@Clint Cannon The only Doberman I've ever met was a long time ago, when I was a young, slight thing. I went into a hardware store and was wandering the aisles, and this very rotund Doberman was padding around loose in the shop. Being a dog lover, I started talking to him and he trotted over. As I began to pet him, he started leaning in to me to get better pets, and almost knocked me over! He was such a sweetheart. At that point, the owner saw what was going on and called, "Atlas, come!" And the good boy recalled instantly. "Atlas" was the most fitting name ever for that dog and I will always remember him.

90% of the dogs in my neighborhood are like this, small dogs that bark constantly. My dog is 70lbs and rarely barks, anytime we go on a walk we are bombarded with small barking dogs. Those little dogs seem so fearless to just walk up to my dog, the one good thing is the ones that don't bark get along great with my dog. Can't wait to see the progress on the little guy!

My dog is small and you are 100% right. She barks at all the dogs and growls at them. Not because she wants to fight, but because she wants them to play right there and then without asking. She’s a demanding little bitch. The other dog we have at the house (pitbull/husky mix) lets her do whatever to her, so now she thinks all dogs are the same. And approaches the dogs that way. Once I went to a friends house and they have like 5 dogs. They didn’t put up with her crap and she behaved for like 2 days as I walked her. I need to go there more often so they can teach her better.

I have a greyhound and greyhound borzoi mix. I walk them in tandem and they are perfectly mannered. If a cat runs out in front of them they may turn their heads to watch or put up their ears, same with well mannered loose dogs…BUT! My neighbors have a reactive dachshund that barks and leaps against its leash as if to attack my two, this makes my dogs react and these people think since my dogs are big it’s their fault. They don’t notice my dogs are not straining at the leash but theirs is, my dogs are not going batshit crazy barking but theirs is. Truthfully I don’t think my dogs would hurt the little pos but give him a good well deserved lesson also. I hate yappy effing dogs.

I told grandma it should be corrected but she was like 'Oh, he's always been like that, not to mention he's pretty old now for training.'. What happened a while after? He goes to a big dog on the street and almost gets EATEN for his attitude. Seriously, the other dog's head was almost as big as grandma's dog. One bite and almost had half the dog in its mouth. We had to bring her dog to the vet for stitches. His back was almost torn off.

This dog looks and acts incredibly similar to my chihuahua mix. The only difference is that when I physically correct him, he redirects on me./anyone delivering a correction. He has never been able to be pet by a stranger, and can only be touched by 5 people. I have tried a lot of desensitization, structure, and now even medications to control his threshold. I am a beginner/novice dog trainer (literally *just* completed my certification) so I have a decent knowledge of how to handle and manage him. I mostly came here to say 1. I want to see more with this pup, if you can. 2. I understand the challenges of this level of reactivity 3. If possible, let us in on how you would handle this if Boomy were to be the kind of dog to redirect and deliver level 3-4 bites?

how you tried positive reinforcement? Maybe introduce strangers with your pupper on a leash and the stranger sitting either in a chair or on the floor with a treat. Or maybe whenever the pupper allows others to touch them, they get a treat. This works really well with highly anxious and even some aggressive dogs(I used to volunteer at an animal shelter and the main trainer that worked with us did this, along with the corrections and redirections). This even works with cats! Also, depending on where your at, you can get CBD oil made for dogs, and rub a single drop on the back of one ear(CBD is not harmful to dogs, THC is, so make sure you get a CBD oil that is made for dogs) it'll act as a calming aid to reduce any anxiety- i use it currently on my cats to help them relax for bathtime and nail clipping.
Another good thing to too is get a wide mouth muzzle, it'll allow the dog to still bark but not be able to bite, getting that anxiety out by being able to bark and have the person not react/pay any attention to him will show him that no matter how hard he tries, bad behavior wont get him anywhere. But its all just a waiting game, some dogs will never be able to handle other dogs or new people, and that's okay, you have to treat highly aggressive dogs as if they are humans with trauma. I always get great results when I handle aggressive/hgh anxiety animals like people with the same issues

My dog was incredibly reactive to other dogs. Besides him not being very socilized he was trying to protect me from everything. Small big and little dogs, i started leash correcting him went he would lunge at dogs, once I got that down and he stopped barking and lunging i started slowly getting him close to very calm and well behaved dogs. He would sometimes get triggered at sudden movement but now dogs can run by and he's 9/10 times calm. Love this approach much more showing the dog good from bad instead of trying to distract with treats.

