I retired from Amtrak in 2020 after 30 years, and can tell you this is nothing new at all. The very reason such huge amounts of drugs are ferried is because there is NO security; Amtrak has its' own inept and corrupt Police Force (The Amtrak Police) and they are worse than Reno 911, but they're not that funny. However, most drug couriers rode in a private room instead of in a coach seat. This shows how fearless they are getting because they don't even seek the privacy of a Sleeping car.
@ gc63 - Wow! Very telling comment. I absolutely LOVE trains, always have, but AMTRAK killed my love for trains years ago with just plain stupid and inept service. I would love to "go back" , but I need UNLIMITED food ( come on, I won't eat THAT much ) in exchange for that pricey bedroom ticket and for that, I get hooted down here in the comments. It is really sad . . .
I remember the whining a few years ago when DEA Agents would get on the Southwest Chief to bust drug mules and passengers carrying large amounts of cash.
@ ph 94 - Do not worry, the DEA is profiling black guys at Atlanta airport and shaking them down for their cash, hoping to find drug dealers . . . lawsuits to follow . . . .
True. Anyone can ride without security screenings. Amtrak has rules and regulations but it doesn't enforce them, doesn't check anyone's belongings. I took the rail pass from south towards northeast part of the country last month as my first Amtrak train ride, and I was in disbelief about no security checks, not what I expected. I got nervous but I could only calm myself down and pray for safety.
It's not fearless, it's stupid.😅
This didn't make national news. This story popped up on my CZcams feed as a recommendation.
Same here!
Same here
I had similar experience on a cross country on Amtrak.
He was pacing saying he was going to kill some people.
He thought I was asleep and I slid out and reported him.
Next stop here they come with a German Shepherd and yanked him out of his seat and threw him down the stairs while the conductor carried his bag.
Pretty scary.
Oh my…how long ago was this? Area of the country?
@@barbshubert9667 new Mexico i think.
_MACHETE_ attack - on an Amtrak train? You just cannot make this garbage up anymore!
People are going insane in this country and the news is just keeping us calm as we watch our country burn it’s crazy.
I love Amtrak but expressed concerns about the fact there's no metal detectors. Anyone can smuggle anything. It's unsafe and even kept me from traveling sometimes. I will never forget when an unhinged woman threatened to "spray" the entire train cart. I hope Amtrak rethink its safety policies and implement metal detectors.
Thing is outside the NEC Amtrak is an afterthought barely used
Lol - I read that as "mental detectors"

When I lived in Albuquerque I never met more people who had served time in prison for drug trafficking. They don't play there
The residents play there but the state officials don’t play. Who gets it worse ADW or drug trafficking????
I came back from Reno on the Zephyr in August and out by Elko, there was a fight, one guy was locked up, and then I smelled marijuana in the coach car, and another guy was detained. Amtrak does not mess around - you will be prosecuted. Both men were young and white.
After I heard about these incidents, I changed my reservations to all private rooms. This will be my first train ride. I’m praying it’s uneventful.
@@barbshubert9667 I might have to do that now damnit.
what does their race have to do with anything?
@@neckarsulme i understand why they said it, because people always assume race when something bad happens
@barbshubert9667 amtrak is luxury compared to greyhound. You'll be fine.
My rides across NM on Amtrak are quite tame by comparison. 😂
The meth guy got attacked?
Yup
The guy who committed the Big Mac Attack (3:08) is sure enjoying his hamburger. :/
At least there is one good thing that came from this horrible stabbing . The victim won’t be delivering those deadly drugs to potential customers.
My sentiments exactly!!!
The comment I was looking for😂
A super job of reporting such a gruesome event!
what? this is crazy behavior
who are these people????

Love them exciting Amtrak stories. Rare to see such a nice, lengthy, professional crime news story.
oh..crime news are nice? what if you were the victim? nice, well....
It's a different world. We are a different people.
I haven't been to a shopping mall in years.
I don't go through drive throughs.
I stop at lights and stop signs with plenty of room to evade an attempt to assault or obstruct me.
