Our names are Jason & Angela. Married in 2003 and began our food growing journey on the patio of our little apartment around 2005. We've been growing food together for over 15 years in a variety of methods from container gardening to in ground gardening and raised beds at our 1/2 home property now. We still use all the methods we have learned over the years to grow as much food as possible in a basic suburban setting. We bought our first chickens in 2015, they became our children, and have added more every couple of years since. We bring a simple faith based approach to our pursuit of food independence, believing that God desires people to grow food, love others, and live a simple life as much as possible. This is our life

Sometimes We Need Tough Talk
zhlédnutí 132Před 9 hodinami
In Hebrews chapter 5 the writer chastises his readers for not being mature enough. Telling them that they need to be taught "the elementary truths of God's word all over again". Unfortunately that is the case in too many Christians circles these days. We have failed in discipling new Christians in our churches these days and we're too afraid of offending people with the truth. Maybe it's time w...

The Need For Pollinators In The Backyard Garden
zhlédnutí 109Před 21 hodinou
So much of our food that we grow as gardeners/food growers/homesteaders requires pollination. Some foods can be wind pollinated and some produce male and female blossoms and need bees or some kind of pollinating insect to carry pollen from the male blossom to the female blossom. However, there are things going on that kill and/or push away these valuable pollinating insects. Email us: ArtOfCrea...
Be Confident
zhlédnutí 97Před dnem
In Hebrews chapter 4 the Bible says that we need to "approach the throne of grace with confidence". So often we approach that throne with an attitude or mindset that is anything but confident. Confidence is not arrogance, and it's also not self deprecating or full of unbelief. So lets be confident that God can and will hear us and work in on our behalf in His timing. Have An Abundance Of Eggs??? | Ways To Use A Lot Of Eggs | Backyard Chickens
Spent all day in the garden. Zone 10a, we're celebrating the end of scorched earth. Garden beds all cleaned up. Fresh seed in the starter tray. We'll be harvesting the "summer" crops for Thanksgiving. May to July is our dead season. Too dry, too hot, too many hungry critters.
I’ve just started more brassicas too.. will get cabbage and broccoli out in 6 weeks or so…. They should be fine as the weather cools… so I’m told.
Excellent video. Thank you
Getting ready to plant 2nd crop of corn and more. South Alabama Also building my vertical towers with pvc and a water line down the middle. Getting to old to tiller.
Thank you. We moved and bought a house in a new growing area( Idaho) 😊so starting over so this is encouraging! I appreciate your sharing!
I have been looking through all the creators in this series to find zone 6. You mentioned Ohio.... Is this you?!
Yes, we are Ohio zone 6.
Ah, you’re the first one to mention HOW MANY seed potatoes per grow bag! I’ve grown, as a newbie, potatoes in 7 gal grow bags along my sunny driveway. No surprse, they didn’t do well. I think I put 3 in each….🤣 Dried up too quickly. This year, I planted in 20 gal plastic nursery tubs and pulled (to me) a great harvest. Thanks also for referring to GreenStalk. I use one for strawberries and a second for salad greens (oh, those are cooked in this heat!). Green beans to replace, yes! Easy harvest. 👍🏻
Happy 4th of July.
I have 8 Amazon grow bags with 3 different types of potatoes. They are just now blooming?
I’ve had to hand pollinate cucumbers 🤦 bees 🐝 not coming around much
What a beautiful story! Definitely will try this recipe.
Lovely story.
Have you heard of Producer's Pride feed? If so, what do you think about it?
While I don't use Producer's Pride, I'm sure plenty of people do and their chickens may do just fine. Producer's Pride is made by Purina for Tractor Supply. The important thing is to remember to do the best you can for your chickens while not spending more money than you can afford. Try not to switch feeds once they get started on a specific kind. Chickens like consistency
When did you plant to when you harvested? I'm trying to see when I should harvest my grow bag.
❤❤ I’m using rash bags 😅😢❤❤ Anyone want to donate to help Steph with raised beds 😅😅❤❤
What Fertilizers you put on your potatoes plants?
We use some blood meal (nitrogen) and a good amount of bone meal (phosphorus) and kelp meal (potassium)
How long do they last before they go soft?
awesome corn, guys. god bless.
Looks awesome
You do a great job teaching.
Thank you! I really do appreciate that
I froze eggs last year both whole and scrambled. I found the whole ones did wonderfully when poached.
