Your school will be very famouse, go ahead.
One hint Rueben - if your going to cut a bolt down or belting in an earth rod - screw a nut onto it first. When you undo it it acts like a die and cleans up the thread
Thank you for mentioning our product Jordan and for tagging our web site. Much appreciated.
I hope it’s helping to speed up continuity testing for you and the team.
Like the shout out to Hypervolt for their customer service & how they seem to be listening to installers (really like the template on the box!). Always great to know the companies that are doing a good job.
Yea it's good to see real companies caring about how they deliver
Jordan seems a really good boss. Prepared to listen to others and join in and have banter
Looking forward to the first Lee and Cory video using all the tricks of trade, angle drilling, tool of the day in every clip and big fat Nooooooooooice at the end of it all 🤣 good on Reuben aswell for getting stuck it and taking a real interest in the job and not shying away from things 👍
The ultimate one upmanship on your neighbours 'How many EV charging points do you have as we have 2'
The Rubenator is so confident. I love it!!! The Rubenator will definitely make a good spark.
Welcome to the team Lee!
Ruben is awesome...great guy :)
Floating terminal blocks is a no no. They need to be fixed or use maintenance free connectors such as Wago’s. Otherwise a quality install.👍
New lad has all the gear and all the idea, looking forward to more learning from you guys keep it up.
Great install to the Artisan above & beyond standards as standard.
I love a video where your remove awful installations and give them what they truly deserve.
Thanks! We love it too!
Great team work! Thumbs up! Cheers!
Hi as an electrical lecturer at a college, the issue is staffing, one, colleges have poor pay which does not encourage staff to join, two, finding good lecturers is another factor, being a sparks and teaching is a whole different world, a lot of good lecturers are leaving as they have become very frustrated with the system, the new lecturers that do start tend to not hang around very longer when they realize that they have to spend most weekends and holidays doing paperwork such as marking, and the amount of stress there is in teaching, I love teaching and the rewards you see when students achieve, While Ruben is waiting for a place I can help him out with training material he can self study so he is not behind if it helps, also will be able to give a bit of support online.
Would you also advise he does full time rather than pt.. ?? I say that cause it’s only like 2.5 full days and he can do the rest at work . After all u learn more on tools than college it would realy give him the edge and speed up his time in education.
Artisan has there own nick bundy now 😂😂😂😂
Haha no way cooler
😂😂😂
I thought it was bundy at first 😂😂
Great to see how you guys do things on the other side of the world. Awesome you tube channel, keep up the great work.
You guys will smash through 80K subscribers in no time at all!
Professionally well done.
Love that magnetic jump lead!
Also put nut to earth rod before hitting it with hammer. When you hit to nut you don't ruin threads.
Yep use a coupler with a bolt in it........
Apprentice placement issues, what we used to do is anytime the local colleges were short on placements we would get the exam schedule and the module plan and actually just teach them on site and have the apprentices read up at home. By the time they were in their placement they were already ahead of the class and the units, plus a couple of the colleges would allow them to just go in and sit the unit exams as a £50 exam is easier to get a placement for than a bum on a seat on day release.
Currently though it's lack of employers around here, and the colleges don't like taking unemployed people on because it effects the grant the government give if those training are unable to finish Level 3 and the AM2. Something like 10% for the end of first year, 25% for end of second and the rest paid out on completion, it sucks but it's to keep people to the end and fully trained rather than a revolving door of first and second years that leave without decent knowledge and skills while a college makes bank.
Ruben just as funny as Cory, sad about the collage news though but I'm sure you will get him a place close by

Hi Jordan, what about the comfy boots? Any link?
Link in description of the video
@@artisanelectrics ruben should go full time to college.. it’s only 2.5 days a week and get it over in 1/2 the time ..
I've had a few of those sheath cutters over the years. They work well.
The cable stripper tool is brilliant, but make sure you use it the right way around to prevent it slipping off (will just make sure you make a cleaner cut as you do the first 'twist' cut of the insulation.)
If you look at 13:26 , if you twist it clockwise, the tool will pull itself together whereas the way its being done above, the tool can be pulled open due to the cutting force.
I have no idea if I explained that well enough, but they are a brilliant tool :)
Edit: knocking in the earth rod with a hammer, if you put a nut on the end first, you are then hitting the nut rather than damaging the end of the thread meaning no tidy up work :)
Great video! Thank you.
6:12 this was a better B roll then Love island!
We used a similar cable stripper at BT, great bit of kit for circumferential cuts too. On ours the blade was self straightening with longitudinal cuts. A very underrated tool.
We use them here a lot in Germany, the other one is the tubular stripper which you can also find in the UK.
New guy bringing some good new tools. 👍🏻
and his own van and tools .. don't get this if you hire someone you should provide van and tools.a employer . Maybe he's not on the payroll but a subcontractor ..? I think John was also something like that ..
@@kittsdiy Cory had his own van in the early days. Jorden orders everything late 😆 apart from branded shirts
Need to know where I can get one of those jump leads, will be a real time saver, and also get rid of the risk of forgetting to tighten a cable back into the breaker once it’s been removed for testing
Do it! I can’t imagine better equipped apprentices entering the workplace.
