- Humans vs Superhumans | When Monsters Were Real and We Almost Went Extinct
Humans are the apex predator. Not an apex predator. The apex predator. Other than a handful of bacteria and viruses, there’s pretty much nothing stronger, more intelligent, or more adaptable than Homo sapiens.
Telling the human story from the beginning is difficult.
It was a time when two words defined our world: fear and violence. It was a time when we were not the apex predator; we were their prey.
We emerged from our caves during the day. Hoping we wouldn’t be hunted by the monsters in the woods.
So vicious were these monsters they still live in our myths -- and our nightmares. They created a generational trauma embedded into our DNA over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.
These creatures were stronger, faster, and (when it came to combat) more intelligent than we were. It’s a miracle any of us are even here.
This is the story of how modern humans conquered the monsters and won the battle for the world.
But here's the thing: those fearsome monsters defeated by humans? Were other humans.

Your gift of story telling is second to none. I forgot that I was watching the why files as you were telling the sub story of “imagine you’re a child in a village”. Damn good stuff.
That story needs to be made into a mini movie or something. Damn! I almost ran!
What you’re calling Neanderthals are/were actually called Nephilim. They’re mentioned in Genesis 6: 1-4 and the full story is told in the book of Enoch. 200 Watchers came down to earth and mated with human (homo sapiens) women. Their children became giants and are still around today in the form of Bigfoot (Sasquatch, Yeti, etc). Dr. Melba Ketchum did their DNA analysis and put it up on her website. It’s exactly what you’d expect: their mitochondrial DNA (the female line) is 100% Homo sapiens (human), while the male line is unknown.
Same here it's just so damn good 🎉🎉
I had the same experience while listening and realised I felt profoundly content for a moment there. After a rough day (unpaid carer) it was a touchstone to those warmer feelings when all is well.
And then there’s the song. I bloody love that song. ❤
This needs to be made into a movie asap !!!!
I’m a grown man 😅 and for the last 3 years I’ve waited for this show like a kid on sat morning cartoons
Sounds like you were one of the early subscribers.
Typical “entertainment” lately is anything but, so it’s the same way for me too. I love this show. This and Mr. ballen are my favorite
@@MikeD_I was an we really Aj thought CZcams algorithm was against us because it was a small channel but when it blew up it really blew up
Eating mushrooms changed us.
Same here!
Sometimes I read the title and think that the topic isn't something that interests me but I've been wrong every time. Your ability to tell a story is next level and you do it in a way that doesn't belittle anyone. This is the best channel on CZcams by far
Same honestly. Every single time
Based on the entertaining commercial spots, any topic would likely be interesting.
Same! I watched all the episodes that interested me and then I thought what the heck let’s just see about these other ones… and the conclusion so far is I liked every one
AJ is a master at his craft. Being in radio for years probably helps
Well said, WF never fails to amaze!
as an indonesian myself i've heard about myth from my ancestor where ancient humans in indonesia used to fight man-eater humanoid creature that pretty similar to us but bigger and stronger. they had fangs and eyes like beast and covered in fur. to this day you can find depiction of their faces in javanese or balinese wooden mask used mostly in their dance ceremony. and that's so similar to neanderthals you're describing in this video. i've heard of javanese mythology from my grandparents and my mom is an art teacher in middle school so they naturally know best about how their ancestor literally living with "neanderthals" that known as other names in javanese language like Buto Cakil or Rakshasha (you can even google that names)
edit : having non indonesian foreigner explains neanderthals known as buto cakil or rakshasha in our culture is wild man. firstly i thought they're not exist but people found their fossils.
This give extra credibility to Rama's bridge. He used an army of monkey men or men of the forest to build a bridge to attack the demon king of Lanka.
Modern day sri Lanka.
On the opposite end, the supposed demon king is sri Lanka's greatest king.
Rákshasa's were also in India and surroundings. They were extremely strong, and harassing humans (Homo sapiens). There was a powerful Rákshasa kingdom in Sri Lanka, destroyed in a big war by a monkey army (Homo erectus?) under the leadership of a divine Shri Ráma and his brother (Homo sapiens).
