    Great job. Of course hindsight is always 20-20. After successfully diagnosing a problem it's always easy to look back at the process and see how the problem could have been found faster, but if the misfire was caused by something else which it could have been, then the approach you actually took may have been faster.

      Lots of things can cause misfire. my process goes like this. vagcom for codes, then vagcom in group 15 & 16 to identify specific cylinders. then group 32 &33 for fuel trim then other tests based on what I see.

      multiple cylinders misfire is sually vacuum leaks, bad fuel pump or something else that can cause misfires more than one cylinder. research fuel trim diagnosis. If you dont know what that means you probably need to just get it to a shop.

    Came across this video searching for hope on my Jetta I just bought. Did a valve cover gasket (changed nothing else, ran beautiful prior) now has the same thing happening. Autozone scanner said cylinder 3 and 4 misfire. Moved coils, switched harness plugs (ran worse) new Bosch iridium plugs (old ones seemed very black, was probably due anyways) then pulled plug for cylinder 4 while idling- no change to idle. (Also pulled plug on cylinder 3 and there is a drastic change) Pretty sure the same is happening. But find it a weird coincidence that it happened right after Changing vcg. I’ve pulled back the tape job on the wire harness checking for cracked wires (wires look Original) have found no issues down to the main split coming from beside the valve cover where it disappears into the abyss beside the engine. Doing compression test today to rule out that as well, but sounds like I’m in the same boat. Any input you may have would be great. I don’t have access to a scope like you have, is the control signal findable by an ohmmeter or anything else?

    2004 Jetta 1.8t here. Cylinder 3 misfire Code keeps popping up no matter what I do however the car seems to be running fine. Changed spark plug, swapped both the ignition coil and fuel injector with cylinder #2 however the code kept popping up for cylinder #3. Any idea what could keep throwing this code even if it's firing? Could it be a grounding issue for the ignition coil like I've heard or could it be the computer like in this case?

    I just dont understand why you took this approach. First thing I would have done is check the wiring diagram for that year/model and find color codes for that connector. You would have been able to certainly point out that the harness was indeed not the original one. Your reasoning for switching the connectors is not valid because again, you are making assumptions. Not good practice brother. Wonder how you 'fix' other misfire issues.

    I have a stage 2 modded Audi '04 A4 B6 1.8T. Last night I was out for a spin after doing a bit of work on the airbox, and trying to adjust the aftermarket turbo inlet pipe for clearance. At first the car ran fine, but boost was down a little. TIP may have been squeezed a bit by the headlight. After a couple pulls on the highway I hit the off ramp. A few mins later, it started running a little rough, and then got worse fast. I barely made it home. Now the car runs *extremely rough, and it's difficult to even keep it running. At first I thought I blew a head gasket or something, but there is no water in the oil, and I'm getting misfire codes on every cylinder. So I'm wondering where to start looking. The car went from running fine to barely chugging home in a *progressively worse fashion in a matter of minutes. Any ideas on where I should start my diagnostic search? P0300 code plus a code for every cylinder. ~thanks

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  Před 4 lety

      There are bunches of things to rule out. One thing though, head gasket can be leaking water into cylinder without contaminating the oil, it can also do so without steaming.,. if its a minor leak. Timing belt off one tooth, Timing chain from cam to cam off, vacuum leak, fuel delivery problem ect.