I am at wall Mart periodically but I will not stand in line with less than 8 feet between me and others.
Sounds crazy right? Well, perhaps it is crazy but we are not sane anymore.
It's not Rocket Science to know the Decrease in Christianity = an Increase in Violent Maniacs running around hurting people.

Good thing they have laws to prevent weapons on board or someone could have been hurt!
I'm not sure about that. They definitely don't check. At least on a plane, everybody has to go through a metal detector. 🙂
btw, you need to look in the 21 foot rule. Meaning, if someone is close enough to kill you with a machete, they are MUCH too close for you to shoot them. They train you on that in the military and police (I was USN).
At that range you really need either a western hand to hand combat system such as Marine Corps Martial Arts or Western Boxing, or an actual martial art such as ITF Taekwondo or Karate or Filipino Martial Arts (Arnis/Eskrima/Kali). You're not going to have time to draw a firearm at that point.
Check out the video on here (we can't put links, would if I could), "too close don't underestimate the knife", it's a police training video. The Filipino-American guy you see in the video with the knife is Dan Inosanto, a guru (that's his rank, "guru") in Filipino Martial Arts, which is famous for its knife fighting techniques. He was also Bruce Lee's best friend and is a master of Lee's martial art, Jeet Kune Do, as well as being a veteran of the 101st Airborne.
Did your mother have any children who lived?
they do not have laws like that
@@duncanholden2826
"they do not have laws like that"
Yes, they do. You CANNOT come on the train with a weapon on you.
If its concealed, and they find out, you're fined and kicked off.
You can have one IN YOUR CHECKED BAGGAGE but not with you in your seat/room.
Again, on Amtrak's web site, title "Firearms in Checked Baggage":
"All firearms (rifles, shotguns, handguns, taser guns, starter pistols) must be unloaded and in an approved, locked hard-sided container not exceeding 62" L x 17" W x 7" D (1575 mm x 432 mm x 178 mm). The passenger must have sole possession of the key or the combination for the lock to the container. The weight of the container may not exceed 50 lbs/23 kg.
Smaller locked, hard-sided containers containing smaller unloaded firearms such as handguns, taser guns and starter pistols must be securely stored within a suitcase or other item of checked baggage, but the existence of such a firearm must be declared.
Firearms/ammunition may not be carried in carry-on baggage; therefore, checked baggage must be available on all trains and at all stations in the passenger's itinerary."
@@duncanholden2826 It is illegal to take weapons on Amtrak, it's a federal law but that did not stop this attack!
What dumb luck for a drug trafficer, being the random victim of some knife weilding loonatic.
These stories are getting more bizarre every day.
at least he got free McDonalds....
That's a funny joke.
Guess who is going to spend more time in jail ... drugs or stabbing?
It is kind of hard to "stab" someone with a machete. A machete "slashes." And the witnesses are saying it was a knife, not a machete, and describe stabbing. So why does the news call it a machete?
To attract more attention
What was the full story on the attacker? Was he apprehended by other passengers, or did he run and tried to slip away at the next station stop? Does the attacker have a criminal history?
He has a criminal history.
BLM doesn't like all those questions
Ben Crump will be giving details at a news conference on behalf of the attacker in a lawsuit against Amtrek.
U saw that they accosted him w/food!
Police should check the baggage car once in a while. Half of the bags onboard are full of drugs and drug money.
Not all Amtrak routes have baggage cars anymore
How do you know "Half of the bags onboard are full of drugs and drug money." Are you telling on yourself??
why the hell are they feeding the attacker?....
Common interrogation technique is to put them at ease..give them even a remote sense of normalcy and security. Not only do you get more information, but you get BETTER information.
uh, prisoners have rights. And, he's innocent until proven guilty
There are laws against starving a person until he gives a confession.

Amtrak is the federally sanctioned American train passenger service provider. Federal charges for certain for non-blessed drug runner. Correct turn there… Took the Southwest Chief through Albuquerque in mid-2011. Looney Tunes story!