Man..... I'm still waiting on a Annunaki episode but maaaan..... the facts he points out in the fiction and the educational message in every episode makes this channel the best one I found in all my years on CZcams. The fact anyone is trying to tell you the real facts and truths of the evidence is rare. It's a blessing this stuff is free to watch at the moment.
He just posted one
Got one now, chief!!!!!!
The annunaki episode is amazing!
@@Azriel884 damn right it was!
@@kyle.1442This & the annunaki episode were literally the best
This episode was scarier than most horror movies. Someone needs to take this theory and turn it into a film.❤
A fake film like planet of the apes LOl! If you believe in this U dont believe GOD
The Flintstones
The quest for fire
Time Machine
I saw a trailer for a movie coming out that was called 45,000 BC or something. It looks like a prehistoric horror movie!
Hecklefish was on fire this whole episode. 🔥
More like annoying asf. Always interrupting at the most interesting moments with the corniest, childish jokes 🙄
How has it taken me this long to find this channel? The story telling was gripping and the way you ended it with the most logical approach to said theories, reminding us they are theories and what level they are currently accepted by the scientific community! Truly bravo!
Who else keeps reading WF? As WTF? when you look quikly lol
I did.
Long ago, when he started the Channel, I've always thought it was quite clever, since sometimes I say WTF while watching an episode.
You can thank how the WF logo pops up throughout the episode at the moments when your head is trying to wrap itself around what the ears just heard. The mind defaults to thinking WTF about the information it learned. Then the WF logo pops up and auto translates as yup, WhuddaFuh?
I'm pretty sure that's exactly why they used the letters with a question mark as their icon, because they knew people would see it and think WTF?
They could have used anything else, but chose to use the 2 letters and a question mark.. that's not a coincidence.
I'm pretty sure AJs wife Jen came up with that.
It's intentional, AJ has said so.
Is there literally anyone who when they found this channel didn't immediately watch every episode ever only to still wish there was more?
I got sad when I finished, but sometimes on a 2nd or 3rd listen, I hear stuff I missed, and they're still quite enjoyable.
100000%
I'm still going through them, nearly there!
I haven't gone thru all but I'm trying to slow down bc as a sahm I could listen almost all day while I'm cleaning, cooking, laundry ECT and makes it seem less like a chore
People who only like bullshit didn’t watch.
The description of the neanderthals sounds like the Morlocks from The time machine movie.
Omg yessss !! Maybe it was based on this there's a conspiracy theory he actually had a time machine!
That's exactly what I was thinking. Also, Eaters of the Dead kept popping up in my mind.
And Crichton’s ‘Eaters of the Dead’
As a red head I can confirm... we are crazy! This is officially in my top 5 favs!😊 Thank you for all your hard work.
I didn't want this episode to end... Please don't stop making these they are so interesting
I feel the same. Requires a whole series imo
Agreed! Fiction is a MUCH more fun ground to play in. ;D
It's AJ's storytelling that gives it the X factor.
See Campi Fregrei. We may go the way of Neanderthal soon. Only the "Elites" are taking precautions and building bunkers. The sun, too, is an extreme threat right now. Imagine NO electricity and living off the land to survive?
Same! I have some lingering questions! Did the Caucasian race emerge from Neanderthals mixing with Homo sapiens when the former migrated out of Africa towards the North? I'm curious because today's Europeans possess about 1-4% Neanderthal DNA.
I can honestly say that this is my favourite channel on YT, In fact, id say it's one of my all time favourite programs I've watched, ever. If TV channels picked programs like this up, then they might stand a chance of surviving. All I can say is, thank god we got YT and content creaters like this.
TV would never let this man do his thing
...they would change it for sure. The ruin everything

Same here just wish I didn't binge watch it when I first started watching, some are worth a 2nd viewing tho. 😊

I'm hooked on your channel now and I can't wait for each new video to be uploaded. Your storytelling is immaculate. Without a doubt my favorite channel on CZcams. Keep it up 😄
Wow that part about being scared of the dark resulting from thousands of years of being embedded in our DNA makes so much sense. Great story-telling as well. Subbed!
Now I’m even MORE afraid of the dark.
@@shimoarikiku7791 I dunno but there is always a fascination of the dark and unknown. Which is why we also enjoy stories of the weird and bizarre.
Nothing said in this video is even remotely accurate according to everything we actually know about neanderthals.

