice the old-fashioned way with trays! We will NEVER buy another Samsung refrigerator!!!
As of 6/2019 there is a repair kit that fixes the problem, its based on model serial and revision number. The kit includes new ice maker, new auger drain assembly , upgraded main board and the ice bins get replaced as well. If the kit is installed correctly It wilt solve the issue.
hi, just wondering if you can give me more details info on the repair kit (how much and where to get it). We been defrosting with a hair dryer about every two months. Thank you.
Per another video I watched, the guy recommended the steam because it doesn't get as hot as the air from the air dryer which could damage parts inside the ice maker. Then, you'll have more problems. See Ben's Appliances and Junk on CZcams. "Samsung Ice Maker Not Working-How to Repair and Replace EVERYTHING."
Our ice maker doesn't work have to buy bags of ice!!! During the covid i invested in a small size and put in our garage i got it cheaper without the ice maker but i have ice trays and i luv them ,,but still having a 3,000.00 fridge and not to make ice and it freezes up!!!
I repair all brands of refrigerators and we have been battling with this exact problem on the same Samsung's for almost a year now, despite fitting the Samsung recommended modification kit and replacing most of the ice maker seals, it still ices up every few months. Very frustrating 😕
I have the other issue that the drain freezes. Did the repair of changing the small part that warms the drain, but still froze. Yep, Samsung is a piece of crap.
one person attached a bare copper wire to the freezer evaporator heater to prevent frosting the drain line/hose. you need to open the freezer evaporator cover to do it though.
Yea. I had the big sheet of ice under the drawers. Had to get a big syringe and run hot water thru the drain until it unclogged completely the frozen drain until I heard the flow of water drain into the pan both times I did the fix. I have adjusted the temperature to not be to low also. Hopefully that will work.
Had Geek Squad out 5 times, never resolved. They put sealant where light gap was, the replaced the inferior defrost fan, they replaced the entire ice maker then they re replaced just the bin, changed temp of entire frig, said it should be 37 on fridge and -2 on freezer....Still defrosting once a week.......
Been having same issues with our ice maker it keeps freezing up been doing this for about 2yrs. It freezes all around the ice maker and makes no ice!!!
We have this issue in Australia. We had Bern advised to steam or use a heat appliance to it when ringing up when in warranty. Unfortunately melted the box outside. Now they ate trying to fix it. They knew along this is an issue and now product care is calling trying to say there ain't no parts to fix it or they can't tell us what the technician has told samsung because it probably a policy. What absolute rubbish. Never again will buy anything samsung.
what????? I thought I was the only one!!! I had the repair guy come out 5 times to try to fix it....It's crazy how this video popped up on my youtube! At least I know I'm not alone now.
Just popped up on my feed too. I have the same issue with ice maker freezing over every couple weeks. So annoying
Same problems since 2009, ice problems and the water tank freezing on mine, again new fridge in 2009.
@SAMUEL JESSE it is a Samsung failure, JUNK it & move on like I had to do.
@@lifeisbutadream9369 paid to much money to junk it. The problem need to be resolved.
Yup hate workin on samsung fridges lol.
Yeah I been saying this to my husband for 3 years now! Samsung was stupid to put the icemaker inside the refrigerator. We are in the process now of thawing the icemaker and taking everything apart. For the 12th time in 3 years

What I have found helps is to turn the ice maker on, let it make ice for a while (a few hours), then turn it off. You can then dispense ice until it runs out. Of course, this isn't convenient, and it's not a great solution. It's just easier than having to defrost it frequently.

1st- get Samsung silicone DA81-05595A,
2nd- do the proper defrost of the icemaker section( we use small steam machine, that can be bought on Amazon) .
I have the same problem!!!! Ice everywhere inside my fridge BEHIND the plastic covering!
I know what’s wrong and can fix it
@@billkendrick9465 What’s wrong and how would you fix it?
Can you tell me what the steps are to join the lawsuit?
oh, just wait Skyler...the back of the fridge where it says "Twin Cooling Plus" will freeze up behind that panel. there's a guy that sells an additional heater on the copper tubing lines, but it shorted out almost immediately after installation.
As with many companies they are cheapening their products but still charging out the wazoo for them.
ice make is lol

I watched a few CZcams videos.
"there is a small, but constant leak of warm air into the colder area, causing condensate and then subsequent freezing of said condensate."
Warm air is getting into the ice box and freezing the moving parts solid. I saw a CZcams video showing a person putting metallic tape alongside the ice box and it fixed the problem.

