  • Learn my tricks to graft onto Myrtillocactus Geometrizans, my favorite rootstock. I also discuss the reasons why you would want to graft a cactus, to begin with.

some people recommend sanitizing the scion and stock with diluted isopropyl alcohol prior to cutting them. of course the cutting tools get sanitized. the scion can be dunked in a small bowl of the diluted alcohol to rinse the dirt off. use a mister to spray the stock down. dilute the alcohol with water. i don't remember what dilution rate is sufficient. 3:1? Also, I'd recommend pumping up the stocks first. water them for the couple weeks prior to grafting to get them as plump as possible.

    That wusthof knife, though! Hahah
Edit: Well...it looked liked a Wusthof knife, whoops.
Great video man! Always wondered what the hell grafting was and how/why people did it.

Haha Thanks man! I’m not sure what it is but it’s SHARP! It’s important to use a sharp blade and not serrated (forgot to mention that)

Thank you dude. I understood grafting itself but with cacti i didnt get rhe point unless the now base/roots helped a seedling grow MUCH faster.
I probably wont check back cause im terrible with following up on comments but what i still dont understand if the scion develops new traits from being attached to a different species?

It may but only due to extra moisture available, not due to transfer of DNA.

I currently have a single cinerea seedling that seems to have germinated and am probably going to do this with the exact methods you're showing if it makes it to a few months old. How old do you recommend the seedlings to be before grafting?

Nice! I love experimenting with them 🤓 The older they are, the better their chances of survival. I try to let them grow at least one year before grafting. Good luck! Welcome to the channel

If I put the sulfur directly on the stock would it be too much

You should place it right on the cut, careful not to spill it as it's not good for the environment.
