    The aluminum ball mount differs from other brands in that the ball platform area is only 2" wide (in the ball mount for a 2" receiver), instead of flared out to provide more material around the ball hole for more strength. I don't think I would use that near its limit.

    30,000 pound capacity shouldn't be surprise for fifth-wheel hitch capacity. The SAE standard for fifth-wheel and bed-mounted ball hitches (J2638) covers up to 30,000 pounds of trailer weight (and pin weight up to 1/4 of the trailer weight) just as the similar standard for conventional hitches (J684) covers up to 10,000 pounds. Most manufacturers of recreational fifth-wheel hitches have models up to 30,000 pounds rating, although the cheapest models start as low as 15,000 pounds.

    I really like Curt products but I was hoping they would have displayed a torsion flex type hitch to calm down the bouncing of my spring-less livestock trailer. My trailer bounces when I hit a bump and a torsion-flex hitch would help eliminate the severeness of the abrupt shock between the trailer and the bumper hitch. You've done a really nice job making viewers aware of the neat products. I don't pull a RV but more focus on tandem axel heavy and even light weight utility trailers would be nice. Thanks again for the video and have a fine week. 👍🏽🤠 11/30/22

    Curt has a design flaw on most of of their 5th wheel hitches. Look at where the safety pin is located. The only way to remove that safety pin is to have your truck straight with the trailer. That is not always the options you have while disconnecting your trailer.

    I use CURT products exclusively on my Z71 Tahoe. I pull a 7x16 enclosed, a 3/4tn military cargo trailer (camping), a 6x12 flat (lumber and misc) and a 3700lb boat. The "slop" at the 6:12ish time mark on that lunette and pintle causes me some concern. That seems to be A LOT of freeplay where the lunette rests below the ball. I can picture a bunch of slamming going on while on un-improved roads. When I saw the "it goes here", I thought it was going to be some sort of bushing.

      @davidwilems8915 Před rokem +1

      I get his hesitation. Its a pain to have the 5th wheel hitch taking up most of the bed, and if you want to remove it it weighs a good bit and requires 2 or 3 guys

    • @CR500R
      @CR500R Před rokem +4

      Receiver hitch / bumper pull is considerably more dangerous and feels unsteady compared to gooseneck / 5th wheel. I don't understand his hesitation. Receiver hitch towing allows for side-to-side sway, front-to-back rocking and bucking and often requires additional pricy items like weight distribution hitches and sway control systems. From a cost, actual safety, and "feel" standpoint... gooseneck / 5th wheel towing is vastly superior.
      I traveled cross country with a 30 foot enclosed car trailer and it was downright dangerous feeling being a traditional receiver hitch setup. It would have been so much better the other way. Far more confidence inspiring.

  • @chandrachurniyogi8394

    speaking of towing, wonder if there's a replacement for the big & heavy fifth wheel especially in semi trucks . . . one solution is a series of counter rotating pulleys (as in sailing ships) that runs through a electric motor installed (behind the driver's cab) on the truck chassis instead of the horse shoe shaped fifth wheel coupling . . . the steel wire threaded pulley system is connected to a conventional towing hitch (opposite J) as in normal cars & light pickup trucks . . . the pulley system is bolted to one or two raised lateral cross member on the rear chassis frame of the truck . . . inertial forces generated when on the move is offset by a tiny gyroscopic balance in the pulley . . . note the raised lateral cross member (like handle bar on front dashboard found in SUVs) is an extra & not part of the chassis frame . . .

    Very informative. I have a question though. Why is it that on the triple ball receivers you never see the fourth side of the receiver utilized? One would think that fourth side would have a flat steal with the hole 🕳️ in it for farm wagons welded to it. This 4-way would cover everything on the market. Is there a receiver like this on the market? Thanks.
