Apparently you need Rober to engineer the worlds most durable blob for you.
Doesn’t seem like it would be that hard. A well-stitched canvas liner to put the blobs inside of should make them way more durable. Just like the liners for boating tubes, lift bags, etc.

I’m kinda curious if they planned it and had the manufacture make it specifically for them or if the manufacturer was caught completely off guard by the first giant order for some completely random dinosaur toy came in after he got so popular

The van frame absorbed too much energy before it even launched. When the frame crunched it lost a lot of energy that could have gone into lift. Great vids guys!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Too close to the fulcrum and you won't really get anywhere. You have to be further apart, like the ends of a see-saw.
yes, except the blob is not a perfect lever. What they are going for is the shortest and quickest way for the air pressure to be transferred to the other end of the blob in other words they don't want the pressure to have any room to go other than to the van's side. So a compromise between a big blob and a small blob would the best fit. if they had dropped it at the edge of the blob they would have gotten a way better result
@@joshuakarron2752 again the blob is not a perfect lever, so it does abide by most lever rules but not all. In a perfect lever you have almost perfect transfer of energy from one end to the other (aside from friction in the fulcrum). In a blob filled with air you do not have that especially when the blob is too big. If the blob is too big and there is a lot of space in the middle between where the object falls and where the launched object is placed then the air would much rather stay in that middle space instead of being forced under the launched object. By constricting the area available for the air inside the blob to roam in u get a more concise transfer of kinetic energy of the falling object. Now of course too small of a blob wouldn't serve us well here hence why I said a medium blob would be the best fit
If the mass covering one side is infinite, moving it closer to what you're launching would actually make it launch further because it displaces more and more of the air inside. It makes sense that their mistake would be not thinking about the air sneaking around the other side of the car. Textbook mistake in the process of learning. Just hoping that they get both the malleability of the objects being launched lesson as well as displacement fulcrums 101.

The van should be upright so the frame takes the initial push from the blob better. the side crumbled and took the power out of it.
Yup, crumple zones are a thing. Great for saving your life, not so great for launching.
That, and maybe it should be sitting on a set of jack stands on a board so that the suspension doesn't have a chance to dampen the push.

You could do some favorite targets from the tower. Fridges, washers, and other appliances. To put a twist on it, you could try and launch them to land in a mock up of a kitchen. That could be a fun way to incorporate the blob into a contest

Blob launch idea: think of it as a “reverse egg drop” from Physics class. One guy climbs into the “launch vehicle”, and drop 1000 kilos onto the blob. Maybe the launch vehicle has a parachute that deploys at the apogee to slow the descent. What could go wrong?!? #sciencewithgonson
