One thing we can all agree on no matter what our race,,,religion or whatever we all can appreciate a great soulful song and there is no doubt Stapleton nailed this version of TN Whiskey! You just don't hear a soulful country song such as this. Most country singers have that country twang in their voices. This guy has soul in his voice and can hit those notes!
For a country artist he has so much soul not only his voice but playing the guitar also
I think you would love watching the live version of this. His wife sings backup and to watch him sing âto herâ is so sweet and such a beautiful window into a strong man loving his wife. Also her voice is stunning. Thereâs one on here of her doing a solo that was jaw dropping. They are both so incredibly humble to be so very talented.

Itâs November 2023 and I discovered this song a few weeks ago and I kid you not I listen to this song a lot.
The woman who is singing harmony with him during the chorus is his wife Morgane. Hell of a singer in her own right.

He is a country artist but this song is pure blues. The time signature the chord progression is ALL blues. Him and JT do a great live version.
exactly correct. and actually (and a little sadly) it is really just "i'd rather go blind". if you listen to them, they are nearly identicle. this is a TWO CHORD song, by the way (A to B, and that's it folks).
and really a regular blues progession would normally include a third chord. this sort of swaying from one note to another, in such a great groove, is beautiful simplicity.
My husband used to play the original version of this to me during our 26 year marriage. When Chris redone it like this , we were blown away and had the chance to dance to this song before I lost him suddenly last year

This is actually a cover! It was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. David Allen Coe recorded this song in the late 70's/ early 80's. But DAC didn't sing it like this!

You should always listen to live.. the Austin City Limits performance with his wife is the only one I'd watch.
His live versions are even better. Country and Blues share their roots in American Gospel. Few singers get the words out from their heart making all around them swoon. Young boys today may want to dance apart from a Beautiful Lady to watch her, old men like me just want to hold a Beautiful woman close and sway to the music with her.
When I was young these slow songs of love and admiration brought young Ladies comfortably close during the song making for great memories.