Appliance technician here:
I absolutely hated getting this calls at my old company.
Or better yet stay away from Samsung.
you seem like the right guy to ask what brand refrigerator that you would suggest?
@@JohnCBrown-me8gj Good question John. Hope he answers you.
A full 24 hour defrost will temporarily fix the issue but it comes back later, sometimes a few weeks or a month later.

we have had never ending problems with our Samsung Refrigerator.
I wish your husband had done a video on the fix for us to see it.
Well thanks for that bit of information. I'm going to give that a try with ours, we're sick of defrosting weekly!

1st- get Samsung silicone DA81-05595A,
2nd- do the proper defrost of the icemaker section( we use small steam machine, that can be bought on Amazon) .
Vladimir Cosic Those are good tips but they won’t stop the problem. I’ve had 3 separate repair company’s check my ice maker. They did the silicone inside and out. 1 month later the ice builds up inside again. It’s a Samsung defect with their ice makers and they all should be recalled.

I was able to fix my Samsung refrigerator PROBLEMS.
I got a new refrigerator and it’s NOT A SAMSUNG👍
Geo Man lol I’m gonna be fixing mine the same way my man!
Samsung needs to just stick to phones
I been having this problem on both my Samsung refrigerators . How do I get info to join the lawsuit. I live in texas
Me too... over a year with this issue... unable to fix it...I can't afford it...the noise is crazy during covid-19 online classes it was embarrassing
They are programmable and have a method to defrost itself. It's on you tube.

I have same issue on my ice machine, I even did a replacement of all the parts and it never fixed it.
I’ll never buy Samsung again, either.
Calm your tits, It doesn't happen with every model.
Same here, been dealing with this for over 3 years.
As for my fridge, I had problems with the icemaker flap opening and closing constantly by itself. It is driving my parents crazy and we didn't know what is wrong with it.
We're dealing with this problem right now! We couldn't get the bucket out and by the time we got the fridge low enough on food to let it melt, the ice has snapped off a clip holding that piece on the top just below the coil. What a pain in the......
I have been dealing with this for 3 years. There should be a recall.
Same with us
Same here.
Takes me back to the old days when companies advertised the 'frost free refrigerator'. I never thought that ice-maker's would have the same problem. I haven't heard of any other brand experiencing this problem.
Yep! Same here! I’m having to do a forced defrost at lest once every a week or so. It’s so frustrating and I’m without ice. Guess it’s still not fixed!
We have the exact same problem!! So frustrating that Samsung won’t stand behind their product by recalling these.
Have a samsung french door model started freezing up a year after we bought it .Never again .
Same here. Had it repaired once and the warranty ran out and it started freezing up again in the back. I did find a video about Forced (manual) Defrost mode on a Samsung Refrigerator and that did help. Otherwise we took out all the perishables and turned off the power breaker for 24 hours to defrost it. A real pain. Never again.
Yup. Mine also lasted about a year. Spent one full year trying to get it fixed and it has been pure decoration since.
My washer was also junk.
Raise the front of the fridge up.
Eric Hargrove by how much? i raised mine up it still been freezing
As an appliance repair man. I recommend anything but Samsung or LG.
Kenmore Elite is Samsung in disguise just so you know.
So what do you recommend???
If I had make a recommendation it would be mid range Frigidaire.
@@misterindependent7994 Thank You.
Also repair man. Have samsung fridge. New ice maker PC board and heated drain tube. Samsung provides concession for all parts. Frigidaire needed air handler. Ge had freezing line in door. All brands have issues.
Mine died 13 months after we bought it just when there is no more warranty left to request for any sort of service calls. So frustrated, but didn't want to throw more money into the trash, so we went and bought a new whirlpool and it hasn't given us any problems since for more than 4 years. We then put the Samsung refrigerator into the garage so we can use it to store oil and coffee beans to make good use of the insulation since we spent so much money on it. Even now whenever I heard the brand Samsung refrigerator, I feel so nauseated because of the stress that we have to endure during the break down.
Was there ever a claims link for this issue? We've been fighting ours for a couple years now as well and just caught wind of the class-action suit.
Mine has been repaired 3 times in 3 years. The repair guy said its a Terrible design that can't be fixed.
Same issue here with Samsung ice maker, I use to defrost it every month but gave up cause it freezes back up in 3 weeks time. I won't buy a Samsung fridge again
How do you defrost it? I haven’t figured out how to turn off the freezingb
@@jenpw1525 I would use a blow dryer on low heat setting while placing towel to catch the ice and water after melting
Freezer and ice making not working. I have an ice blockage in the venting system.
Any helpful tips?
We also have the issue with the Ice Maker also it is impossible the clean the last glass shelf on the bottom, Samsung made a 3 peace drawer all in one part no way to remove the glass to clean it. Now we also have a new issue the fridge started to smell bad even though it is clean. We never had an issue with our Sears model. What can we do?
Class action lawsuit the only one that wins is the lawyer. Samsung refig are just plain junk.
i participated to samsung class action suit. samsung settled, but i didn't get any money. only the lawyers get the money.
Samsung refridgerator sucks! My defrost system in the evaporator failed. I replaced with a 80 buck heater and 4 hour labor. It seems working fine but the temperature and other controls dead! Never again!!!
@@jungapo2 how you do that?
maydafierro i found the lawsuit on the internet and then i filled up the form provided by the law office. google it if there is outstanding class action lawsuit against samsung refrigerator.
ALL Sansung appliances are junk. Will never ever ever ever buy again
I had a different Samsung refrigerator and had another issue. It turned out my neighbor had the same model and had the same problem. Samsung refrigerators suck!
Has this issue been fixed on models release in 2020 onwards?
The refund process is a 3 month ordeal. I spent 8 hours on the phone with Samsung and sent multiple emails. Eventually I received the refund. I will never buy ANYTHING from Samsung again. The entire process was a nightmare.
Did they refund the full amount?
@@angelderden9102 my fridge was several years old, so I was refunded a lesser amount based on depreciation. About $700
Same problem in Pensacola. Just had the hair dryer out again yesterday. Am done with Samsung.
My icemaker didn't freeze over like the others it just quite working, I replaced the filter and it made some ice then quit, I have tried the reset button that also didn't help, what do I try next? I have only had the frig for a year and a half. I'm very disappointed.
Yep, I have the same issue too. They replaced it once already and after about a year same old thing again.
Remember when we manufactured appliances in the United States?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Does not apply anymore, i'v got a new 2018 Toyota Camry made in US, i'd rather had a used 10 y.o. Japan one, would last more...