The lord works in mysterious ways 🎉
2:48 Back in the old days, you could board an Amtrak train from that station to Las Vegas, Nevada, but Union Pacific Railroad pushed the track rental fees from Las Vegas to south central California so high, that Amtrak saw it was impractical to provide passenger train service to Las Vegas. You can still board an Amtrak train from Los Angeles, California to Barstow, California, though. B.N.S.F. (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) owns the tracks between those two cities.
Thank you for sharing this info. I had no idea. Maybe I’ll check it out to avoid the drive back and forth.
thats why they are looking at building a new high speed line between LA and LV..except a line already exists, i expect freight makes way more money then passenger hence the higher rates even more now as the panama canal is restricting ships due to low water and they are going to ports in Long Beach and LA and east by rail, containers
@@lutomson3496 its less of freight making more money and more that the companies that own the track ONLY do freight, as a result they're giving their traffic the right of way every time.
and there you have it. CORPORATE GREED destroyed the rail service.
i.e. the railroad monopolies killed it as they shifted investments into the airline industry. They re-routed tracks all over the country and ridiculous time tables to discourage train travel.
@@lutomson3496
"thats why they are looking at building a new high speed line between LA and LV."
Bear in mind, private industry is doing that with their own money. That's not an Amtrak project. It would be private transportation, like American Airlines or Greyhound. 🙂
The company is called Brightline. Same company that does a train in Florida. 🙂
3:51🤣🤣🤣 cant even make that shiiid up
Could’ve been worse. Remember the beheading on the greyhound bus!
😮😮😮😮😮
It will only be very soon before the TSA get involved with passenger train service.
Uh, I’m sorry but when I’m on an airline, I’m pretty damn sure no one in front or behind is carrying a machete. On Amtrak, there is no TSA and no carry-on bag scan.
Indeed. "Railfans" act like it's a feature that there's no security on Amtrak. No, it's not. It's not a feature. 😲
There will never be TSA type screening on Amtrak. It might be possible at a major train station (like Los Angeles) but most stops are on open platforms, and may only be for a couple minutes. What can you do? There might be 30 stops between L.A. and Chicago, where there may only be a few passengers boarding or leaving, or a hundred. Amtrak might cease to exist if screening had to be like at the airport.
Amtrak needs TSA style security checks badly. I rode from Chicago to New York a few times. Neither Union Station or Penn Station have security checks beside the occasional Amtrak Police with bomb (drug?) sniffing dogs. It's kind of crazy you walk right on the train with zero security checks....
should they be in buses as well? How about shopping malls, subways, Starbucks, etc....@@hansonel
@@neckarsulmeIf a madman is in Starbucks or in a mall you can at least try to flee. On a bus, the driver can stop instantly and passengers could disembark. But on a train like a plane you are pretty much stuck in place while the carnage happens all around you all the while you are hoping you don't get it.
What! So disappointed. No one said: "it was just like a movie." Even this plot twist is unbelievable.
Get these F****ing MF machetes AND drug couriers off my MF plane!
Train, in this case
@@R.Oates7902 So you are NOT aware of my movie reference? Got it.
@@aburden8580You didn't even have to see that film to know it's a Samuel L. Jackson rant from Snakes on a Plane. 🤭
@@Kitty8791 But was it a rant, really?
Or just an explanation? A description. A report.
I didn't see the movie myself.
Yeah, I bet a lot of people know this reference. (Socrates not so much)...
@@aburden8580 Based on the trailers & promotional interviews, I'd say Samuel L. Jackson delivered some classic profanity-laden rants.
Btw - there was an awesome marketing campaign where you could provide some specific information (mad libs style), then Samuel L. Jackson's voice made a personalized robo-call to the person you designated. Advanced stuff for 2006! It was eventually overwhelmed so they took it down.
Do you think Socrates could have prevented the drug trafficking or assault w/ machete? Influencers likely recognize some of his quotes from when they search for meaningful things to post alongside their filerted/edited images. 🤣
And so NM what have we learned? That even the train is used to transport drugs, in this case, had the victim not of been stabbed, he would of reached his destination. This means the train is being used by CARTEL BUSINESSES to move easier between cities, these mules are CARTEL BUSINESS members OR unsuspecting Americans being paid to transport while ostensibly on a vacation, like airlines!!