Add to that the uncanny valley. The fear of someone that looks human but not quite just add another level to it.

Chickasaw and Choctaw creation stories say we came from the ground (caves). They also have stories of the Lofa (hairy giant of the woods) and Iyaganasha (little people). The Lofa would chase game away and steal women. Your video fits very much in line with some extremely old oral traditions of North American indigenous peoples.
LOL You can find lots of ...cough..." North American indigenous peoples"...whatever that means...stories to fit whatever narrative needed. Since they, in the group meaning and not the Leftist meaning, did not have a written language, until meeting Europeans, how can ANY "Native" story be historically confirmed?
Way cool!
WOW
And many others from around the world. Our history is hiding in these ancient "myths."
Would you be able to tell us more about the Lofa? Does your tribe have any encounters with Lofa you can share? Thank you!
How have I not found this channel before! I'm obsessed 🥰
i pooped my pants
This is absolutely my favorite episode so far I mean I love all of them but this one stands out to me personally. I really hope to see another video like this one if not a part 2. Amazing. God bless
The picture you painted about the monsters in the woods and the community living together would make a great movie 🍿
There is a stone age horror film called OUT OF DARKNESS that will be released later this year but I agree we need more of that sort of thing and maybe less vampires, werewolves and zombies. It's such a rare setting and I'd love to see it explored more often.
Some movie with a time machine and a guy who goes to the past..I think it's from 2000's..
That'd be The Time Machine (2002), based on the novel by H.G. Wells. There's also an earlier movie adaptation from 1960. They don't go to the stone age but to the far future. But granted, the monstrous Morlocks from the book/movies are quite similar to predatory Neanderthals.
The 13th warrior is a film worth looking at.
"Prey", the latest Predator instalment is set in a Native tribe, "Caveman" with Ringo "10,000 B.C." and "Clan of the Cave Bear" are other examples.
A bit of a tangent but still in a similar area and one of the best films ever is "The Man Who Would be King"
I'm grasping here but "Iceman" and "Encino Man" have the time travel idea going kinda.
This story was amazingly crafted! We never miss an episode. I think I speak for us all when I say we want the Neanderthal/Bigfoot story! Don't leave us hanging!
Bigfoot story...yup...STORY
Imagine if big foots were just the few neandothals left
Couldn't agree more on all accounts. Yes, Neanderthal-Bigfoot connection please. Also, the Extraterrestrial Gardener angle would be interesting here too.
@emilywright3454 most likely possibility imho but I'm not a researcher just a dude.