DesertDigger1 - ....and a $400 fridge would last for 40 years!
They are called SubZero. We still do but you are all too cheap to buy quality.
I wish I see this before getting one about a year ago. I run into the same issue with Samsung Fridge as mentioned in this video.
I have this problem too, thanks for your information
Wow! I have the same issue. I scheduled repair service a couple of days ago. They said they will cover the parts and labor even though it is no longer under warranty. Now I know why.
I came across this video as I'm dealing with this problem. It's November 2020 and I can't believe Samsung still hasn't owned up the problem.
I fixed mine! All it took was a different tray warmer resistor that loosens the cubes. I just changed the resistor value to the warmer so cubes don't get stuck and it pushes more water for next cube cycle. So now it warms tray better and ejects cubes and then goes to next cycle.
Thats not what causes the frost build up. There is an OEM repair for this now thats effective.
Well it fixed mine has never frosted up once since
Can you provide more information on the modifications you made? I would be most appreciative!
So what's the brand that you guys would recommend?
I HAD a Samsung French door refrigerator and it sucked. What a terrible appliance.
Why did it sucked thank uou
USA EAGLE7 what an amazing contribution to the conversation.
Everyone always goes for the new of the new with all the bell's. I buy the cheap ones and get 7 to 10 years out of them and pay way less then most people. Old school is better.
Problem is you can't find a large one without a lot of extras. I wanted one without water or ice dispenser... impossible for decent size fridge.
@Sgt Pepper yes 7 to 10 years But they set in my shop and deals with temps anywhere from 19 degrees to 115 degrees I think 7 to 10 years isn't bad at all. Now the one in the house is about 22 years old it's an old GE.
@@Cockeyed_Den8213 the problem isn't all the bells and whistles. It's the I've machines on ever unit that says ice master. They redid then for 19 call them ice Max now and I have 0 customer complaints. With the old ones omg it was 5-6 a week. I refused to sell Samsung until the new ones came in with the new Ice machines.
It’s the same with most appliances. Internet connectivity on my refrigerator? Hell no! Look at the washing machines. All this fancy electronic BS for washing clothes?. Ultimately it breaks and is impossible to repair or incredibly expensive. Just keep it simple like old school washing machines. Turn it on - agitator turns, clothes get washed, rinse, spin and done. Repairs are so much easier and cheaper. Not rocket science. It’s all about sucking more money out of the consumer is all it is
It's true what they say. They aren't built like they used to.
It’s odd. We’ve had our Samsung fridge for 6 years now, and it’s only been giving us this issue within the last 6-8 months.
i live in nova scotia canada, bought a samsung, because my previous fridge was a samsung and it lasted 14 years. went to a dealer that i respected, day 2 i noticed the space between the freezer and fridge door was blowing out cold air and the fridge door, how do i say this was very frigid, called the dealer every other day saying it is a new fridge and i want to return it, got the runaround for a month. they told me that i had to deal with samsung. if i ran a business i would not carry their products at all, and i will never deal with this dealership, which i respected ever again!
Washers and dryers too. Some companies should just stick to phones
Seriously, their washers are horrible. Broke down so many times. All that high efficiency water usage is nonsense. All those water savings goes out the window when you pay the repair cost of pump, motors, valve, etc. Now I own a top loading white boring machine, basic, no frills, no problem!
my fridge is also having the same problems in california. Thank you for the news report!
I had a freeze up in the top ice maker and took everything out of refrigerator and freezer and unplugged from outlet and it defrosted for 8 hours, now its been 24 hours since plugging it up and doesn"t seem to want to cool, freezer is on 0 and refrigerator does not get below 50. anyone have any suggestions. i do not have the manuel
Does anyone know if they agree to fix do you have to empty everything out of the freezer and fridge during and 24hrs after the repair ?
I just think in all nothing is made to last anymore. My dear grandmother had a refrigerator she bought in 1950s and was still working in 2010 when she sold the house.
I’ve also been having this issues for many years now!!
I have a Samsung model that the freezer handles keeps falling off (GE recalled theirs with the same problem) and the vegetable drawer bottom flooding and freezing.
Mine ices over and I have to use a hair dryer to defrost it!

