I blindly went into Influencer and I really enjoyed it! Really refreshing take on the influencer horror genre. Also, during that kill scene you mentioned, my cat was watching it with me and I covered my eyes and hers when it happened lmao.

Before influencers, I think that "reality stars" (i.e. Survivor, Big Brother, etc.) were a popular target for horror filmmakers in the 2000's. Usually the more narcissistic, the more we wanted to see these characters killed off. I think it's probably a safe bet to jump from "narcissistic reality person" to "narcissistic influencer" as annoying victims.

Great review! My favourite horror influencer character was the orange hat guy from All Of Us Are Dead. He wasn't the main focus of the show but he was pretty funny.
I enjoy horror generally because it tells me so much about people. Thank you for this. Therefore I will tell you that Gromit is sometimes my favourite moment when you do come watch with me... (I have a cat who waits by the door when I leave and is still there when I come home)
Last time I had influencer I was doubled up with a bad cough and it left me with distended ear drums. Very scary.
Wait.. Isn't this movie based on an ARG? I recall there was one with the exact same plot. An influencer that slowly, started changing the way she talked and such..

I just finished the movie and I enjoyed it for what it was! I didn’t watch the trailer and went in blind, which I think is the best way to watch it. Also I would recommend this as a movie to watch with a friend or partner who doesn’t like scary films since this is a more of a thriller :)

Or to be confused with, "Influencer (2022)" that pops up on Tubi. Cause I googled watch Influencer 2022 and clicked without watching trailer or reading description. & I literally watched like an hour & was thinking, "Huh, when's the horror or suspense gonna come in? This can't be the right movie. "
Sure enough, I clicked back on your video and started watching it and noticed right away it wasn't the same one. I found the right one on Shudder. So whoopsie! Lol now I'm gonna go watch the correct one 😅

It s a brilliant realistically well crafted thriller .Can show the downsides of social media and the dangers of influencers or travel vloggers who travel alone to post and gain money and attention .Shows u shld nt hangout with strangers alone while being alone in a foreign destination.Was a great thriller to watch .

had a spooky moment this morning, sometimes i disable my internet adapter for performance reasons, no wifi or bluetooth just an ethernet cable yet somehow when i got up this morning microsoft had still managed to install one of those pesky updates i know that i can preload things but that didn't seem to be the case, very strange indeed and had me asking some questions about my privacy.

I think Spree , Dashcam, and Deadstream are my favorites of the genre that ive seen so far.
Just saw Influencer and it was okay. I won't mention spoilers, but the twisted plot did remind me of a 1990's thriller. Thailand made for a beautiful setting too and the camerawork showed it. Overall, I'd give it a score of 5/10.

As far as dark movies like this i have 2 favorites Sissy loved that movie especially how she really lived in her house when she wasnt on camera. Deeply disturbing. Then i just saw The Host loved it wow! Have to see it again for sure il see many things i missed the 1st time around. Il probably see Sissy again to just because i loved it so much.

Enjoyed it overall but it left me wanting more as well, especially the ending, wish it had gotten a proper conclusion if you know what I mean
I hated the ending. The way CW acted when she got to the island was not in line with how her character was previously established.
It was well made, more a drama / thriller than horror. Enjoyable but didn’t really deep dive the psychology.

I find these influencers narcissistic, self indulgent & so annoying that imo it makes for the perfect horror flick. There's no protagonist to root for.
I can recommend the movie Malum. It's a remake / remaining of Last Shift.

You can't really spoil this movie. I can easily predict which two people were going to die, even when one of them had not yet arrived in Thailand. I also knew one character left to die at the beginning must eventually come back by the end of the movie.

I wish they took the first act and ran with it. They tried injecting too much plot into the film. I wouldn't mind spending more time turning CW into a serial influencer killer and it sucks because we almost had that until they brought Ryan into it.
Noticed the movie randomly scrolling and immediately watched it without checking the trailer (the imbd reviews were bad though) and I liked it! The soundtrack was awesome and its on spotiy thank god❤️ I absolutely loved Sissy too but the favourite influencer horror scene would be the bus scene from Texas chainsaw massacre 😂
Just watched and then went to read/watch reviews. I was surprised at the high ratings tbh. I'm more aligned with your 6, probably even a 5 tbh. It was fairly predictable. Guessed the ending early on. Still have questions tho. All in all, felt pretty "meh" about it.

I like the movie for what it was but I want to know what made c.w. so mad influencers also would she really return to the scene of the crime so to speak no need to go back to that Island
Review is spot on. Good setup and story but no explanation of character motivations and poor ending. No comeuppance for this psycho serial killer girl who just smiles left on the island. Was hoping for a mystery horror like Barbarian but this fell far short of the mark. Still good scenery of Thailand and decent acting for a small budget film but the script needs work especially the ending. 6/10 is about right and thank you for giving a rating. So many reviewers shy away from giving a score or rating but that's the best part of a review IMO.
Is it finally a horror movies that scares or not? Hope…

Just watched Influencer and I really enjoyed it. Not quite a horror, yet a horrifying idea. Deadstream is scarier and more horrific (and funny) only Influencer is definitely worth a watch. Thanks for the review and recommendation.

I think there's a difference between being an "influencer" in the lifestyle sense, like the characters that these horror movies focus on and what Emma does. I'd say you are a movie reviewer or critic, but you aren't exclusively taking us on extravagant trips and doing daily vlogs about your life.
I would consider you an ‘Influencer’, but certainly a different type than travel or lifestyle influencers.
Watched it last evening. This film is twisty and twisted. Assume nothing about all the characters, and hope to hell that CW is not a strong swimmer.
I value social media but I loathe influencer culture. I thought it was handled quite well here. And apparently it’s become a new sub-genre of horror. And that’s ok. Maybe that’s good! It’s a vast sandbox to explore. I liked Influencer. Pretty clever, pretty fun.
After THAT kill I thought this thing was gonna really take off! Alas. But I still liked the ending quite a bit.
Don’t forget about SuperHost (2021), that’s another great influencer horror
SuperHost is my favorite of the influencer genre. The lead is fantastic, she makes the film.

Ngl, I found myself rooting against the influencer the entire movie. Maybe I’m old school as a millennial, but come on they are so cringe.
I think a couple reasons influencer horror is so popular given its' young age is 1. influencers themself are so ubiquitous at this point in time and 2. the movies reflect a deep seated anxiety many of us have about how much (forgive the pun) influence they have over many of our lives.

I watched 2 movies last night. Influencer and marionette. Marionette was the better film.
If hotel safes were a thing (they are) and influencers had a brain (surprisingly, they do) , the screenwriter wouldn't have been able to write this movie - 4.5/10 for me
5/10.. I found the story interesting, but it could have been better executed.
At the risk of sounding like I'm some cruel person, I confess that I find it satisfying to watch these movies just to see the influencer's fake perfect life fall apart.