First video, I watched of your channel.
I demand more videos like these. 🗿🔥🔥
This was probably one of the BEST episodes for me. Want more like this.
First, great video!
I’m a microbiologist, so this stuff is fascinating to me, and why I got a degree in this. A massively mutated chromosome #2 is what differentiates us from other primates. We have two chromosomes that fused and deactivated one centromere. Hence, we have 23 pairs and other primates have 24. For us to breed with Neanderthals means they had the same freak mutation. This implies divergent evolution from a common hominid ancestor, and that, while almost separate species, we were not quite separated. These timelines are, of course, a massive source of controversy. For example, we currently believe the Aborigines inhabited Australia 60,000 years ago and cut themselves off of the genetic exchange of Africa, Europe, and Asia. We have evidence that indicates native Americans displaced another race of humans that occupied the Americas no later than 35,000 years ago. I’ve also read several studies that indicated pre-agricultural early modern humans were far stronger than modern humans. It makes sense. Think. Let’s say Andre the giant and Danny devito are both farmers. There’s a lean harvest one fall. Who survives to the next growing season? I could go on and on.
Again, great video.
Wouldn’t Andre raid Devito’s stores or just eat him to survive?
@@theylookjustlikeus4364he’a a microbiologist so i guess he studied more than went outside because if he dis, he would have known that Andre would eat his stuff and let danny harvest his. When Andre finished the supplies, he’d go shake Danny for almost everything he got but still keep him alive for the next harvest.
Devito would survive, because he needs less food.
hey man , great comment, i appreciate you for throwing out your ideas , and I'm heavily invested in this so called bloody evolutionary theories , and since watching this video made me more excited about us as homo sapiens, your theory of native Americans showcasing another set of humans is also very exciting, can you please go in depth about it? Or more or less provide me some articles
Danny Devito would be very cold with his thin layer of fur compared to Andre for sure.
You didn't mention how modern humans/cro-magnons had one major advantage against neanderthals, and that was our ability to run long distance. Since neanderthals bodies run hotter, they can't run long distance without tiring out. To survive against neanderthals, early modern humans simply outran them. I'd imagine in those days they probably had some kind of early warning method in place like a scouting party or something.
Dogs maybe?
@@franciscopuerta7070 dog definitely.
Yes but makes perfect sense but eventually neatherals would figure them out and surround them and close in !!!
Most of this video is "theory" to complete fantasy. There is very little real science in it.
@@user-cf3yz1in9c Were neanderthals terminators? It reallz gives that vibe.
This is the BEST podcast !! Best YT video, except my beloved Nottingham Forest ! England 🏴 football btw x
Love your story telling as usual!!❤
Sometimes I think I’m a mature adult, but hearing Heckledish talk about “erectus” immediately disproves that theory.
Same here.
Yeah, our inner preteens gets to laugh sometimes too!!! :)

Its no surprise how quickly your channel grew. Your work is impeccable.
Right! I started watching when there were about 500 viewers. Keep up the good work, AJ!
This should be made into a movie with this new version of neanderthal! It would be freagin awesome. This dudes story telling is the best. Keep up the goodwork👍
Awesome episode,thanx for that

These are the very same rabbit holes i was digging into around 96 or 97. It's nice to see all this stuff i spent decades researching being presented in such a professional and entertaining manner.
The host is affable, and entertaining. Presenting even the most outlandish topics with respect. Hecklefish seems like a gimmick at first but becomes such an integral part.
I love everything about this. The only problem is I've binged everything, and now i have to wait for new stuff. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into this channel.
Based on
@@richardofredemption of course.
Same. If you haven't already binged it, give Beyond Belief Fact or Fiction a run through
@MrArtVein i watched that when it originally aired. I'm a trek nerd so at that time I was watching whatever Frakes was putting out.
@@richardofredemptionbased on… nothing but theoretical assumptions of a former TV producer / director 🤷🏼
Honestly, this is one of my favorite videos year and I’m surprised I didn’t see it until now! I would love to see more on this topic if you’re ever up for it and didn’t already cover EVERYTHING!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Best episode thus far! Third time watching. 😊😊
Holy moly what a ride this was! I was captivated from beginning to end. Thanks AJ for being so amazing, and sparking curiosity and fascination in all of us.
Praise the Why Files !!
Your description of neanderthals and the what if scenario reminded me of the Time Machine movie when he goes a millennia into the future and subterranean apish like evolved human creatures capture normal humans to eat them. Essentially farming humans like cattle. They were controlled by a telepathic leader who looked like a vampire necromancer. It was the time machine movie based on the book. Really good movie actually.
I thought the same
It jumped straight to the front of my mind as soon as he described them.
This is the best video on this subject. Most other videos make the Neanderthal the victims of modern humans.
I watch all kinds of weird & interesting stuff on youtube, but this channel is the best by far. And this video is the best yet... but I still have a lot to watch
I'm a SAHM in Canada. I get no time to myself , I never watch tv. But every Thursday I put the kids to bed early and watch Why Files and I LOVE IT. Thank you so much for validating all my " crackpot" conspiracy theories.
You and your team are truth seekers in an age of dis information, and you are appreciated.

