A bit of advice on the spool stands: Make your roll unroll from the bottom not the top...it helps keep the center of gravity lower on the stand to keep it from falling forward.
Get a couple of easy rolls. If the spool is too big for one, you use two.
Big up Reuben! He seems like a keen young lad
It's called a pilot bit because it leads the way kind of like a harbor pilot who leads the way for a captain
I am following you since your first day, when you started this channel, I tell you what.., nobody would believe that you could have make such a big progress, amazing, keep going 👍👍👍❤
Same here, been following him since day one
I would love to learn about the lithium cell recycling process.
You should look at how the lithium is mined now that’s not exactly eco friendly… look into the battery swap on cars instead of charging them . Already massive in Scandinavian countries
@@makg4655 the battery swap? explain
@@4211234 just google AMPLE ( Ev battery swap station’s)
@@makg4655 no worse than copper?
@@pietkaify yip but copper is in greater abundance in comparison..
Before airline pilots we had maritime pilots (the word comes from ancient greek for "oar"). They're skilled mariners with local expertise who *guide* ships through harbours, river mouths, and other dangerous or congested waters based on their knowledge of depths, currents, and other hazards.
Yes it would be good to have a sneak preview in the recycling process of these batteries. We use these to power our electrical systems in the medium to large scale model aircraft we fly. Love this channel and all that work for you. It kept me entertained a few weeks ago when I went into hospital for a few days. 😊😊
Enjoyed that 👍
Nice one Jordan important to take the time to show Reuben the bases of drilling a hole correctly ,he needs exposure to the right way to do things then he can start making you money 👍
I clip cable ties with side cutters rather than flush trim bits. Not only is it easier not to cut the cable, but you are leaving a beautiful sharp edge for the next person working on it to find with their skin...
Super content guys and gals. This isn't something you see on a regular basis. Jordan and his team are the people to call when it comes to EV charging 👍.
You go boys that's definitely something I never saw coming keep up the good work
Nice to see some industrial footage again
Good to see some industrial work
i think that install needs allot more mechanical protection on the main tails
I wish all apprentices were made equal Rewban keen and wants learn, keep it up you'll go far !
17:45 ..... Jeez mate give Cory some privacy while he's doing that!
🤣
Great video, can’t wait for Part 2
Great job well done can't wait for part 2
For reeling off all types of cables, try the ‘Runpotec’ XB300 or XB500 system with multi function mandrel. Great piece of kit!
Can't believe he doesn't know of Phineas and ferb! - "Stupid Pain" I feel sorry for him :(
I was thinking of a pilot episode of a series, ie the first one. Other explanations that the smaller hole 'pilots' the bigger one make sense too. Interesting that it is an established technique, i retrained to be an electrician recently (in belgium) and couple week ago i used it without having been taught or explained:) Seemed like a prudent thing to do, instead of jamming the big one through right away. Didn't know about the angled drilling, that was nice to see. Hope there's plenty more Reuben teaching moments that we can all benefit from!
Have u seen the charging stations in Denmark ( I think but defo a Scandinavian county) where they swap the car battery in a few min rather than recharge them . They use the fully charged batteries to feed power back to the grid when not in use and then fully recharge them at times when it’s cheaper .. basicly a win win all round
I used the rack a tiers back over 10 yeats ago. Great system.
Looking good lads skills and professional drills
Pilot Bit guides larger drills to prevent wobblie. Also keeps the drill bit in line.
Good use of left over battery charge before they get recycled. I use two chairs and a metal telescopic tent pole that has double the strength for 350M shielded Cat6a spools.
Great video today !
I believe the use of pilot is from the person who steers the small boat that guides larger ships into, and out of, ports. This person is called a pilot, and I assume the use of that term for initial drill holes was that they are used to guide the larger drill bits.
Correct. Every harbour has a pilot boat. Small boat to guide large boats and ships in.
@@gordonmackenzie4512 Not quite. The pilot normally boards the larger ship and issues orders to the helm. The pilot boat doesn't guide the large boat in.
Yes, a pilot drill is named for maritime pilots - as in one who navigates a large ship through congested or hazardous waters.
@@cjmillsnun They USED to have pilot boats, generally a tug boat with a rope, as larger ships couldn't turn on the spot. Modern ships have bow thrusters, so the pilot can guide the ship in from the helm.
@@cjmillsnun yeah, you're right. It was after I'd posted that I remembered watching a documentary about Belfast harbour, and that showed a pilot boarding a bulk carrier out in Belfast Lough. I was getting mixed up with tugs!
The magic thing about cutting off cable ties is cutting off the head, rather than trying to cut through the ribbon. No chance of cutting through the cable. Your cutters wear faster but the cables don’t.
Bollards in the ground would be a good idea for protection
Nice job boys!
Great video 😎
Those Panasonic cameras did cost a fortune, back in the days! And they would hold a four hour cassette!
