Real off road videos for AWD cars, that is how they are supposed to be made, not by review number of cup holders or entertainment system, very well done!
Oscar Garcia this is a dumb comment. Not all reviewers are able to access similar trails and a lot of people want to know about comfort and convenience not JUST performance.
@@DJG333 some reviewers spend a little too much time talking about cup holders, and mot enough time talking about riding characteristics.
I only use my 19 cup holders to see how well I can drive up a dirt road without spilling a single drop of my 19 grande coffees.
@@DJG333 no offense but thats your own opinion sir. i think he nails perfectly my thoughts on ALOT of these 'reviews' that only show things things driving around in the city. most people who buy an AWD vehicle are wanting something that will take them through STUFF. confort and conveniance is something you can deduce in 2 seconds of looking at a vehicle. Me personally and many others, I dont want to hear what a car is 'designed' to do or 'should' do. i want to SEE what it CAN do.
@Dustin you wouldn't be looking at an off-road for any of that. Your reply is idiotic.
I'm just here for Karleena !
This is the best actual real world test I have seen so far. Sadly that deep of heavy snow would be a no go for most any off road vehicle even with chains and beefy tires, but at least the guy wasn't annoying like most people who do these types of videos and he seemed like he was halfway knowledgeable about the vehicle he was testing and with offroad driving in general.
Keep Karleena in your videos. Her laughter is infectious.
Galenda Wagen A wee bit harsh, don’t you think?
I really enjoy all of your reviews, but this one was both informative and just really fun--it doesn't get any more real than this when you decide to go off road in the winter months! Carleena/Karleena is a terrific addition and her positive energy combined with yours is just great--you alone are great but the two of you together are better. Well done!
Karleena was a great part of the test/review.
Please have her on more often.
Many of us buy these vehicles and have at least one passenger, so it'll be nice to continue to see how the ride affects them as well.
I loved watching this video! I just bought a 2019 RAV4 Adventure and this gives me a good idea at its basic capabilities (with some decent tires). Also, it was fun to watch with a co-driver!
It was fun to watch this video. It felt like I was there with you guys. I felt the same excitement what you guys were feeling
Hi DST, thanks for sharing! I just like to add that lots of people including yourself think 200ish hp is little but remember these cars are not designed to drag race and we all know off- roading need not tons of horse power. I used to owned a 1999 Honda Passport AKA Isuzu Rodeo with 205 HP and it was the nicest SUV i could afford then...went through snow, mud, rock, roots, hills without a hiccup. Thanks
Great video!! Finally some actual RAV4 off roaring. Keep up the good work guys!
I have a fever and the prescription is more Karleena. Her pleasant personality added so much to this video. Please do this again with a Subaru Crosstrek and Karleena!!
This is definitely the most in depth and the best representation of the capabilities of this SUV, Great job!!
Ryan and Karleena, your presentation is very professional and informative. I was on the fence with AWDs SUVs and thanks to your program, I can actually see the capabilities of this RAV4 TRD. I realize that this is not a rock crawler but it does have limited capabilities to travel through rough roads covered with snow/slush. And it appears to be quite comfortable to live with on long trips on paved roads. Thank you for a job so well done.
I love the adventures he takes these cars on. I've been wanting a Tacoma TRD Offroad for awhile just so I can do this, and not worry about completely writing off my old Subaru.
I bumped into your account today and I love your content from Kenya, Africa. This makes me envy the Amerian cars a lot since whatever we get here in Africa is usually used and low-grade cars. Looking forward to a time to visit and hopefully live there to just experience these machines and the snow. Thank you for your videos, goodbye Netflix.
Amazing car reviewer! I love how fluid your videos are. You are definitely up there with Kelly Blue Book review videos. Very underrated for how well you did! I instantly subscribed. Keep it up! You will make many more subscriber's with how well you shoot your videos.
Thanks for this on your expense. It's nice to find real put to test videos in real world scenarios like this and not just behind a testing controlled facility.
