  • Do you have a dog who likes to alert bark inside the house or out in the yard? He may benefit from learning the "look" game. Mikkel Becker demonstrates how this great training rewards your dog for performing a more acceptable behavior instead of barking when he sees his usual triggers. Learn more at www.vetstreet.com/.

I love this technique! I am soooo sick of hearing that I needed to train my dog to speak... She learned through training that you get treats by being calm and quiet! I can't make her bark no matter how hard I try.

I actually really like this technique, I personally have a dog who is dog aggressive and I’ve been working on a similar technique with him. You should really mention in the video how long something like this will take between the first example of this training and the end result which is your dog coming to you when it notices something significant

You teach the dog what to do before it comes to that, you can't expect a dog to learn this when hyped up like that. It goes step by step

We have a dog who is a serial barker. If she gets triggered, which can happen completely out of the blue, she will bark, and bark, and bark. She can sometimes go on for 20 minutes straight if you don't stop her. It's ridiculous. Taking her for walks also doesn't stop her barking in the yard. The best we've got is calling her inside with a treat calmly. And even then she will ignore us half the time and we have to go and fetch her. She's got terrier in her so I definitely think it's territorial. She's also quite smart and extremely stubborn.
Sometimes when we go out we want to be able to let her stay in the backyard because that's where she wants to be. But we can't. We tried to in the first few weeks we got her to get her used to the backyard. Someone complained to the Council after a few days because she would absolutely go crazy barking.
I might give this a try. Can't hurt. I have dreams of her one day actually being well-behaved haha

Our dog sees the cats across the street and out of nowhere barks and the hair on her back rises etc. It's hard to make her stop, we usually have to pull her away from the window. We tried squirting with water and saying no bad etc, little 5 minute cennal time outs. Sometimes it would be people walking by, our neighbors.
On walks she can be ok, depending on the area, there are lots of times she may be fine going one direction and pay attention to me and treats, I've been trying to get her to walk at a slower relaxed pace, but coming back she's all in high alert mode where she is always looking around, pulling on the leash, ignoring me and treats, walking to the middle of the road etc. (We live in a neighborhood just outside of town so there isn't much traffic but stills it's annoying that she goes all over.
There are times she can ignore a dog for the most part but cats she seems to just hate for some reason, odd thing is that a friends place who has cats, she had no issues with, actually touched noses with one and sniffed it's butt, (this was the first time she met them)
I'll try this but not sure how well it will work, she's 3 and been doing this now for almost 2 years. But she is a smart intelligent dog so I'm hoping if my family all works with her she may improve

in this case, once he is trained to do this, how do they actually learn how to not bark at strangers approaching near the owner's house without any command or treat? Assuming nobody's at home? or do they just get used to it without the command and treat (but we have to do the same steps again once in a while?)

Our dog loves having people over, as rare as it is, but when someone is coming to the door or through the back yard he acts like he wants to rip their face off. If I can get him to sit long enough to put the leash on, it takes him a while but he'll sit long enough to let me open the door, all the while he's struggling to contain himself. Once I do get the door open he want's to go flying out of the door to say hi. The biggest concern that I have is that he has a bad habit of nipping/ grabbing at hands when he's excited like this.

AnimalLifestyle - In Your Dogs World/Perception, Everything Your Dog Barks At Eventually Does Go Away. You may Not See It The Same But It's Actually Very True in Almost ALL Cases. For Instance, If Someone walks by Your Home, Your Dog Barks and The Person Keeps Walking On By - Eventually Out of Your Dog's Sight, or Senses, Smell & Sound. You as The Human Simply Sees a Person Walking By Your Home. Your Dog Sees a Person Coming Close, So They Bark, and The Person Then Goes Away from Their Senses. The Same is True of Someone on a Bicycle or Skateboard. As They get Close, Your Dog Barks to Scare Them Away and Sure Enough, It Works ! Within Moments, They have Passed and are No Longer Within Your Dog's Sight, Smell or Hearing Space. They are Gone. Therefore, In Your Dog's Mind ... It was a Successful Tactic to Bark, Causing "The Thing" They Fear, to Go Away. I Hope that Helps to Explain How Your Dog Perceives His or Her Barking to Work at Chasing Away The Cause of Their Fear. Nigel Reed has Some Very Good Videos on Working With Fearful, Barking, (Leash or Dog Aggressive) Dogs. Best of Success to You & Your Dog !

I will try this, I’m beginning to resent my dog because he’s a major territorial dog and it gets annoying, people walk in, he acts all big and tough but when they get near he’ll pee himself and hide away and start barking again, I’m phasing into this feel where I want peace and quietness, being alone and think deeply, when it gets interrupted by my dog I get irritated. I’m also not very active with him, maybe he can have a better owner. However I’ll train him and see where it goes

There's a lady that I don't know very well and she doesn't train her pooch very well. All she does is sit there and not pay attention to it during the training process of keeping her pet calm and feel less aggressive around strangers. This personally explains why I don't feel comfortable enough walking straight down the street with a parent or a guardian when the weather's 🆒er. 👍🏻 if you agree and want to make an appointment with her virtually during COVID-19.