This is by far one of the best channels on CZcams. You guys are going to have your own TV channel or production company or something huge in the future. The progression seems natural to me. Love you guys!
They need to keep it online - traditional media is dying, but between youtube and patreon, they can be as unique, inventive, and creative as they want to be. I do agree about the production company idea. If WF had the resources and time to help foster other shows with great potential and help them build a solid production, they could literally change the game for quality creator-owned/independent streaming content.
Best he can do is Tubi...
I was initially reluctant to watch this episode... But now it's probably my favorite episode. Lol! I've watched it several times 😅
That Wilt Chamberlain line was hilarious!!!😂
Mitch334 is absolutely right! I plan my day around the release of this channel's weekly episodes! This one was even better than most! Really fun and I learned a lot too (love that part). The format you use, first building a case for some concept and then putting a fact check on it, just wonderful, and like I said FUN!! So well done AJ. Yes please on the volcano stuff and do include the Yellowstone Caldara too? Maybe as a comparison? Just a thought.
Yes, Yellowstone eruption is allegedly due and my being east of it and downwind make me concerned. Would like to hear what AJ has to say about it.
Ya I’d love to hear more about the super volcanoes… I mean maybe love is the wrong word, but you gotta learn about the horrific possibilities, in order to outlast them. I can’t deny that Yellowstone scares the ever living dung outta me
This topic was so darn fascinating AJ! You should do the Sasquatch DNA/genome work that Dr Melba Ketchum devoted her entire career to. And this amazing qualified scientist was mocked and derided by the establishment community. Any way her work indicates an original human female mother and unknown primate male father please oh please do that very soon. It’s the natural successor to this fabulous episode! As always you guys rock!
Sounds interesting.
I'm going to look it up
@@edwardsanchez3708there’s quite a few radio interviews.
I second this emotion.
This is a sasquatch documentary just subtract Darwins racist ideology.
1000% agreed, you need to dive deeper into Sasquatch/Sabe/Bigfoot origin & Melba's research will guide the way. Please...
This sounds like someone read Genesis and turned it into evolution. Great video.
Please do an episode on Bigfoot and it's cousins from other regions. I know you've said you don't like doing cryptid videos, but even just presenting the legends, their various descriptions, abilities, modern stories, etc. is SO fascinating and fun. I love cryptids and their stories, even if their isn't much evidence to them they still carry many good tales and sometimes even lessons. Would love to see them more.
But either way even if you cover just Bigfoot as a possible descendent of Neanderthals, I look forward to it! Thanks WF team for all you do! ❤
AJ is definitely the most talented and original content creator on this entire platform. I hope people are paying attention. This is how it's done. This is true entertainment. Just on another level compared to everyone else. Keep up the excellent work AJ.
More epigenetic evidence that More neanderthal females breed with sapien males. From build bone structure connective muscle tendents stuff passed down primarily throw sprm
I agree
Come on bro, I love watching people get into cars and drive for half the video explaining how Lit and Epic everything is with exaggerated looks on their faces.
Yes, AJ is 👍👍👍There's another dude, Praveen Mohan. He is another genius, content similar but mostly on Indian temples, and also aliens & human origin.
@@yorkiesweetpea23thanks for the tip. I might have to check it out.
This show makes my Friday mornings just a little bit less miserable. Listen to it in the shower and then on my way to the office. By far my favorite episode.
Best episode yet! Looking forward to Neanderthal is Bigfoot episode.
Great story! I thought that neanderthal males were 5'4" at their tallest and females were 5' while homosapien males were between 5'7" to 6'.

This episode is SO insanely interesting. Talking about insane times... the more things change, the more they stay the same. Just keeps getting better... er, scarier. Thanks to you and all your crew. Keep it up!
We should be grateful...
Excellent topic and video! And yes, I would love to hear more about the overdue-to-erupt volcano! Thanks for everything the whole TWF team does for us, the viewers!! It is very much appreciated!
Looking forward to the Volcano Eruptions Video. I'm sure it'll be another really interesting show that looks at them from a different angle. Thanks WF.
This honestly needs to be made into some kind of short horror movie.
It boggles my mind why Hollywood is stuck in a time warp of re-doing old movies & shows. There is SO MUCH FANTASTIC NEW STORIES OF OUR ANCIENT PAST (etc.), such as you just suggested. What is wrong with those writers?
Definitely would fit great in the fiction category.
