hello Dr Fung... i have a terrible hunger problem and when it hits i HAVE TO eat, it can happen anywhere from 2 - 4 hours after the last time i ate... and if i fast 24 hours, i fall down and hurt myself the next morning with HUGE nausea to go with it... i so badly want to lose weight, but i don't know how, i've tried everything, help!!?!?!?!?

I am not a medical doctor or studied diets etc just did business school
However I had similar issues starting off
Consider fermented foods , add pickles olives sauerkrauts and kefir drink and if you can handle some apple cider vinegar with honey before bedtime
The issue was a gut issue the processed foods sugars etc the bad microbes is dominant over the good a skew in the balance now it takes a month or two before the re balancing and replinishing of the good microbes and the hunger naturally curbs ,the issue is an abortion issue hence the hunger cravings so early after meals
On the fasting take baby steps when I started I barely did eight hours then I would drink or eat some low carb foods like pickles nuts steam veggies with butter and continue the fast
      It just the buildings blocks
If you suffer after twenty four hours you may need to take more baby steps
God 🙏 bless and all the success

I inadvertently helped my 300 lb elderly husband with dementia fast and improve his labs. Because of his dementia, he would sleep 16 hours or more. I feed him when he wakes up (and I often wake him up at 16 hours). Of course I watch his carbs because he is a type 2 diabetic. And recently I have been able to put him on the porch (for sunshine...natural vitamin D in addition to the D I give him).
After a year, we finally got into his Dr and his A1c was 6.1 and cholesterol was down 300 pts (without a statin). It was unintentional but now I am doing in intentionally!
He had gotten more alert, holds his urine better and is stronger! Who knew?

I have tried every "diet" in the world. I started fasting May 6 of this year and I'm not sure how much I have lost - but it is surely over 20 pounds and maybe 30. I am down to my high school size and in junior sizes. I'm 70 years old and am pre-diabetic. Haven't had my blood work yet, but I believe it will be much better. I will eat this way forever. I was snacking all day long prior to starting the fasting - I felt sluggish and tired. Plus with grocery prices and eating only once a day - I'm saving a lot of money!

I started the snake diet, I did not slowly get into a fast, I just did my first 48 hours and only drank salty water. I lost 10 pounds in under a week and I refilled by eating more green than protein. I stopped my fast weight loss but I restarted another 48 hours to see how much I can drop in another few days. Whatever works and how you do it is up to you. I messed up the day before and did not drink enough salty water, so I was slow and light headed until I broke my fast and ate…remember to drink water!

Cut snacks and sugar and went to a 2MAD with a 18-6 fasting and a 1 hr swim daily, and have consistently lost 1.5-2 Lbs / week. Weighed in at 295 and now down to 215 within a year. Sugar reduction was very effective in reducing inflammation and improving an arthritis condition. I found it easy to adapt to a new ritual. Not Keto but slow carbs and watching the level of foods on the glycemic scale. Researched insulin resistance and have now been on the journey to trend from pre-diabetic to normal glucose / blood levels. Never realized how important insulin was to losing weight until doing the research. Daily exercise combined with a better diet has drastically improved my fatty liver condition. The next challenge will be rectifying loose skin which is a by product of the weight loss but that takes time.

I agree. I was a emotional binge eater. I practiced subconscious journalling to treat binge urges/cravings and it helped immensely with the emotional stuff that caused this eating disorder. When I started intermittent fasting I would also journal throughout when those challenging thoughts & emotions came up that could trigger a binge. It didn't take long for the cravings and bing urges to stop and now I eat two meals a day and I'm no longer a prisoner to chocolate and crisps! Wanted to share this tip as I know it was hard for me to change my relationship and habits with food. I hope you find success. I have been struggling with my weight for a long time and turned to intermittent fasting about 5 years ago. Before doing it I had begun to feel sick and tired every time I ate, especially at traditional breakfast time. In other words, every time I ate I felt ill and I knew that couldn't be right. I was showing up as prediabetic for years. By beginning intermittent fasting, eating between 12 - 8 PM I felt much better when eating and my weight stabilized. However, I remained a solid 60 lbs overweight
With the pandemic, I then became dangerously sedentary and I know something has to change. This guidance has helped me see that I haven't made enough of an adjustment in the quality of the foods I eat and the quantity of carbohydrates. Also, this information regarding water fasting has helped me to understand I should be adding some measure of salt to my water to add electrolytes. I also found a company that sells electrolytes that are sugar-free and I will use that for my upcoming fast.
For the first time in my life, I have reasonable and approachable guidance for fasting. (I used to fast for religious reasons but was doing so as a child and now understand that was too young to do so.)
This is the start of my fasting journey to change my health for the better. Thank you Dr. Fung for your guidance.

After reading The Obesity Code and following Dr. Fung on CZcams, I realized that, without knowing it, I was doing intermittent fasting until I was about 25, when I had my first child. That's when I started following all the "expert" advice...low fat, the food pyramid, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day", count calories, etc. Also caved to the pressure to set a good example for my kids by planning our meals around that advice. That's when the pounds piled on. I'm very slowly losing, and wondering if I permanently damaged my metabolism during all those years of high carb, low fat eating. But what worries me more is the damage I may have done to my kids, who are now grown and starting to have weight problems.

Dr Fungs blog has a good post about how fasting can repair metabolism. I trashed mine doing a less intense version of the Biggest Loser diet in my 20’s, but between IF and keto/carnivore my metabolism is slowly recovering. I went from a BMR in the low 1500’s to now it’s in the high 1600’s and still going up. If you don’t know what your BMR is, several brands of smart scales can tell you. I use a Renpho brand scale and it has all kinds of great information it can track.

I am doing it and it is working!!! I have been struggling a very long time, ever since perimenopause started but fasting helps so much. Clothes didn't fit and I was blowing up like a balloon. So far lost 12.2 pounds in about 3 months. I have about 5 to 8 more to go. But it is incredible. I used to have no problem with weight until my hormones changed and I believe my insulin was the key. I can feel my body chemistry realigning itself. Food tastes better, I feel better, it is like a conditioning exercise. And I don't have cravings, or horrible sugar spikes, and when full, I am full. I still eat carbs, some days more than others, I eat mainly vegan, cut out all dairy which I believe helps with the hormones. Females beware, this is what you may need instead of a hysterectomy.

Hello. How is it going for you? About 5 yrs ago I went from 240 lbs to 180 with low carb & keto and IF. Im now post menopausal and feel crappy. I now weigh 190 and feel & look like a balloon. I've read that IF is not good for menopausal women. Do you have enough energy to workout with weights during your fasting window? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @hastycontemplation
      @hastycontemplation Před 2 lety +1

@@mperez2730 Hi, I have heard that IF is good for menopausal women but I think it is up the the individual. I would not try to force anything. If you have no energy to lift weights, maybe wait until after eating when you have more energy? I am flexible with IF. I started out eating one meal a day but recently started a 16:8. I still eat one main meal and just maybe a couple handfuls of something to keep my energy up for work, etc. But my opinion that I will stand by is a fasting period is good for reducing insulin levels and this keeps your body in a better condition to avoid easily packing on pounds. On my days off I eat less and take advantage of this. I also stand by avoiding dairy. It helps a lot. In my experience with perimenopause, dairy is like a steroid and causes me to bulk up, as well as many other things. If I eat it occasionally like in a cookie or something, I don't worry about it. It is when it is daily or in large amounts that I go into weight gaining blow up mode. Right now my clothes still fit better and I still feel good. Just try different time periods to see what works for you.
