      For some people, they dedicate a significant amount of time and effort during their entire lifetime towards taking images. Then afterwards they will die and their images will potentially outlive all material objects or accounts to remember them by. There's no reason why a digital photo cannot last 1 million years. So there is an argument to be made that you should do whatever possible to take the best images you can. This doesn't mean buy a Leica, but eventually the cost of a lens will be long forgotten. Camera equipment is cheap for what it is capable of, even at $5000. After an image is taken, it is difficult to go back later and add more details, but taking details away is easy.

    What a great idea to do this review!! Kudos to you Chris.
    Being able to sort of compare this lens to the more common stuff through your usual procedure is brilliant.
    And I think your review describes very-very well what Leica's craft and know-how is about.

    Impressive performance. I wasn't expecting much, but indeed this lens honours the brands name. I love the Sony version of this lens, very versatile, since it's as well great with it's 42mm APSC. The Leica version definitely adds further optical qualities on top of that and will easily crop into to even 70mm without much loss in quality.

    • @Bayonet1809
      @Bayonet1809 Před 2 měsíci +2

      There is no Sony version of this lens, this is an original Leica optical design. Unless you consider all 28mm f/2 lenses to be just different versions of the same lens?

    I have become a big fan of Leica. I’m not surprised at the performance of the lens. I shoot with the M11 but use Voigtlander lenses to save a bit. It would be interesting to see a Voigtlander to Leica comparison. I do however recognize that manual lenses on M body Leicas may not fit the channel’s testing methods.

      @@janfrosty3392 Oh please get off your high horse. The only reason photographers pay so much for Leica is because of the little red badge on the camera. Would you like a comparison since you asked? Leica Summilux-M 90mm f/1.5 ASPH. lens goes for $13,795 before tax. The Canon 85mm F/1.2 RF lens goes for $2,600 before tax. Want another comparison? I found a Zeiss C Sonnar 50mm F/1.5 ZM on MPB for about $700 in excellent condition. A used Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens goes for $3,000. Remember that these are both for the Leica M mount and both are regarded as high-quality German manufacturers. The only difference is that Zeiss doesn't give their executives crack before choosing a price for their lenses.