Brilliant video !! All the best for Reuben to get a place in college :) we need artisan college
Welcome, Lee great job all of you.
Thanks
14:34 I thought you needed to use an interlocked commando in a domestic environment as the sockets aren't shuttered, or is that just a recommendation?
Great video today !
Can’t wait for Ruben to launch his own company, I’d suggest Fartisan Electrics as a good name.
🤣🤣🤣
Great video, and looks like you have another cracking electrician.
Great job Team 👏👏😃❤️❤️❤️
I'm an IT manager and we cannot get apprentices at all in the North East. Really struggling to find the dedicated like Rueben, keep up the hard work buddy, it'll all pay off in the end.
Nicely done 👌🏼
Nice team ... good job.....good luck...🤗🤗🤗🤗👨🔧👨💻🍫
nice! jordan has good taste hiring super sparks, all of them are good looking 😍😍😍😁😁😁
Here in the us in my area at least you can't get on as a apprentice if you don't have that electrical certificate. I spoke with a instructor and he gets phone calls all the time from local companies wanting good apprentices, so that's why I signed up and begin classes this fall.
Did someone say we have an issue in the apprentice system? :)
We have a massive issue of not enough employers and over subscribed college places. Many in college without employers.
Lots of lecturers working really hard in impossible circumstances to help. Especially during Covid.
Sadly until people experience this is not important. Its not a sexy part of the industry and the hard truth is not enough are really interested. To the point Elex dont want unemployed young people attending.
We all turn our backs and the fire burns behind us.
The result sadly is exactly what you and Rueben are experiencing.
Some introduction super sparks Lee but not just Lee. Its Lee with super powered pencil behind ear ready to ROCK.YEAH
All of are satf are really good mate keep up the good work on here here mate
Super!
Lee is the ultimate sparky geezer
Great video 😎
I think the thing I was most impressed with, was the fact you tidied up after yourselves. I was under the impression that training to be an electrician included a syllabus dedicated to leaving crap everywhere 🤣🤣
😁👍 it’s one of our customer promises
That's builders usually stuffing old copies of The Sun into spaces they think no-one will ever find them e.g. rafters and floor voids. Ground workers are very similar since they can bury the evidence (or so their small minds think)
I had the same problem trying to start a part time level 2 electrician courses
Hi Guys really enjoyed your video as always and welcome Lee
That coat on Jordan looks like he's a 10 year old who borrowed his dad's coat. Just joking, great video as usual.
LOL THANKS
Ha, ha, ha. Truth!
Finally a left hand sparky 👋from Malta
👍
So Reuben will be starting the rival Artisanal Electrical?
I just done the level 3 ev course and can’t believe what people are doing !!
Artisan college is a good shout rubz is a good kid he will make a fine electrician do it Jordan
Great video 👍🏼
Thanks
Nice video, would be good to see/hear more about the load balancing capabilities of the Hypervolt too. Looking forward to the factory visit. Agree that's really poor that someone keen like Ruben can't get a part-time college slot, hopefully someone watching will be able to help out...
This happened to me 35 years (1984)a go wanted to do a city and guilds in wiring not domestic but what you mite call panel wiring. IE the stuff that goes in planes or test equipment but 6 weeks before I due to start they stop it and move the training courses about 50 miles away did drive so did do it. Got lucky and got a job locally and got on the job training mainly from two great people who must have see something in me that I wanted to learn what they taught stood me in good stead all these years later.
probably not a big market for it yet, but I guess we’ll start to see single charge point ‘terminals’ with two output cables soonish? with load distribution between the vehicles
Yeah it's the same for me in my local area there is hardly any apprenticeships for electrical there is plenty in other job areas but when you have lower grades the just decline you and don't want to know even if you can do it.
Very good video
A big welcome to Lee! Hopefully something can be worked out for Cory's son Rueben, or is he your grandson.... lol - he sure deserves it. A huge thumbs up Jordan from here in Aus. A suggestion Jordan - put an "our team" page on your web site. That way there's a slight chance we'll learn how to spell everyone's names! lol.
Haha ok good idea!
OMG cardinal sin at 16:58
That cable is top entry!
Water will get in.
No it won't, that's an IP67 seal
It should not .. gland should be watertight .. but i alway feed on the underside if i can ..
Hope it gets sorted out for Ruben!
It's Nick Bundy's younger brother :-)
I am struggling to get a apprenticeship aswell, I got the college place but can't get the apprenticeship. Great video mate keep it up always love the content 👍!!
Come on Cory ! Lee will be taking your golden boy status
Great video lads.
Thanks!
Great work again guys. Do you have a link to the cable you use for the Hypervolt? Have a project in work that needs a combined power and data cable 👍🏻
Its interesting that Jordan criticises DB’s in meter box but is happy to tamper with the meter. There is no excuse for not getting an isolator fitted.
And still installs his own Switch Fuse in the meterbox
You're correct, I've been in this game for 33 years, you've been in it for around 20/25 I'm guessing? when I was training there were 5 classed of 30+ students per class. The last year I was in the UK there were 20 kids in one class, lecturers told me the interest was now in the Computer industry, so there will be a shortage at some point, maybe now there's more interest to get on the tools and do some manual work.