Ive been on the phone for hours /days with Samsung going round and round about the twin cooling system that is iced over as well as my ice maker that I have to de-ice every couple of weeks to keep the ice able to flow through. This is crazy as my French 4-door refrigerator is not even 6 years old!
Did Samsung ever resolve this issue for you?
I’m seeing this 4 years later and still having the same thing
Having the same problem. Having to chip ice and thaw ice with a hair dryer about every three weeks. Very frustrating!
If I leave out the tray, I get lots of ice and have to remove it twice a day or it freezes into a clump of cubes. Ugh!

We have a 2012 3 door frig does same thing freezes up cant get ice bin out of seems it is out of warrranty from sears how do u get in on class action law suit? seems it age we turned ice maker off sure it needs updates installed.
I have that same samsung refrigerator too and I have this exact same problem. I just started making my own ice

We will NEVER buy another Samsung refrigerator!!!
Cheryl Luzinski I also bought a Samsung wine cooler at same time as fridge and it stopped working after a year.
Me too
Doing the same thing and they don’t even have the replacement parts for them anymore.
Repair requires Installing Y clip kit on Ice maker and silicone the inside of the ice maker housing.
Thank you.
Odd idea to use the STEAM mop to defrost the ice maker. I've been using my wife's hair dryer -- i.e. dry air!
Ooof!!!
agree - dry air only seems logical!
How do I get on the class action?
You might get 20.00 or less out of any class acción,.... Attorney's are the only ones that get big money,.... good luck
And I thought that I was the only one 🤦🏻♂️. What a piece of crap refrigerator
Nope. Everyone I know has to use a blow dryer on their freezer every few weeks. Such a pain in the butt.
Nope me too
Our ice maker doesn't work have to buy bags of ice!!! During the covid i invested in a small size and put in our garage i got it cheaper without the ice maker but i have ice trays and i luv them ,,but still having a 3,000.00 fridge and not to make ice and it freezes up!!!
Small Size different brand also!!i will never ever buy a samsung product!
I repair all brands of refrigerators and we have been battling with this exact problem on the same Samsung's for almost a year now, despite fitting the Samsung recommended modification kit and replacing most of the ice maker seals, it still ices up every few months. Very frustrating 😕
Where do you seal ?
We have had the same problem with this unit? Had them come out and make temporary repairs and it still is having problems
I have the other issue that the drain freezes. Did the repair of changing the small part that warms the drain, but still froze. Yep, Samsung is a piece of crap.

Same problem, it stops up and drips all over the floor

Oh and you get a big giant sheet of ice underneath the vegetable drawers
one person attached a bare copper wire to the freezer evaporator heater to prevent frosting the drain line/hose. you need to open the freezer evaporator cover to do it though.
I have the same issue!
