Black gram / Urad dal (ഉഴുന്ന്) - 2 Cups (400gm)
Ginger (ഇഞ്ചി) - 1 Inch Piece
Water (വെള്ളം) - ¼ Cup
Shallots (ചെറിയ ഉള്ളി) - 10 Nos
Green chilli (പച്ചമുളക്) - 2 to 3 Nos
Curry leaves (കറിവേപ്പില) - 2 Sprigs
Salt (ഉപ്പ്) - 1½ Teaspoon
Asafoetida Powder (കായം പൊടി ) - ¼ Teaspoon (optional)
Crushed black pepper (കുരുമുളക് ചതച്ചത്) - 1 Tea spoon (optional)
Cooking oil (എണ്ണ) - to deep fry