Love her attitude ! Nice co-pilot and great video showing the actual capability not just the on paper specs.
As an injury epidemiologist, I am happy to see that you finally took chains and used them. Remember when you put on chains, after a while of driving when on them to make sure they are tight as sometimes they might loosen up. Karleena looks like so much fun to hang with. She is amazing! I think you should have continued driving further!
This video reminds me of how the people you’re with can make a bad situation entertaining, fun and joyful.
25:28 beginning. I never tried chains on such wet deep snow. But in the same deep fluffy dry snow chains are the best option for my opinion even on 2RWD.
I love this review, keep up the good work. Going from Tahoe, Tacoma, and Honda Accord, all early 2000's models. This is what we are considering. We want the space, the mpg, and road freedom. Although, that last section made me consider whether the Rav4_TRD allows for aftermarket lift kits? Or other addons that cater to the offroad crowd.
I love your production quality. For a one man show it seems to professional!
Freaking love these off road videos!
Put Karleena in every video and I’ll watch!
?
You mean Carolina, not karleena.🤦♂️

I think the same 50% the positive in this video is watching her 🤣🤣🤣
I love the fact that she is loughing at the situation all along! lol
Great shit eh
It’s a great idea. But not enough follow through. I love the idea of a off-roader that gets great mpg and can be a daily driver. It’s just a little shy of being really good. It needed a frame little more lift and some guards and it would sell like hot cakes.
This is some real practical examples there. Great review guys 👍🏾.
Greetings from Africa (Ghana) 😊
As always terrific well done review that is very entertaining to watch as well as highly informative. Thanks for the great content!
Just saw this. Excellent! I am gonna have to give you big props for installing those chains. I have also installed those exact same ones in a snow storm and it is quite the effort. They do work pretty well in most conditions. It’s funny, other than the high mountain states and truck drivers, the use of chains is quite the mystery to people in these days of the ubiquitous AWD. But chains on a FWD usually do better than most AWDs with their all seasons. Again. Great job. BTTD was a little late in discovering this one.
That was fun to watch! Great scenery and trail!
Love these adventures u go on, so different from the usual
Great video; more videos with Karleena.
Nice vid but your co-pilot is awesome gorgeous. You should have more vids with Karleena!
Now, i want to see you take the subarau crosstrek through THAT and see how ti fairs. i always love your videos because you dont show just what a car is 'designed' to do. you show what it CAN do. would definitely like to see the crosstrek pushed to this and see how it did at that level of snow.
As a member of the Rav community I volunteer my XLE hybrid with all terrain tires to give the hybrid another go!
Congrats man you deserve it another great video!!
More Karleena, please. ♥️
Karleena made all that rain and ice disappear. Just subscribed 👍
I can feel the heat with this review.... :-) Nice one guys!
Thanks for fulfilling my request. You got a sub!
That was an enjoyable video and a good description of the rav4 trd.
You guys doing good job thanks for both of you
OMG Ryan you are rough on these vehicles! Karleena (sp?) is a real sweetheart/ and a great navigator! Plastic skid plates please. I love how Toyota is always on top and pushing envelopes in everything they do. From all the news I get from you guys looks like Toyota is getting ready to make allot of changes to all vehicles next year....something I'm a little Leary about. Looks like the Rav4 is going to blow away the Toyota 4 runner soon. Thanks for the reviews! CCC Austin, TX PS RYAN CONGRATS on 200K!
Best car channel on youtube. Expect your channel to keep growing.
Thanks for the response. Watching the 4Runner video now.
Great review! We are looking forward to driving the Rav-4 TRD Offroad in about a month
Nice review. Thanks!
I appreciated the instruction how the drive system functions. I have sat in this car while awaiting my toy to get serviced. For mild exploration on most public lands this is about as radical I would take this vehicle. Economy is really great, in that Jeep would be unable to provide similar numbers.