Love seeing you work with a smaller dog and seeing how much force you use in the corrections. One of my dogs is from a hoarding situation and had a similar reaction to other dogs. It's a lot to take on. It's been eight years and he's not perfect, but he's a lot better. Looking forward to the updates.

Totally agree. Dogs are not people in fur. I was lucky enough to work with a lady who was part of training dogs for the RCMP. She was exceptional at explaining the dog psychology behind every excercise we did. We took our Golden to Utility. I ended up doing some rescue work with difficult dogs who were not adoptable. All of them found homes eventually. The worst was a bull terrier Jack Russell cross. His nick name was Barnhole. Our big Golden would shoulder check him when he got too rough. Barney was a jerky dog.

This is almost exactly as my dog, with his brain/emotions all over the place when he sees dogs. Your leash reactivity method works, but I have to do it every walk, and when I don't do it because he is a good boy and always with me, that's the cases when his emotions go all over the place. I can't wait to see the progress with this dog.

Had one of these little yappers that the neighbors let out their front door every day. It would literally yap for hours on end at everything. Even followed me up into my own yard and onto my porch. Big mistake. My "Prince" Angel (Bull Terrier Mix) set it straight. Just opened the door and said get it. Oh did it know it screwed up. Its tone changed from bold barking to fear in an instant and it was immediately ran over. Angel didn't bite it, she just ran it over. I called her and she came right back inside. The dog never barked at me again, and even stopped barking in general a lot less. Was it wrong of me? Maybe? The yapper was fine and learned a very valuable life lesson from it. I still chuckle thinking about it.

This video made me feel all the feels. Not only is Boomie the same age and looks A LOT like my rescued mix-breed Luka, but it’s just exactly the same behavior. It breaks my heart to think my baby was in a hoarding situation or abused, and it also breaks my heart seeing him miss out on being a happy puppy who can play with his friends or not being able to go to the park or the beach because we don’t know if we’ll both know how to respond to a potential situation. I am currently taking him to a training school where we’ve both made some progress (I am aware I also have a lot learn as an inexperienced owner), but it’s quite slow. I know patience is key, and I am not about to give up on us, so it’s super helpful to know about key words like desensitizing; letting them blow some steam and correction. I will try to go through this feedback loop til we get it just right 💪🏻🐶 thank you for sharing your knowledge -I know you’ve worked quite hard at earning it, but it’s just so nice of you to share it and help owners and puppies all over the world, to have a fighting chance ❤️ many blessings and greetings from Central America 🐾

Great job as always! This is were i would use a half choke collar to get more of a pop and lay on the ground to get the right angle of the correction( which is the most difficult thing with smallbreeds). To be clear i use half choke collar only for the pop effect, the chain helps with a wierd sound which helps alot. sometimes you only need to make a link move in order for the dog to react to the leash.
when rescuing a dog, people tend to feel bad for the dogs previous life instead of Retraining and resocializing the dog as it would be a puppy.
The rescue dogs are usualy in a fearperiod for 3 weeks when they get to their new home, this is the time to put in structure and rules for the dog (push the dog, teach the dog what you expect from it and socialize them with ur type and way of life, be calm and solid (i had to go grab my dog cause he refused to sit and stay before mealtime, he ran to another room when i told him to do so(fearful)) The next 3 months they will push ur buttons, they will test the new owners strenght to uphold the rules and structure, be unweavering! Be kind, yet firm. Fair and understanding, but dont feel bad for the dog, they should be in good, loving hands:)
Prince does his job like a boss!

I recently brought home a rescue dog. He acts and reacts the same as your dog in the video outside on his walks. It’ll be three months soon. Working with a dog trainer and the process is extremely slow. It’s interesting if you put him in an environment with other dogs in a home and he’s much different and calmer. Once the dog is outside, he becomes aggressive through fear. Your video confirmed his actions and reactions to me. Other than this bizarre behavior he’s a very loving dog inside his home and inside his backyard. thanks for your wonderful videos.

I have three in similar states of unrest around strange dogs, desensitizing and correcting is the only combination I've found that begins to make progress.
Best on the effort with Boomie!

These videos fascinate me not because I’m a dog owner (I don’t have pets), I find them so interesting because of the influences of the owner’s’ behavior plus how each dog’s bad behavior is a reflection of their own personal little traumas. Pet ownership is such a huge responsibility that should not be taken lightly.
