    Hi Matt - I can't wait to see a comparison between the new SL 28mm and the various Leica 28mm lenses you have. With the gear you have you are uniquely positioned to do so and this would be extremely valuable to many of your followers including yours truly.

    How does this series perform for video? Do they exhibit focus breathing when changing focus points? Does the aperture jump between values or smoothly shift when in something like S mode when the environments light changes?

    Math never disappoints. Great review. Just picked up the SL APO 35 and 75. Thinking of this one. Maybe I might wait for the 21 APO SL. Maybe not:-).

    Hi, love watching your reviews on Leica and other camera systems. One questions though, do you own all of these cameras or you have to return after reviewing them. Just wondering. Again, I love the you you explain about different gear. Thanks.

    Hi Math, thank you for sharing your first impressions, your reviews have always been very helpful and informative.
    I'd like to purchase a new camera c/w a 50mm prime. In your point of view, which system would be a better choice:
    1) Leica SL2 with 50mm APO Summicron f/2.0
    2) Canon R5 with 50mm RF f/1.2 L?
    Canon offers a better all around system with superior AF and a wider aperture lens. On the contrary, there is a "Leica factor" which is hard to explain (I believe you understand me as a Leica user :).
    I'm not sure whether my decision should be governed by practicality or emotions.

      build quality of RF lenses is questionable, even if canon has used high-grade plastic, esp. when it is charging $3000 for 50/1.2 the build chould have been better. Leica M & SL lenses have pure metal build. The 50mm f/1.4 Summilux for my M10P is an All-Brass lens. If i was an R5 shooter, i would much rather have a lens which no other brand makes, eg. 28-70/2 ; because now even Sony & Nikon make a 50/1.2

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Před 3 lety +1

      Oooops - this is a tough question, Farhad. The better value package in terms of quality, durability and Leica-factor I personally see in the SL2 with the 50mm Apo-Summicron-SL, means, your option 1). Having said that, my Leica addiction is very likely clouding my objective judgment since the Canon EOS R5 clearly provides many more features and is also from a video perspective, autofocus system and affordability of lenses a highly attractive package. In addition, the RF 50mm f/1.2 is a very good lens. So here is my conclusion: if you are a 100% tech geek who wants to have the most feature-stuffed camera, go for the R5. If you are Leica-addicted like me but still want a very modern, highly durable camera, go for the SL2 plus Apo-Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 and, I am sure, you will not regret it :)

    28 or 35....hard choice. My personal opinion there are no autofocus lenses of any brand that look better then Leica or Voigtländer M lenses images, I’ll include Zeiss 35mm F1.4 distagon ZM, While I like the idea of auto focus even the Leica SL versions underwhelm when compared to M glass. I think I’ll continue to shoot M glass on my SL and forego autofocus. The only one I’m impressed with is the SL 50mm f1.4, if you’re going to spend the money and carry the bulk and weight you got to make it worth my while. Where’s the SL 35mm F1.4

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Před 3 lety

      Thanks William, I share your passion for manual focus lenses like Leica M, Zeiss or Voigtlaender. Manual focus is a totally different shooting experience and makes in many cases more happy than autofocus. Having said that, autofocus is in various photography disciplines important like in sports and action and, therefore, appreciated too by me.

    Dear Math, thanks for your video. I’m a new owner of this system. It’s fantastic but I don’t like the battery life of my SL2. Could you tell me something about your experience, please? Greeting from Bologna

      @mathphotographer  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Giulio, and warm welcome to the Leica SL-world. I always have spare batteries for my cameras to avoid running out of power when in the field. A few hundred shots on my SL2 are no problem, never counted them but remember doing timelapses with 600+ shots with one battery only.

      Not born rich, actually the opposite, born into a so-not-wealthy-family :) and yes, spending hard earned money for cameras and lenses I love; sometimes I also do not own them but get them for reviews and have to return them. And, definitely not sponsored or paid by Leica. Not paid by any camera manufacturer or lens maker. Independent to say whatever I like to say about whatever gear I am reviewing.
