    Install looks great! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am very new to auto glass industry and am trying to learn as much as I can. Love seeing it from a customer’s POV.

    Great video!! They took mine on the highway too! I wasn’t too pleased about that, but feel better about it since seeing your video. Thanks!

      You’re welcome, but now that you mention is…I’m still a little ticked at how many miles they put on 🤣.

    That trim you talking about has a clip that they broke. It is almost impossible to remove without breaking according to Tesla. Needs a new cowl or however you spell it. It is not glued. The part plus labor is about $65.
    I’d used Tesla and make sure I got OEM glass.

    Would you be willing to share the sxact out of pocket costs for this? as well as the total price-- including the amount the insurance paid for? I am in the same boat as you. I need to replace my cracked Model Y 2020 windshield. I also have Connect by Amfam.

    • @TheLawnEngineer
      @TheLawnEngineer  Před 10 měsíci +4

      The total on the receipt was $1,934. I'm sure insurance negotiates this down but that's what I see.
      I paid $250 to cover my comprehensive deductible.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I've read horror stories online about safelite and I just had almost the excat same crack as you on my model y occur yesterday evening. Today I went thru the same process as you between tesla and safelite in terms of figuring out claiming with insurance, only to go to with safelite due to less stress and streamline processing. I appreciate the video, glad you got your situation fixed. Hopefully i dont have to wait a week haha.

      You’re welcome. It sounds like we have the same thought process, hopefully your experience is as good as mine.

      Not sure if you got your windshield replaced yet but you can use any glass shop that is in network. Safelite has a sister company called Safelite Solutions that works as a 3rd party glass claims administrator for many insurance companies. It’s confusing the way it’s set up but Safelite Solutions, the company you talk to after putting in your glass claim, can dispatch the work out to any shop in network. You would only have to pay deductible to whichever shop you choose in your area.

    I had a windshield replacement for my 2023 model y with safelite. I had a appointment which I waited 2 weeks for. The day of the appointment comes I had an appointment for between 8:45 and 11:30 and they call me past 12 o clock to cancel because they don't even have the windshield... Missed work for no reason but whatever. Finally a week after my appointment comes. They leave my car that I take great care of very muddy and with white sticky spots all over everywhere. They broke My cowl aswell. The trim around my rear view mirror is all pryed and bent. And now my frunk also is very squeaky and feels kinda rough. So that's my experience with safelite :)

      @TheLawnEngineer  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Their scheduling system is definitely broken. It's pretty crazy that they don't have anyone reviewing the appointments as they are made to order the glass.
      Anyway, too bad about the install. It does seem very dependent on the installed you get, some a great...others not so much, and the majority are somewhere in between.

      @@TheLawnEngineer my insurance scheduled me for the worst reviewed safelite in my state for some reason. In general terrible customer service. Somewhat rude. And my car with only 7k miles that I kept spotless for a few months now needs a decent detailing done to it and probably a few fixes from the tesla center. There's a few centers of safelite in my state that actually have really good reviews. But the one they scheduled me for had a 2 star average with mostly 1 star reviews and people posting pictures of damage to their car. My suggestion is don't let your insurance schedule. Tell them exactly which safelite location you want to go to.

    Do you know the OEM part number for the windshield?

    Got my 2023 back from Safelite. My car with less than 4k miles on it now has wind noise from the new windshield. The Safelight location that did the install is refusing to stand behind their workmanship. I called the CS number and was put on hold for 45 minutes and then hung up on. I'll call back and try to get a resolution, but it is not looking good.

    • @TheLawnEngineer
      @TheLawnEngineer  Před 4 měsíci

      That really sucks. I hope you get some resolution. I think I’ll go with Tesla next time.

      Same issue, just got mine replaced with Safelite last week and I'm getting wind noise. I was under the impression it was going to be an OEM windshield but it wasn't. I was told I needed to request it upon filing the claim otherwise you get their own brand. Taking it back tomorrow as is under warranty and is considered a "Failed Install"...I wish I would have done my homework prior to this and gone straight to Tesla instead...... :(

      Same here. Safelite aftermarket windshield replacement done 100% through insurance. Now loud wind noise. Pillar gaps on both sides not uniform like the install was askew, but the gap along the top is uniform to the roof glass. Plus, the width is off from that of the roof glass as well. It appears that the windshield dimensions are incorrect. The biggest issue is that the top left is higher than the roof glass height yet the right side is fine. The tech and the manager both said they’ve had complaints with the non Tesla glass. I’m normally fine with aftermarket parts(like windshields) but this one is substandard so I’m working the redo now with an OEM windshield. The recalibration is ridiculous. When I picked up my Model Y LR from Tesla, it was not calibrated. I think Safelite install is OK, but the aftermarket windshield is not.

    Did you notice squeaking noises from the windshield while driving?

  • @pre-rollfpv6633
    @pre-rollfpv6633 Před 3 měsíci +2

    I am a windshield certified master technician of 30 years I also am Tesla certified for The last 5 years. If you made your appointment with the Tesla service center I could have replaced the windshield and had you calibrated with zero miles in about 45 minutes. Please don't take your car to Safelite. Find a locally owned and operated company in your area with qualified technicians.

    $670 installed third party. Didnt want Tesla crappy windows. People have reported replacing oem Tesla windows three times in a year.