Good looking car.
Getting one's "toy" properly serviced while seated in your car has brought smiles to many faces.
I"m glad to see this---- WE GET that kind of snow here all the time--- (when it snows I mean)- we don't get the powder stuff.. and I wanted to see what they do in THIS kind of snow. Maybe I'll go for the 4Runner after all..
Looks like you're enjoying our incredibly wet winter here in the PNW.
Love the videos! Keep up the good work :)
"Snow Mode is designed to limit the engine and transmission for the purposes of driving on slippery surfaces such as snow. It helps limit wheelspin which can cause loss of control of the vehicle." It limits throttle, that's what you don't need on offroad.
For offroad you must use offroad modes like dirt, sand, mud !
Great video, Ryan! It really displayed what the car can do, as well as how far you guys would go before the return! It's a 10!
Always enjoy all of your vids !
Funny and very off-road video. Thank you!
Ryan's next video should be of Karleen's live reaction to reading the responses directed towards her in the comments section.
One of your best episodes to date!
Just test drove one of these. The on road manners makes this RAV4 one of the best driving small CUV’s that I’ve driven yet (road noise w/AT tires isn’t good but livable). I live on a seasonal road up here in Michigan. I’m looking for a good dependable vehicle with good ground clearance and all-terrain tires that doesn’t feel like a tank driving it on pavement. This RAV4 checks those boxes for me.
My two final choices were down to this or the new Subaru Outback, The CVT on the outback was the deciding factor for me. I’m going with the Toyota! Just waiting on my tax return so I can add to my down payment and I’m golden!!
The predicament I’m in, I love the look of the wrangler, height & big A/T tires but gas mileage as a daily, & price for what you’d get… the only thing about the rav4 is the looks, it looks tamed, smooth.
I should just go test drive em & see though
@@MegaGyalis I traded my Rav4 TRD in for a 2021 jeep Cherokee trailhawk . The torque vectoring all wheel drive that my RAV4 had is nothing compared to the four-wheel-drive system in my Cherokee. I’m taking a hit at the gas pump for it but I’m still averaging 25, with 31 on the highway.
Awesome video! Wish I had similar dirt roads here in FL
Never had to use chains on my 4Runner 😊. More Karleena please.
I think you just need experience driving on snow. Im from Canada and we drive that kind of road condition every year. I do have to say that the flirtation between you two were somewhat more entertaining to watch.
Love your reviews, can you do a review on the new Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD. Much appreciated
Enjoyed the video like the new copilot be safe
A well done review, thumbs up to both of you, Ryan and karleena👍
25:41 First thing to do is wait about 5 minutes and try again. Sometimes the snow can set up under and around the tires enough in that time that you can actually get some bite however that is with a normal 4x4. Not sure how it would work when the car decides it doesn't want to spin the tires. Great video.
Excellent video. Thanks
For $42,000 to be honest, I’d start considering a lower trim SR5 4-Runner 4X4 I think with the exception of MPG with the 4Runner you get towing, interior space, proper solid rear axle, proper low range transfer case, better approach and departure angles, overall a much more well suited vehicle for the job. You can theoretically get that for just under $40,000. Oh and the 4Runner is made in Japan! But good video, very informative.
Rav 4 is also made in Japan man !
@@bedrock111 not necessarily… I dunno where you live but the ones at my local dealer aren’t made in Japan…
Some Rav4 are made in Japan but the one I bought was made in Canada with no front toe hooks access doors....if had to do it again, I would op for a Japanese version.
She is a real true enthusiasth! I love her!😍
Congrats on 100K!
I tried the TRD RAV4 yesterday i was more than pleased with the shock system and the tires but i don't know if this reason is worth the 2,8k upgrade from the Trail version (adventure) in Canada
It would be great to see the acceleration on a snow comportment between regular AWD and Hybrid. I'm planning to lease one of them this summer but concerned about a snow, since we get a lot of it in Canada.
