Learn how to replace the ball joints in a Yamaha YFZ450R in this video from Partzilla.com. You’ll know it’s time to replace your ball joints when you lift the front of your ATV and you can feel play in the front wheel. Often, a cut in the rubber encasing the ball joint will allow dirt and other contaminants into the joint which will degrade it over time.
First, we’ll remove the lower control arm on the ATV, and then we’ll show you how to press a ball joint using a 1 ½ inch piece of threaded pipe as a collar while we push the joint out on our press. This method of ATV ball joint removal may be useful on your ATV, and prevent you from having to buy any special tools. Pay special attention to see how to pick the pipe to use for the collar. Once the worn part is removed, we’ll reverse the process to complete our Yamaha YFZ450 ball joint replacement. Using the pipe, we’ll press in a new ball joint, replace the lower control arm, and bolt it all back together again.