If someone pays you a lot of money to carry a bag through the airport or on the train, you're not an unsuspecting victim.
Yep
We don't have a civilized country anymore
this actually a report fill with actual facts and content.
This is why i never ride in coach, always spend the extra money for business class.
Same.. I don’t mess with coach. It’s either business class, or roomette ( for long distance) for me. 💯☝️😎
The coward with the drugs should be charged with attempted murder for transporting poison!
🤣 Whatever you say Matlock.
He didn't give any of the drugs to anyone who had died or got sick. There IS NO VICTIM that he INTENTIONALLY tried to kill. Therefore, no attempted murder charges.
Great to know that amtrack has ZERO security in the way of checking bags...I won't be traveling amtrack... that is for sure.
Even if they did the service is slow, unreliable and infrequent and utterly useless
Nice how the police just freely provide video of witness statement to the media.
I thought it was ILLEGAL for you to carry weapons on Amtrak. Like air travel. In Chicago you have to go thru a search, just like the airport.
Sweet Jesus, MURDER is ILLEGAL, criminals don't care!
People are getting so stupid it's frightening.
Self-defense items are prohibited, but I have never experienced or seen any searches at all. They don't even check your id, just the ticket.
"I thought it was ILLEGAL for you to carry weapons on Amtrak"
Not sure, I'd have to look it up. They definitely don't check at most stations.
"In Chicago you have to go thru a search, just like the airport."
They should do that on all mass transit. But most Amtrak stations don't have any metal detectors or anything like that. Good that Chicago does.
There is literally no way to effectively do this on trains. If there is a massive "Grand central station" type of area like in Chicago, then yeah sure they could do it, but considering most stations are literally nothing more than a concrete slab on either side of the tracks that are rarely staffed by anyone there's no feasible way to do security checks.
@@Mike__B
"There is literally no way to effectively do this on trains. "
I agree, but it's just another reason why we can't replace aviation with rail. It's a bug, not a feature.
HSR in Europe and Asia, generally speaking, has no security screening either. And they can't say it's without incident. A few years ago, a guy got on the TGV in France, with a firearm, intending to start shooting people. They were saved because a few US Marines happened to be on the train, and they subdued him.
So yeah, you WANT the security screening, and it would make the process of boarding trains slower.
I ride amtrak regularly and have said that they need to have a security check like other forms of transportation
like cars?
Is there no place safe in Merica anymore?
People have been killing each other with swords for thousands of years. There's nothing new here.
It never was
I am not meaning to belittle the situation and the injuries and the anxiety all the passengers experienced. But since this occurred near Albuquerque, was there a Ghost named W. White around? 🙄
such nice cops buying the suspect a happy meal...did they remember to buy him desert and cigarettes as well? LOL
Why was the attacker carrying a machete in the first place? Of all weapons to carry.
Doesn't need to be loaded, works at close range, etc.
Still, mass transit needs security.
A Miami Brightline style screening could have prevented this.
Miami brightline is a frequent and useful service. This Amtrak service is a once a day useless tourist attraction. Big difference
kids DONT do MACHETES !
Ban machetes knives and cars. Come on man
Machetes and knives can't kill large numbers of people from long range, cars are not designed to kill. Come on man.

When I travel by Amtrak I get a whole sleeper car. Yes it’s expensive but I feel safer. Not all can afford it. I think people traveling on Amtrak should have to go through Metal detectors and have their luggage scanned. It should be no different than boarding a plane.
There’s no metal detectors or any kind of security on Amtrak - at I’ve never seen any.
Now even Amtrak isn’t safe, dude. It’s not safe to fly, drive, take a train. What the fuck is left?
Years ago there was crazy dude that literally decapitated another passenger on a Greyhound bus at rest stop. Less than a 1% chance of any kind of violent crime happening on a train but still frightening.
