      I was hoping you guys would explain more about the steps that go into the complete motion. For the life of me, I haven't been able to do the inline stop.

      Dick Nixon That's exactly what we did. We just didn't say step 1, step 2 etc. We covered, body position, stance, weight transfer, angel of skate etc. Stopping is never an easy task to perform, it takes time and practice.

      +Hockey Tutorial I think you forgot to mention what to do with the foot position of the other leg. (not the sliding leg). And some up close slow motion shots might have helped along with foot shifting.

    Wow! Thanks! I was actually researching this "pad" thing (attached to the side of the boot) and nobody seemed to answer my guessing that it exists because of the fact that the boot has the tendency to touch the ground while sliding.
    And even the skate makers tend to deal with it. Amazing! (And the guy in this video just forgot to mention this but it is definitely not the same as trying a slide executed entirely on the rubber wheels... ...I mean that split second boot side moment really makes a difference. Right?)

  • @metalgrinch
    @metalgrinch Před 8 lety

    Typically, I do a 180 degree stop, but at slower speeds than this. This hockey stop seems to go 90 degrees and then it's just the matter of the turning one foot around and it goes backwards for the stop, and the stopping foot rubs off the floor to stop. Gosh, this LOOKS so easy. I need to learn this so it can help me skate more confidently.

    Does wheel hardness make a difference at all? I feel like having harder wheels would help you avoid that "rubbery" friction which would make stopping more difficult with new skates.

    • @andrewbunce8926
      @andrewbunce8926 Před 7 lety

      metalgrinch wheel hardness does play a difference in stopping, softer wheels make it much easier to stop on smooth surfaces.

    Ohhh one more thing :it wont work on asphalt or concrete!

    • @CrazedGwonam97
      @CrazedGwonam97 Před 9 lety

      Yes it does just get super hard wheels

    • @molekulaTV
      @molekulaTV Před 9 lety +1

      Clever Happy Derp Sure , but nothing else will work. You either have a setup for slides or for grip that you need in the corners and crossovers and speed. Not to mention that hard wheels will shake on concrete like a grinder.
      So the surface in the video is a crucial thing and they just forgot to mention it.

    • @CrazedGwonam97
      @CrazedGwonam97 Před 9 lety +2

      molekulaTV lol bro if ur playing on concrete and asphalt at once which i dont see how, idk. On asphalt hard wheels r fine cause the surface provides grip. On smooth concret, get softer wheels

    • @ase69s
      @ase69s Před 9 lety

      molekulaTV It can work, only that you have to incline a bit more and vary the amount of pressure you apply to the skate depending on the surface.... In the end people freeriding in the city do these and other types of stops without problems

    • @molekulaTV
      @molekulaTV Před 9 lety

      ase69s They do it on hard wheels that has absolutely no grip, so no decent cornering left. Or they do hockey slides so steep that they actually push the side of the boot so deep that it literally grinds the concrete (I have seen it). Even in this video you can see that around 02:39 he starts it so deep that his boot probably touches the ground just for one split second!
      If this is the way they do why don't they say so???
      My point is that on a regular hobby skate that you buy for fun (and I am: not talking about some cheap ones) you just not gonna do it right out of the box without grinding the boot which is not so elegant (why don't they do it on the the kneecap??? (yeah it should called cap-slide). Another thing: in some videos that you may find on YT where guys do hockey slides on asphalt combined with jumps and stairs, well if you see closely you find that in many cases they pour water stripes on the ground before they just decide to run for a decent slide.

    • @IrieGuitar
      @IrieGuitar Před 7 lety +1

      Why would inline suck? I've been playing it for 20 years and imo it looks like Ice Hockey can be a huge hassle with all your gear getting wet and such. Also, inline hockey has a lot less upkeep costs and you don't typically have to pay for ice time at roller rinks. Btw, we don't wear shoulder pads and we don't wear full girdles like Ice so there is a lot more freedom of movement making inline hockey that much faster where you have to rely on your stick handling more than your physical play.

  • @michaelrmcornejo

    ahhh so basically the newer the wheels, the rubbery they are, the tougher the slide. so wear on the wheels is good.