Just found your channel, new subscriber excited to support you
Awesome! Thank you!
Just found ur channel, your garden is absolutely beautiful, I have a 80% perennial fruiting garden and 20% vegetable. I do tire gardening with it, no till, no water gardening, minimal work high yield 😊
Excelente plantas crecen muy bien
I ate these growing up - we called them corn cakes and ate them savored in butter and syrup for breakfast 🥞
What kind of flooring stuff do you have in your coop?
We have a solid wood floor with pine shavings on it
Your plants are so so good! Lots of beautiful fruits! 😍 peppers! Peppers actually grow into trees in tropical areas lol you can overwinter it and grow it again! I need to grow that Barry's Crazy next year! Wow you have expanded the container garden nicely 😊
Listening to all the things that could stress chickens out got me to realize chickens are complex creatures
They aren't as simple minded as people think.
blossom end rot is more caused by the plant not being able to take the calcium up into the plant than by the lack of the calcium. Maybe try watering more?
Yes I agree. It's the inability to uptake the nutrients not necessary the lack of. Inconsistent watering causes it. So it may be that they had too much water in a short time.
Well, I can set everyone's mind at ease. We are constantly making sure that they have consistent water and only the right amount of water. We have not been getting much rain, so we have been watering by hand that is allowing us to make everything is very consistent. The plants are producing an amazing amount of tomatoes. We have added bonemeal and the bottom rot has now stopped. We have been doing this for many years and completely know what to do when we see this happening.
What would a gallon recipe be?
This made slightly over 2 pints...2 pints is a quart.... 4 quarts = a gallon....so quadruple this recipe
I MUST try this marvelous thing. Could I use it as maple chips for cookies??
I'm sure if you were able to cut it small enough that it would work....it may melt because this fudge doesn't have the stabilizers in it that the chips have though. If you try it, please let me know if it works
@@artofcreationhomestead I cooked it yesterday and have it in the fridge!! I may bake cookies next weekend!!😅
Doesn’t work as chips but does as filling!!👍🏻
That looks just like the fried corn bread my mama made. Makes my mouth water to see it.
This is why I do not go to these so called; nightmare hair stylist. I invest in CZcams, and start from there. 😊
Nice garden. Good luck with the zucchini. They’ll be full of squash bugs before you know it.
For the first time we don’t have a pollinator shortage! This year we have seen pollinators that we have never seen before. What I think is bringing them in is the borage (star flower) and the sunflowers we planted this year they are just swarming them and then going to all the other flowers. We direct sowed the borage and it’s just taking off (it does tend to spread but they are easily pulled if they end up where you don’t want them )
Yall are the best! So glad I stumbled upon your channel. My joy crop is garlic. This is our first year trying potatoes in food safe 5 gal buckets. I’m hoping they grow well. The wait is killing me. Do yall save your own seed potatoes or do you go out and buy them?
What a beautiful memory 😊thank you for sharing it and your mamas recipe. I will make it ❤️
Thanks for this amazing video!
WOW ..I love your potatoes ...gave me an idea
I only see a few. I have more wasps. But they drive e crazy. Always bumping into me. I've only see a couple fat bumble bees. I grow on a big deck & plant Alot of sunflowers & Zinnias.
Hillbilly kitchen has the same recipe 👍🏻
No, actually, our recipes are nothing alike. Mine has brown sugar, white sugar, lemon juice, and a touch of water cooked in with the blackberries. There is also no egg in the cobbler part of mine. They are actually totally different recipes. I know because I just watched it for the first time.
I just started this spring growing potatoes. Maybe planted them to shallow and then started to show above the grown and look green what should I do? Did added more dirt but can I harvest ? Or eat them?
No chemicals in my yard. Drives me nuts when my neighbor has her yard treated by a chemical company. Our houses are close & they spray their chemicals on my property. I do whatever I can to keep bees happy!
Yes I hate round up. Its no good. Kills everything.
I’m experiencing the same thing with my garden, and I’m here in Michigan. It saddens me.
I could peel it bf u mf can close an umbrellla
And I can block you before you can be stupid. Oh, wait a minute, you're already being stupid, so I guess you got me there
I love this recipe!!! I’ve used it two years in a row now. My only question is, how do I keep them crispy? The flavor is amazing but they get soft.
I wonder why they were all pretty much skinny? Looked like they had great dirt 🤷♀️
Thank you for the vinegar trick! You are a very wise homesteading lady!