Interesting video as always Jordan. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 You really are making great strides with the renewables and prosumer side of things. One tip, ideally you should address that damaged base because in a harsh winter that damaged plinth will fail under freeze and thaw elements ( has happened to me twice) potentially leaving you with a hanging live charge point. Better to do it now before you get it up and running as it maybe a pig later having to put the charge point out of use imo.
Keep up the good work.
I'm gonna put it out there. I felt a little tension between Cory and Jordan in this one. Its like the video 6 or 7 months ago where it looked like Cory was going to quit half way through the video. (It's all good though, we all have them days at work).
@Dan Coleman Well it 100% had nothing to do with the 'you're working with me and we actually finished on time' comment at the end followed by 2 poorly edited cut outs and Cory still looking at Jordan like was was about to spear him 😂. If only we could have seen the un cut reaction.
😂 you a therapist? if they are breaking up, who gets Ruben!?
There was no need for that comment Jordan. The guys work hard and despite what you think... You're not God. Love the videos but you can come across as arrogant at times.
No one likes working with the boss
@@4211234 For me this is an easy one. Cory will have him on weekdays and teach him everything he needs to know. Jordan will take him on weekend and run through the basics like drill through wall and talk to him like it is rocked science. Ruben will hate the weekends with Jordan but the custody rules means he has no option but to pretend that Jordan is the wise one teaching the unteachable. See 18:36 - 21:00 for weekend custody example.
Love the video I also own the racka-tier same thing happens on larger cable drums so we are looking at the runpotec xb500 cable rollers check them out.
Go try out Wolfcraft silicone gun, it is so easy to fill those holes, they also have a kit for spreading the silicone
Jordan needs the changeable post at home, give ya house wall a break!!
Be aware that eating / drinking outside of designated areas (break / lunch rooms) my be prohibited in industrial settings due to the risk of ingesting toxic substances (i.e. the oily gunk on the armored cable). Remember, recycling centers deal with substances that are either too valuable and / or too toxic to just bury in a landfill. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 🇬🇧👍🏻
Thanks for the great advice
There is definitely some skill to cable tieing, especially one handed, where you cant see and in some really awkward spots.
Wow 🤩
Get that young man some work pants and knee pads. He will be glad of them
So what about the cracked concrete pedestal are they just going to cement the cracks? Good video cheers
its called a pilot dril cuz it guides the bigger dril bits :) just like a pilot guides a plane
Que bien graba y edita Nathan!
Si.. estoy de acuerdo 👌🏾
Doofenshmirtz - The literal translation of his name is "home ruler" (Heinz) "stupids pain" (Doof (stupid) + en (plural) + shmirtz (pain).
So?
@@justchillman104 did you watch the video?
@@justchillman104 @22:41
Tell Ruben to get some snickers pants and ditch the jeans lol. Great teaching there
Rack a tiers are the best by far 👌🏼
Most good
Absolutely fantastic insight!! Why did you not use a new concrete base that isn’t cracked??
We didn't have time to change it unfortunately
Pilot hole because it guides the bigger one in for landing?
Good question, never thought about it
Will you be installing the Zaptec Go anytime soon? In Scandinavia it is one of the main competitors to the Easee Home
Would be great to see a video explaining more about the recycling process, it would hopefully inform folks who are concerned about the transition to Electric Vehicles.
You should watch a video on the extraction of the lithium in the first place, especially in South America where they have vast toxic lakes/pools after the extraction.
@@acelectricalsecurity the whole point of recycling is that you don't have to extract it again. Better than the alternative, I don't see anyone recycling the oil the extracted.
@@PersonGamma really, they recycle plastics tyres etc all made from oil. Plus as regards recycling lithium, Tesla batteries are hard to recycle, which sounds about right for them.
@@acelectricalsecurity they don't make new tyres from old tyres. As with most plastics it's down cycled into aggregates and eventually burned for energy, very little is truly reused and recycled
@@PersonGamma car tyres are used in kids play grounds to name one example, plastic goes in decking, loft insulation and so on, so it does get reused, the majority of plastics in cars are also recycled.
You wouldn't have a battery car without oil, and the world is in melt down over covid, turn the oil wells off then see the melt down.
Yes if you or are allowed to show the basics of Lithium recycling would be great.
It 'pilots' the bigger drill bit through. Loved the install btw.
I always assumed it was this. Similar to a shipping pilot or a pilot light in a boiler. The one that leads.
Cory, why are you using a hole saw and not a Chassis Screw Metal Punch to make the holes for your glands in the metal work?
When a ship enters a port (or difficult to navigate waterway) a Pilot comes on board to guide the vessel. One definition of Pilot is: One who guides or directs a course of action for others.
What happened to that Greenlee hole-punch? It just takes too much time? One kind of pilot is the person who steers the ship in difficult areas, such as *harbors*.
Running cord is basically temporary power out here in the states
Pilot bit: pilots are the old-school navigators who guide ship captains through river channels. Your pilot bit guides the big drill bit. I am in Mexico. Here I use USA type electrical equipment, but construction materials are similar to what you find in homes - brick , rock , rebar, cement. Any viewer premium?
