I'm a senior in high school and I was making up a test that I missed from being out for tennis the other day. So while I'm testing my APUSH teacher from last year walks into my current economics teacher who is her good friend, and the entire time I'm testing they are talking about a student that never goes to class, is failing both of their classes with an 18, and still gets to participate in extra curriculum. I was doing my best not to laugh cause they were ranting for a straight half hour and I was just trying to finish the test. I hear my teachers complain all the time at my school about students that skip (they never say names tho so I have no clue which students they are)

      @loganslaton7137 Před 2 lety +11

I’m a senior in high school as well, but I work as a front office aid. I learned really quickly(I’m usually loud and talkative) that if I be quiet, I learn all kinds of stuff about teachers, students, admin, and other staff. Also, another kind of cool perk is that one of the custodians doesn’t really speak to students because she doesn’t know much English, but she always says hello to me in English and I’ve been working on small conversations in Spanish. She’s the sweetest lady ever. As for teacher besties, my lit teacher has her teacher bestie and I’m always in my lit teacher’s classroom to make up work or asking for help with writing something for whatever reason. Anyways, her bestie now says hey to me and knows me by name and they’ll talk in front of me.

Teachers can not survive toxicity work environments without their besties. Whether the bestie is your Para (T.A), your fellow grade level colleagues, or another grade/subject colleague. More than half of my classroom management strategies came from my teacher besties. You need a bestie at work, so you do not bring it home and dump it on your partner or family. I want to express my appreciation for the four of you. I'm 61 years old and I didn't have teachers that seemed like real people like you are. My teachers were more robotic until the 7th grade. Then there were a few that showed they could have a serious impact on their students while showing they could also be humorous. I enjoyed learning from them more than all the other ones that seemed robotic to me. Please don't let the system ever get to you. Please stay the way you are because your students deserve teachers who believe in what they are doing and aren't afraid to make a difference in this world.

Isn't it nice knowing you received a superior education when compared to what kids are getting today? Every teacher in the history of teaching believes in what they are doing, these folks certainly didn't. And the only difference these teachers are making in the world is that they are turning out more depressed, depraved, and gender confused kids than at any time in history.

That's how extroverts become friends with introverts.
We sit there quietly and are shy and won't go up to people and meet them. And then some extrovert is like "y'know what? I like that one's energy. Imma talk to them" and that's how we obtain friends and besties.

I worked at an Osceola County charter school & had 3 of the most outstanding team besties since I started teaching in '97.
It was like poetry...if one was delayed or ill we smoothly just transcended organization of the students.
It was so fluid our students started to organize themselves...
"We 7 are going to Ms. D, so yall need to go to either to Ms. M or Mr. B.
Though rare, it was a joy to work with these educators. We completely change the culture of our school to a supportive & respectful environment.
I cried when they each transferred. The climate was not the same. So, I transfered so as not to fall into a depressive state.

I have no teacher bestie either. I am friendly with my colleagues, but I have no one go to teacher that I have established a real friendship with. I started my first year during the pandemic (2020) which is a tough time to be a new teacher, especially if you don’t have that one go to person to talk to. I really enjoy watching you all because it helps bring me clarity on what are my issues as a teacher and what may be more universal teacher issues. There have been many things you all discussed that I thought were just symptoms of my incompetence, and I now know are actually normal teaching issues. I also learned how I can improve as a teacher by watching you all discuss all things teaching. So, thank you for this outlet for us teachers who may not have a trusted confident they can go to for these things. 🤗

I think it would be interesting to see an episode with a custodian or Maintenance person. We are so under rated, but people don’t realize all that we do in the background to keep that building operable. All the things we clean, fix, organize, set up/tear down, etc in order to make day to day school and events work fluidly for staff, students, and parents…

