I was just going to give 1 suggestion, "CMA PERFORMANCE WITH JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE", they sang 2 songs together that night and it was Chris's breakout moment for ones who had been sleeping on him.. After saying no one compares to him, I also have to recommend Chris's tribute to Prince, the day he passed. He looked up to Prince. Without much, if any prep, he sings " Nothing Compares To You" at his concert, and a fan videos. It's amazing.

He has bad stage fright. So he looks at his wife who is singing with him. She keeps him grounded. He has written many songs for many artists. He is a rare talent beyond so many others.
Man, you gotta listen to Chris sing with his wife, Morgane, the mother of his five children. She's a terrific lady with a terrific voice and when they sing together, you can see how much they are still in love after being together for more than 20 years. I'd recommend their song More of You on PBS Tiny Desk series. It's very different from this, but very beautiful. You could also listen to them singing Amanda together on the Grand Ole Opry. He watches her often on stage because he suffers from stage fright sometimes. If you want your mind blown, watch his cover of It's a Man's World! He was in the audience, was recognized by one member of the band on stage, and was asked to come up, pick a song, and sing. It's incredible, and you can see the amazed reactions of the band members. James Brown would be proud.

I saw Chris live at Cotton Eyed Joes Jan 9 2016 watching him preform 20 feet from the stage sitting at a bar table drinking Tennessee Whiskey best damn night of of my life. The man is an absolute legend!✌️

Morgane talked him to singing live and told him she would always be right by the
stage and he could look at her and sing. His talent needed to be shared. Chris had
extreme stage fright. He has written for many artists and now performs his own
songs. I have never found a bad song from Chris or Morgane.

Live Chris is _always_ best Chris. The studio cleans up that small scratchiness in his voice that is so beautiful, so if you have a choice between a Live song or Recorded one, choose live. Except for the official video for Fire Away, just because the video is so beautifully done. And so damn sad.

He is his own genre although country is where he hangs his hat 🤠👍🏼 blues, soul rock he does it all to perfection. You are spot on about live performances. Listen to anything from Chris live if possible. He is better than his recorded music. Brings that extra sauce! Listen to “Cold” live at the CMA’s, won Grammies , then “I was Wrong” and “Sometimes I Cry” at the Bing Lounge for starters. His influences growing up in Kentucky were Snoop Dog and Dr Dre and cut his teeth singing in church.
He considers Aretha Franklin THE best female artist. Keep going down this rabbit hole cause Chris was amazing in his twenties singing lead for the famous bluegrass band The Steeldrivers and also sang in a Country rock band while writing award winning songs for other artists. I definitely suggest reacting to I was wrong live Austin city limits. If you haven’t watched it, he did a beautiful performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl. A couple of others I suggest are the live acoustic of “what are you listening to.”, “Either way” Live, and there are so many others. Also, he did a beautiful performance of ”hold on” with H.E.R. I believe it was at the Grammys.

Very similar boat, man. I spent my early life trapped in a 90s/2000s alt-rock grungy bubble. Had no interest in listening to anything else, and pretty much disregarded any of it when I heard it.

There’s one video of the one time he gets called up on stage, while in the audience, and does James Brown, excellently. There’s also one video of the one time, when Prince died, that he did Nothing Compares 2U, in tribute. I highly recommend these, along with all of his other live performances.