Just borrow some cable jack's from one of your suppliers, if you spend enough there and on good terms they will lend then to you, that's all I ever do.
Just from a quick glimpse of that place, it's your typical commercial installation, cables been lashed in over the years, one cable gets fixed, then everything gets hung from it, the grouping factor goes out the window in those places.
I always wondered if they discharge batteries before disassembly, some appliances leave as much as 1.2V in a 1.5V battery and consider it dead.
With the material on the wall which you don't know is. An asbestos check should be looked into.
Pilot is the navigator in nautical terms, and this bit navigates!
Why drill at an angle? Is it to protect the cable or something to do with cable bends or is it just easier to pull through?
Very nice👨💻👨🔧🍫🍫
Excellent vid, good to see you didn't install single phase unit on L1, hopefully you will explain in part 2 why you shouldn't do this when single phase unit are fitted along with 3 phase units.
I'm not an electrician, just curious as to why not L1 as surely the three phase is over all phases, so the single phase wouldn't be suitable over all phases?
@@Mr1997stefan When fitting a number of Zappi EV charger on three phase supply you have to make sure that if a number of car with only single phase charger hook up to them they don't all pull the power from only L1.
So if you install two 3 phase chargers and one single phase charger, you would fit the 3 phase chargers, the first one L1, L2, L3 the second one L2, L3, L1 and the single phase charger on L3, thus if three cars hook up the load is shared across all three phases.
Hope this helps.
The cable tie tensioning guns are so much easier to use, tightens and flush cuts with one hand. Brilliant with the metal ties too. Best tool from my BT days IMO.
still got my hellerman tyton one going strong .. bloody brilliant tool.. expensive but served me well over the past 15 years.. same as the stainless tie gun.. perfect
Crawley's in Luton 🤔
16:59 Proper lifting technique from Cory. Apprentices this is how it is done
With the discharge unit, is it sending its power down the commando and back into the consumer unit? If so it would need a socket and not a plug
Great video as always. Said before PPE don’t forget your lungs, silicosis is a real danger in the years to come.
....Hello and welcome to Artisan Angle Drilling Company... 😂
Pilot can mean a test or trial, like a pilot study ahead of a main piece of research.
It's a pilot bit for the same reason a pilot light ignites the bigger flame. I thought it was well known?
17:35 Jordan, you should buy Castor X-board.
3:42 good shout if its orange inside highly likely its asbestos
Saying Nathan the cameraman at 04:33 was like seeing a Hitchcock cameo in one of his films!
Really professional company💯🎉I love seeing your company grow
What brand are those ratchet cable cutters Cory used ?
Please invest in some decent work trousers with built in knee pads for the young lad or at least some strap on knee pads, protect the knees now instead of repairing them in years to come!
Is it me or does Jordan sound a little like Bear Grills when he’s talking about cable ties… 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Use an easy-roll next time, it is more stable than the cable roller that was used
Pilots guide from one place to another as does a pilot hole I guess
I need to know how Corey gets his hair to stay how it does. Mine just falls down and I can't get anything to work!
I would have arranged to have someone inside with a hose at the ready, so when Reuben drilled through and you took him outside to look- they stuck the hose in and turned it on full bore- cue overacting 'On no, what have you done!!!!'
But then I have a warped sense of humour.... ;-)
😂😂😂
Definitely in cawleyls luton
Why does Rubicon look like a H&S inspector 😂
How did you manage to shoot this in 4K on an old Panasonic film camera?
Cory looks like he is well versed at pulling his cable in the corner @17:46.
Why do I feel that Jordan is now Nick Knowles of Artisan..
Pilot adjective:
done as an experiment or test before being introduced more widely.
"a pilot scheme for training workers"
Pilot, guides you through to where you want to be. :-)
Re clipping cables not being skilled, any spark that has worked in shipyards would disagree. When I was in my first year in the training centre, as an apprentice spark, in H&W shipyard in Belfast, there was a lot of effort put into teaching us how to work out cable runs so that the job looked neat, as almost all cabling was on the surface. This meant we had to think about which cables would be going the furthest, so they would be on the bottom, we had to ensure the cable would be on the correct side of the run for dropping off at branches, etc. Bear in mind, we used single core cable for lighting & power (220V) circuits, so there could be a lot of cables in a given run, depending on where it was. We also had to learn to use a stud welding gun, as these were used to attach the clips for the cable (which we also learned how to make). No cable band or slotted tray for us!
i worked as an ETO and totally agree with you mate, cable management is an art form in itself
Yous need some cable jacks
How doe's a five star electrical company put a cracked base in... the slightest knock and it's going to be over
So how does "Sending electricity back to the grid" work - e.g. you've got low voltage DC. You're trying to shove it in to mains voltage three phase 50Hz AC.
Surely the only way to do this would be by way of a DC Motor, a phase aligned rotary generator, and some incredibly complicated servo equiptment to monitor the grid and keep the generated backfeed perfectly aligned? An inverter could never create a smooth enough sine wave for grid supply backfeed.
It is called a pilot bit because it is the furst bit that go through