My daughter had a teacher like that, cuz of a weird thing the principal decided to do my daughter actually got to have her twice but her name was mrs. Hartley. I was volunteer coordinator at the school and I love that teacher as well oh, she kept all the stuff I made her for her class and would put it back up every year. There's actually a lot of teachers at that school that did that with special stuff I made them, a couple things got laminated because of how durable they wanted them and they were able to compact down to the size of a roll of wrapping paper for the Earth I made for culture night for example I made it accurate with weather patterns and everything and we did girl and boy cutouts of different skin colors holding hands the teacher ended up loving it so much she wanted to be able to use it over and over and over oh, so I carefully measured and cut and laminated it and strips that she could easily put up herself. I still have teacher phone numbers in my phone that I get calls from every so often to make a little fix here and there or a special project that only I can pull off. We did a lot of projects for the four different special needs classrooms we had, so I made batches of special matching folders that took multiple layers to make and the teachers would trade them between the classrooms so the kids would get to learn different stuff at different levels. One of the teachers had this cute frog that was the weather frog but didn't have any of the clothes to dress up the Frog anymore and so I made them for all the different weather we laminated them and put Velcro on them so the kids could dress the frog in the morning or when the weather changed. Another favorite was Miss Gentry and she was our Pinterest teacher she would come to us with projects and we figure out how to do them oh, I made her a Doctor Who data board when one yr I did it over summer vacations because our school was the summer school spot that year and we stayed on to help and made the student handbooks for the next year. The data board was the Tardis going through the warp with little mini Doctor Who caricatures for the kids. One of the very last things I did before having to step down, I was in a lot of pain due to medical reasons later on I got diagnosed with permanent nerve and muscle damage

On a separate note, I wish I had the maturity and communications skills you guys have when I was your age. Vent once and then work on a solution. I spent my working life in the corporate world, and a manager would always respect a complaint more if it was accompanied by a potential solution.

interesting! PLT in my school is permission to leave, essentially a slip written on and posted in the front office for you to grab and give to your teacher after your parent calls it in.

When I would respond to things at work, it will be sarcasm. I sometimes got in trouble for that. I had to sometimes say nothing so my sarcastic self didn't come out at the wrong time.

slightly related to bri's angry march story: when my history teacher gets mad, since it's never usually at his students, we become the besties he's goes off to. like just today he got super annoyed at the vice principal (completely understandable, even *i* know that the admins at my school suck) and he was just popping swear words off like fireworks ...😭 this is probably irresponsible and could get him in trouble but as middle schoolers all we can do is just sit back and watch

If we're going to talk about teacher besties, we must mention teacher nemesis.
I left my 7th grade English group, for a class of 25 little 2nd graders.
I love the 7th graders and I love teaching English. I'm sad every single day. It's been 5 weeks, I don't often get this sad about anything 😞 especially not for this long, before I shut down emotionally because I'd felt enough.
We have a staff meeting during our morning break every day, so I'm forced to walk past the class.
But they come to say hi often. Bittersweet moments though. One of my teacher besties' class is right across from mine. She teaches, amongst others, LO to the Grade 7s. She's also the school medic. The schools here haven't had nurses since 1994.
One.of my babies comes back from recess, crying uncontrollably. She had fallen, and tried but failed by 1000000ths of a milliseconds, to break the fall or protect her face. She landed head first 😱 I took her to my friend immediately. She checked her for signs of concussion or any other injuries. She told her to rest a while and go back. We ended up having to call her parents. I was shocked to see her eye sockets doing some of the work.

My teacher bestie and I used to be next door to each other, but we had to move to another floor and now we are at the opposite ends of the hall from each other, so now we call each other many times a day!! We would not survive without each other.

I am not a teacher, but I can empathize with Brie's not having a work bestie Thankfully, I found a place that has loads of higher energy. People thought I was unapproachable because I worked on keeping that in.

I know this was so long ago but I came up with a name for this tv show idea “The Substitute”. We know from the beginning that she stole the dead teachers identity, but not why she did it or how the teacher died. Eventually, we find out

This story isn’t on topic but it’s alright. In 2nd i had these 2 “friends” that were literally jerks to me but didn’t think they did anything wrong. One day at recess i was just hanging out with my 2 friends and they were yelling rude comments to those “friends” and i was just talking to them about the “friends” and didn’t really realize that they were right there so then the girls told the meanest teacher and i the one who really did nothing wrong because i was saying it in secret got in trouble with the teacher and my mom was on the PTO and she was right outside the classroom as i was sobbing from getting yelled at. Never ever forget that day
