Sorry I missed it live! I'm watching now, though. 🙂

16:45 If the GM really wants you to interact with the robbers too, he can do something like:
“One of the men turns to you and yells ‘What part of get on the ground don’t you understand?! You deaf or just dumb?’” waving his gun around.
You lose nothing by “doing what your character would do” as long as that means roleplaying. Good thing to think about!

Now, I know I’m being the annoying “exception to every rule” guy, but “combat should be fast and lethal” really depends on what you’re trying to evoke.
Viking shield duels between two incredibly defensive fighters. The fight scene from They Live. Any fight scene from Dragonball or pick your shonen anime… hell, a boxing match!
For me, combat should have reasons and consequences. Fast and lethal doesn’t matter a ton to me if it’s some random ninja squad attacking me for no reason, and defeating them leaves me with 8 gold in my pocket and nothing more to say.
If that combat takes 2 hours yeah that’s even worse lol.

Running battles can be exciting and take time, I agree. Hit point slow attrition is another story. That should be avoided.

@@Tablerunner Absolutely. When combat becomes a box ticking, numbers game, that's when you start to play "character sheet accountant" instead of roleplay.
