My late husband loved this song. We played at his burial in 2021.

I know he wrote songs, I have never cared for his music since he took Tennessee Whiskey, trashed it up, changed the music to Etta Jones song “I’d rather go blind” that song was sacred DAC & George Jones, every time you turn around he’s jumping on someone’s bandwagon covering their songs, he doesn’t even sound country, he’s blues and his voice is raspy, like he’s struggling to breathe. To each their own, you like him good for you!

You know, maybe so. I’m just saying why did he take a country song and make it blues? He had no right to change the music but he did, probably to avoid paying royalties ( not sure how that works) he didn’t sing it the way it was written because his voice is so gravely. He did the same with the National Anthem, it’s meant to be sung in Acapulco, yet that’s not how he did it.
Many people think he was first to record Tennessee Whiskey. If some folks like him great, he’s not country. It’s just my opinion which doesn’t mean anything to anyone but me.
