Leaving the classroom this year was one of the hardest decisions I've made. In this video I'll talk about how and why I made that decision, and what's next.

I packed up teaching as well. It's not that I don't love teaching, but things have changed, and our world is changing. I've been leaning towards owning my own business as well. All the best.
@@oclayton1911 Great question! There are lots of options honestly. If you want to start your own business, I think a service-based business is easiest to start because then you can do or teach people something you're good at :)
I quit teaching to start my own job (in 2016) and I did NOT have teacher guilt 😂 Congrats on the new business and good luck! Also it’s interesting that you say starting your own business is the biggest self-development journey. I’m 7 years in and yes it really is! Self-discipline has not been easy to develop but now it comes naturally. Also you develop an entrepreneurial mindset over the years (a lot of conditioning to unravel).
There is a huge crossover viewership between homeschooling families and “why I left teaching” vids. Would love to see these two groups come together via pod schools and private tutoring.
The parents who opt for homeschooling do so because they don't want their children to be indoctrinated by liberal teachers in the public schools who espouse liberal ideology. I doubt that they're interested in hiring former public school teachers.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s actually refreshing to hear that someone left teaching because they were called to do something different, rather than being forced out due to toxic behavior and being unsupported by admin. After teaching for several years, I decided to step away to raise my children. Once the youngest was in kindergarten, I began subbing. It allowed me the flexibility necessary because my husband worked away for long periods of time. I’m in my 18th year of subbing. I love it! For the past several years I only sub at our middle school and high school. It’s so rewarding to see those crazy middle schoolers come into their own. My goal for each day: make a positive difference in at least one student’s day. I do this by smiling, encouraging, listening, laughing, offering grace, all while holding them accountable. Yes, I have days that are rough, but I love being in the classrooms and interacting with these amazing and ridiculous students. Best of luck to you as you expand your business. You should definitely return to your school and share your experience with the students as part of a career day.
I give you a lot of credit for leaving at the end of the year verses up and leaving when it was convenient for you. I wish you all the best with your business.

After 39 years of doing the same thing in my trade at 55 i was done. I was sick and didn't realize it. Went to a therapist and she told me what i was doing all the hours and weekends was not normal. She told me people dont live like that.
I find it so crazy that in the US you just teach one grade and class. As a UK science teacher, I teach physics and chemistry to students age 11-18, and have 10 different classes. Feels like we both have pretty crazy systems, just in very different ways
I was told I couldn't read books with my Language Arts class, that I had to stick with the program of two-page excerpts with short questions. Talk about boring and of no use.....well, useful to practice for the state test, I guess.

Instead, the context of my initial post was to imagine if all of your teachers from anyone’s past came to the conclusion of eventually quitting and going home crying and deciding to leave teaching for good. Anytime a concerning teacher quits for such reasons it lowers the possibilities of children having the opportunity to gain a good education and the experience that comes from that relationship with a teacher. The ramifications are tremendous. Especially when the education system becomes so desperate in finding replacements over and over again, and end up deciding to replace them with individuals who are not exactly qualified for the job.

Good question! My first year yes because I didn’t have the skills I needed to properly manage a classroom. But by my fourth year it wasn’t an issue anymore.
There’s nothing worse than spoiled little brats. It’s just totally annoying. If you can’t put them out of your class then it’s time to go to truck driving school or really just anything else where you’re in the adult world instead of the babysitting world.

You were trying to raise some other person's child, not just teach them. I would like to know what you people think is a correct Salary for a teacher. When I was in high school. All the teachers got second jobs through the summer. But they were paid 12 months out of the year and I know it's at A. Reduced rate, but it did give him time to make more money. For the 3 months they were out. Teachers nowadays don't do anything like that what do you consider a Fair salary

I am on the Autism Spectrum. I did not know it when I went into teaching; I was diagnosed late in life, at age 58, when I had myself formally tested by the best Neuropsychologist in our city. I simply grew weary of administrators' ridiculous demands; parents who refused to parent their precious pumpkins; children who had no respect at all for adults; *and I found I had been casting my pearls before the proverbial swine.* Office work is so much better: at four o'clock PM I leave it at the office, and my evenings belong to me.
Wow, your principal sounded nice compared to mine. Mine were total dictators. Like the Kim Jung Un of principals. They never offered me 💩. Never helped me develop as a teacher by differentiating my classes. Male teachers are treated better in general. I never had guilt leaving because administrators never gave an F about me. One of my students almost punched me. I DO NOT REGRET LEAVING TEACHING. THANK THE LORD. 🎉TOO TOXIC. ☠️TOO MUCH GASLIGHTING.
don't forget about us poor bus drivers 🚌, we get disrespected by parents, other drivers, and kids as we have to babysit while driving.

You do have to renew your 5 yr Professional Cert in Fl. Idt the Cert lasts a lifetime. Maybe with masters and tenure?