Reuben's nickname should be "Boxer" cause he got a Box O Biscuts instead of wages.
Any collage would be made up with Ruben.
Even though they aren’t super great sometimes have you considered paying for him to smash out a 16 week course then go for nvq3 assessment based on work experience in a few years? Hope he gets something soon, apprenticeship was really good for me.
I did my apprenticeship (college side of things) with a company called JTL not sure if they are round your way but worth a look.
Hmm, boxed in tails on the outside wall looks a bit naff, not gonna lie. Armoured or split concentric and P clips would look a lot better.
Let's face it ruebuen has the potential to get a full time job with you and will learn more on the tools then at college ,so when he does get a place will be able to show the lecturer how to wire a ev point 😂👍
And how the angle drill and eat Pringles
0:41 If your going to wear these cool looking coats, you need to have a Artisan Electrics corporate ID card in the jacket ID window. Need to have a cool design with your picture on there! 😁😎🍺
Where are the coats from?
I'd have used a length of armoured instead of those tails in trunking on the external wall.
The part of them between the trunking and the meter enclosure is at risk of UV degradation, impact/abrasion, vandalism, theft.
With this in mind, at minimum I hope you put a 30ma RCD in that switch fuse box.
Then I see cables just draped over the boiler flue and right next to heating pipes.
I thought you were better than this. Too much focus on your personal appearances and not enough on the job.
I was thinking the same never in my life have I seen tails clipped surface like that. I know they mentioned it was temporary but still very dangerous imo
As someone studying part-time, would love the Artisan gang to start a training centre. Need practical training centres for someone like me who’s struggling to find work experience in the trade.
An enjoyable video and commentary but surprised you didn't use wago connectors in the wiska box. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
We didn’t have any 6mm wago connectors otherwise we would have
Great install and great product, cheers guys 👍
Thanks a lot
Great video. Why is it not good to put a consumer unit in the outside meter box? Getting a Hypervolt installed next week (thanks to your 1st video on Hypervolt) and think the installer is putting a consumer unit in the meter box. Thanks
A little story for you all. The 1st time i ever saw a small consumer unit in a meter box was when i was watching Jordan from Artisan Electrics install a consumer unit in a meter box. He even posted it on you tube for everyone to see. Then would you believe it, about 1 year after he made a new video turning his nose up at people who put consumer units inside the meter box.
Haha that’s actually true, I learnt the hard way from that video that I shouldn’t have done it. Haven’t done it since! You live and learn.
@@artisanelectrics I'm not going to lie, i actually thought i was a great idea at the time. I have never done it myself but that is purely because it was never needed in my installations and then i found out you are not supposed to do it. At least you now know i am a loyal viewer.
I am about to have a charger installed and have been told they will fit an A Type RCBO in my meter box. Is this acceptable or not? Thanks
@@maxrhodes1213 The DNO + suppliers say no it is not acceptable but as far as i know, there is no regulation against it.
The story is that the supplier can ask for the consumer unit to be removed if they can not upgrade any of there own equipment in the meter box. (In the future)
Or in extreme situations 'apparently' they can disconnect your power until it is removed. (Personally i would take that one with a pinch of salt)
I never install a consumer unit in the meter box because it is a bit of a grey area.
But like i said, no one has ever shown me a regulation saying that his is not acceptable.
Hi great videos. If so, What hardware do you think is required to enable electric cars to power your home? Ie use as a home storage Battery.
So frustrating about the college situation for Ruben!
Totally 😢
I feel his pain, everyone deserves to be trained.
@@artisanelectrics have u tried full time ?? Would defo be quicker and it’s only 2.5 full days ..
16:30 that makita drill is also an hammer drill btw
Them connector blocks in that wiska box is ruff as toast jordan
It's all down to your DNO I know Northern Powegrid allow CUs, switch fuses the likes etc in external meters cabinets as long as there's adequate space for there equipment
I do like that link. I’m guessing he got the job after you looked through his tool bag?
Might want to GPR test the ground first!? What if he hit a gas or water main etc 😬
Probably highly unlikely in that area but you never know!
Have you any link to the mentioned report on the number of cu’s installed incorrectly into the meter box. Thank
Carnt see many of these being installed in Kirkdale or Bootle somehow 🤣🤣
Hi lads, great video again! I’m curious to what music was used at 13:10?
6:22 Hello Lee 😎
Couple of things. Enjoyed the video, thanks for that. Where did you get the magnetic earth lead from? Secondly, on here, there are some comments with replies but when you click on view reply, you just see a gap open, but no comments visible. Presumably this is CZcams problem?
Was those tails from the meter to the CU , completely unclosed in trucking, ? I'm taking about underneath the meter box were there exit.
Great video as always! How do you guys calculate maximum demand when installing EV chargers? I'm finding it a nightmare to calculate realistic figures from the guidance in bs7671
They take 32a. Always upgrade a domestic main supply too 100a main fuse and 25mm tails and you should be fine in most households. If unsure use current monitoring.
