    Most engines have metal dowel pins to help align or hold parts together, but they can be hard to remove. This video shows how to remove them from an engine or any other piece of equipment. Thanks for watching.

    Just wanted to say, I finally pulled the trigger on going to school to be a diesel tech. because of watching your videos.
    Thanks for posting these. You help a lot of guys out doing this.

      Oh it’s great, learned a lot and you’re guaranteed a job knowing a trade. Funny thing is I ended up getting a job at a university, mostly sitting at a desk. It pays about the same as a diesel tech in my area would make, but easier on the body.
      Everyone that went to school with me and finished the program has more money now then they previously did. I would highly recommend it if you find it interesting. Don’t let people say it’s a dying career because of electric vehicles, it’s not.

    I started on Cat engines in the early 80's worked on the very subject as this. Excellent video, I used snappy puller, yours works better. Work as a Caterpillar technical instructor now. This works on everything even C175 and 3500s. Moly lube like on head bolts the days of 3406 head gasket problem stuff works on pullers also. Good job!!

    Nice too, we had the slide hammer type at a Cummins dealership I worked at several yr's ago and it was much quicker, like about a minute to pop all 6 from the block. Didn't have to pull em to cut counter bores but it was much easier to clean up the block surface with them out.

    Nice one, still have the old slide hammer type. What type counter bore cutter do you use, we had a big Kent-Moore that didn't have graduated depth control, used feeler gauges, then got a new Monico tools type, much nicer to use. has Cat spec has changed for when to cut the block.

    Its a long and complicated procedure just to remove pins! What if it was an outback location with limited tools?
    I would first tap the pin just like you did, then place an ice cube on the pin to contract it and then quickly wrap the pin with cloth or paper pull it out with grip pliers.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  Před 6 lety

      +John Smith That is too good of an idea. I guess the hard part would be to tell if the dowel is moving or the collar. I guess you could use a paint pen to mark it.

    Adept Ape. What do you think about the 6TS motors. Is that just a different variant of the 3406?

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  Před 6 lety

      +Dillon Griggs I believe, although I'm currently sick and my brain is half working, that a 6TS is a C-16, which usually make about 600 HP. Most of the normal C15 parts will work, other than the cylinder packs.

    • @dillongriggs4564
      @dillongriggs4564 Před 6 lety

      Adept Ape thanks for the info man. I don’t think it’s a c-16 tho you know more than me but We just got a new 6TS at work it’s a 475 and I really like the truck it pulls great those are the first letters of the serial number on the motor. It’s in a 1998 w900 just got a fresh rebuild. Hey man sry your sick tho hope you feel better and keep up the videos!!! Great videos really informant and can learn a lot from you!! I appreciate that always. Thanks man!!!

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  Před 6 lety +1

      My brain is now back to operating normally (whatever that means). The 7CZ is the C16, not the 6TS. The 6TS is a normal, good old 3406E.