@drivingsportstv would you consider the new sport forester better than the Rav4 xle premium in snow conditions and overall performance?
Excellent style of review!
Great video!
How was the road noise inside on highway?
Did Lane keep assist worked in rain?
Does the gps map give option for face-up only?
It does it automatically when you look at the right screen in dual mode and coming to turn, but didn't see option to keep it that way. Main map.
I'm trying to choose between the 2020 Onxy XT from subaru Vs the RAV4 2020 TRD off- road, since driving both which would you say is more off road capable?
$42k for the TRD name and looks but not the performance? Nope. I'm with the guy that said get a 4runner sr5 premium.
Looked at some of these guys going for 35,000 new get the dealer to discount some more and it’s a go. Just sold my Tacoma and this will be my next vehicle, a good compromise for the daily driving most of us do 99% of the time. Plus it tows up to 3,000. My Tacoma 15 mpg in the city a huge factor in why I sold it.
You are crazy man 👊🏻😎 I love your courage 👍🏻🚗❤️
I work for toyota and was considering buying a rav adventure but now im reconsidering
Saw your favorable results review of the Subaru Foresterr Sport with X-Mode in deep snow and hill climb. Is seemed better than this high end Rav 4. Is it?
nice adventure! it reminds me when I tried Whittier in Alaska in winter with a Rav4 XLE stock. I complained a bit and had to come back
I have these tires on my 2015 RAV4, love them!
Got mine loaded just like this one the first week of December and I've put almost 4k miles on it, about 2/3 of which are highway miles.
Running the heat basically non stop here in Northern NY (~30min from Canada) and I'm almost always in ECO mode, she's averaging right around 23mpg. I've only taken her into a small sand area and a few ski resorts so far and she does just fine. Except when I'm messing around she has not slide in the snow yet. Toyota was having issues with the ability to start it from your phone which was a minor inconvenience in negative temperatures but it seems to be fixed now. Overall it's a great daily driver that has a small amount of off road capability.
I'm actually impressed with what it did considering it's basically an AWD car with AT tires, but at that price point Id expect more kit. Id just get an XLE
Just buy base awd and lift and add better tires. No expensive TRD gimmicks!
The episode I had been waiting for . awesome. Thank you.
Awesome!! Looks like fun!
I live in the pnw and you guys gained a new subscriber
need to make round 2 w/ raptor, w/ Karleen! same road!
Hmm. Thinking of putting the TRD shocks and springs onto my hybrid
I have a Toyota FJ 4x4 on 35s and I'm watching this Rav 4 video lol
enjoy your videos I would like to see the underside of the vehicles on the hoist and examine some of the parts on the underneath to see how well it is constructed
You should do this trail with the Forester Sport & Ascent, please!👍🏼👌🏼👏🏼
The 2021 model added a skid plate. Toyota doesn’t explain what effect the different modes do to the all wheel drive, torque vectoring system. Thanks for that demonstration and explanation. The 2021 model also has a switch that enables you to rock the vehicle back and forth to get unstuck. I haven’t tried that yet.
I don't think you would have to qwit . I have the same problem on my RAV4 2029 trail. If the snow is very deep it just won't move I have to beack up first and get some momentum I tried evening manual mode in first padal to the metal and only move a bit. I'm not sure way this is . It seems the automatic transmission is not allowing to move. Would you know??
You are an absolute maniac driving!
How would you compare this to the Forester for light off road? Adventure trim would save money and get it close to Forester prices. But, will the subie hold up past 70K miles without cvt or head gasket issues over the historical reliability of the Rav? Thanks.
I think you need to take Karleena with you more often. It was definitely more fun to watch that way.
Crivo152 - Karleena performed better than RAV4.
Whoa expensive rav4! Looks great, and capable. I would honestly just step up to the 4 runner, but compelling.
But 18 mpg 😞. It's meant for that but not commuting
