What I want to know is if it was within a few months or sooner after, and she just stuck around out of guilt. If they broke up a year later over something, life happens. But man, she may have planned it.. this happened and she just froze lol. When I saw her in the gamer girl chair… it kind of made me think ah, both streamers. But at the start not gonna lie… I saw him, then her and was like…is he a rich lawyer or did he just win in life? Something felt a bit off I dunno. It felt maybe college relationship, money or famous streamer type thing going on behind the scenes. I don’t know her, but I just got vibes something was off. So dont blame the police. They have to work within the justice system. The police could be sued. But at least what the police could have done is use the tracker. But then to get a warrant it would take time etc. This isnt their first rodeo, they know they have little options especially if he doesn't want the thief prosecuted.

you dont seem to understand what the police officer told him,if the people from the neighbourhood complained about nick causing disturbances the police would have to talk nick and file report against him. The bureaucracy is like this everywhere. I just spent all of last week trying to get help for a trapped dog, and all the apartment offices and the humane society would do was bounce me between each other telling me to keep "reporting the noise" so they could file reports.
I lived in Windsor for a while right across from Detroit. Got broken into and they stole a couple of antique, amber, hand-carved smoking pipes. The same thieves had systematically broken into every place on the street. Every single one. I called the cops and they wouldn't even take a list of what was stolen. I explained the pipes were unique and easily identified and asked what I should do if I found them for sale in a pawn shop. The cop, leaving, said, "Then I guess you're s--- out of luck."
The fact that they broke up is crazy. Obviously idk the context but it's like what the cop said. This IS marriage material

It's very nice to see that there wasn't a single bad person in this escapade. Heck, the brother in law who actually took the case probably wanted it for their kids, which is one of the best case scenarios for something like this.
The police were understanding but were probably forced to follow protocol and stay as legal as possible. The neighbors were at the very least undisruptive, but most were very kind and very helpful. Nick makes sure no one is uncomfortable, but he still gets the device back. Overall, this turned out wonderfully.
Even though you didn't file an official report or try to catch the guy, I bet since his family was helpful and handed it over without even accepting the reward, he probably got an earful from them once he got home.
Not to mention the public shame of this CZcams video
An earful? If I found something like that at my job I would of taken it home too. Only earful he would of gotten was probably leaving the air tag in his garage.
Also why take a reward for returning something someone you knew stole. The reward is more of an enticement for people to help.

@vain101 It’s less about the fourth amendment and more about the cops forcing their style of "investigation" on the situation. The cops could’ve easily escorted the guy around so he could go knock on doors and try checking his tracker while he’s up there, like he suggested and originally intended, but instead the cops saw an opportunity to "take charge" and decided to do things their way which was completely useless and unneeded.
You should definitely hide the air tag inside the case next time! Also that air tage was definitely thrown out deliberately. :(

The drop I felt when he saw that the airtag was seperated from the case can not be described. HOLY SHIT. That was better than any hollywood movie.

The salt in the wound when the airtag beeped when he picked it up, it was like it was saying: "Hey! you found me, great job!". Glad he was able to recover the Gameboy Advance though, I can't imagine losing years of memories from a device you had as a kid.
I was flabbergasted, i pretended a random corner in my room was a camera like in the office and i looked directly at in and went "can you believe this?"

Some neighbourhoods just don't like strangers cruising around and suggesting somebody stole something. The officer just wanted to prevent the worst possible outcome, because you can never really predict how people will act. And if Nick bothered someone and got police called on himself, he'd have to come back and intervene this time against Nick because that's his job.

A guy just flew in from a different state and wants to walk up to people's homes. They did all they could and helped him by at the very least asking people on his behalf. The cop had the responsibility to inform Nick that he should not do this. If he did anyways - hey, he warned him not to do it. He knew full well he'd do it anyway if he planned to, just wanted to make it clear probably. I know cops in the US aren't the most liked people and I understand why, but if you approach everyone with "us vs them" mentality you will miss even the most obvious acts of simple human decency.

As a former FedEx employee, I can say that many of them are, in fact, extremely chill. There are certainly some that aren't, but some of the best friends I've made in my life, I met through FedEx.

Hmmm, it seems the thief knew that AirTag was some sort of tracker since they took it out. I wonder why they didn’t try to throw it away or anything. Taking it out and putting it in your garage definitely isn’t the smartest thing to do. Maybe he didn’t think someone would actually try to get it back.
i think i can explain that, actually - AirTags start beeping when they get separated from their owner, to prevent people using them for stalking and stuff. the guy probably got annoyed by the beeping and took it out lol

@@babylonian apple didn't actually add the tracker alert beeping until February 2022, so its more likely he just gave the kids the gameboy as is and one of them just took it out to play with and left it in the garage not knowing what it was, if the story played out today the guy in the airport would probably drive to a remote location after work to search for trackers on stuff before taking them home with him due to the general public being a lot more aware of item trackers like AirTags

To be fair, he can’t exactly film it while he’s doing the most direct action that would be required to get it back. He most likely had the police involved in order to demonstrate the limitations that they have when they actually do their job (as opposed to not or going “off-script”) and just being a “law abiding citizen” that takes the “right” steps towards his goal.

They probably didn't know what an Airtag was. I had no idea what an airtag was until I looked up ways to track my dog. Probably not a criminal, and probably the first time they stole something. We don't know anything about anything, and it's really generous of him to see things in a broader light. I am glad he didn't get shot like they do in my neighborhood.

Let something happen that could give the city a $300 civil citation...... They will bring down a whole team of people to apprehend someone who is unwilling to receive and sign a civil citation.
Look into the story of The Man that was shot twice because he didn't want a $300 ticket for walking in between train cars.
But on the other end, if you were one of those neighbors who did nothing wrong, you would want them to have to have a court order and hard evidence to look on your property. (I'm not pro cop, I'm pro social worker)

I did something similar with a $20k speciality piece of video gear that I had embedded 2 air tags inside! Spent 3 days tracking it through downtown Dallas. One thing I learned in the whole process, is that the police aren’t really there to help you. They have no capacity to do anything unless it’s right in front of their face. You HAVE to be your own detective today if you want any justice in property theft.

I had my apartment broken into in 2010 while I was at work and my things stolen. Cops wouldn’t do anything. I had to do all the detective work and found out a friend of a friend was selling all my stuff. The thief only ended up getting a charge for receiving stolen property since they didn’t have enough proof to charge for the B&E and theft. I never had any of my things returned.
