  • World-famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson joins Piers Morgan Uncensored for a discussion on space travel 50 years since man last went to the Moon.
Piers asks Neil about Prince William's recent disregard for the development of space tourism whilst the planet is in need of fixing, and Neil suggests that he is forgetting all the value that Space brings to our everyday life on Earth, such as satellites.
Piers then goes on to question Neil about recent predictions he made about what the year 2050 will be like, and in one answer he said that Humans will be able to regenerate limbs by 2050. Neil suggests that there are animals such as newts who can so maybe with future discoveries it is plausible at some point.

Almost no one who supports space colonization within the modern age believes that we should abandon Earth. We just want to spread out humanity among the stars to ensure that even if Earth is somehow made uninhabitable or destroyed, that humanity will still be thriving out within the universe at least somewhere. Of course, we should still try to help support Earth and it's wildlife, and move towards a more sustainable future as much as we can, however humanity is capable of doing a large multitude of things at once.

It is through exploration, and discovery that many problems have been solved, and new technologies invented.
Take the remote you use to change the tv channels...direct technology from the Apollo lunar program of the 60's. Astronauts used a hard wired remote control to operate the Lunar Rover car.
Yes it was envisioned earlier, but it did not become practical until after Apollo.
Before that, remotes had to be hard wired into the device through a long, heavily insulated cord. Personally, I didn't have any remote control devices until the 90's. Even though some may have been available for purchase in the 70's, I never knew any families that had remote control tv's.
Parents used their kids as the remote controls, and antennas back then.
I remember being told to change channels, & stand next to the Zenith color tv on 1 leg, with one arm on the top of the tv, and the other bent or twisted in some ungodly position until the picture was clear.

I totally agree with Prince William, we have a beautiful planet with air we can ACTUALLY breathe, thousands of years worth of foundations and infrastructure and evolution and societies that logistically run on a daily basis, so we SHOULD concentrate on fixing this planet first, rather that trying to set up shop on a planet with nothing, with no air and water, with unlivable temperatures and somewhere where we actually cannot survive there naturally. We have gone into space and analyzed enough to know there is no where even close that is livable and realistic. We should not stop expeditions into space, that important, but we SHOULD fix this place first as a priority. IMO

The investment in space exploration is an investment in technology that most if not all of us use here on Earth. Neil notes that the driver for space exploration in the 1960’s and early 70’s was to meet nationalistic and military goals. The real driver of exploration historically though is economics. That is why space tourism is critical.
