- We love our cornbread around here and a nice twist on the traditional cake of cornbread is this amazing fried cornbread and who don't like fried food?
Ingredients:
1 cup self rising cornmeal mix (I use Martha White)
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk

I grew up eating it just like that. I'm old 75, But, you can put Jalapenos, onions, corn, bacon, (OMG), crackling, or what's your pleasure, in with it. Thanks for this. Regular milk works BTW.
I ate these growing up - we called them corn cakes and ate them savored in butter and syrup for breakfast 🥞
Looks really good, just made these a few weeks ago, but I add things to mine now & then.....I added some tiny chopped up onion in mine you may want to try it.....make sure you cut them real thin so they get done when the bread does......sometimes I will add a little bit of heat to them.....just whatever you want.....some even add corn......don't really care for that but you might .....I use way less oil than you do....

Do you make breakfast corn fritters or corn pancakes? Just about the same only a little oil. Had those when growing up.
I am AMAZED that you broke the egg in a separate little bowl👍🏼‼️😘. It has always bothered me to see cooks crack an egg/eggs right into the ingredients😳 What if by chance an egg is BAD? Cracking it into all the other ingredients ( Bad egg) ruined the ingredients, throw it all away, AND
