Corey's best mask yet! Vocal Analysis of Slipknot "The Dying Song"!

- Somehow this is the FIRST time I have analyzed Slipknot here on the channel! I know, the bearded figure in our previous video was in fact NOT me. I had to come clean about it eventually! Corey Taylor exhibits vocal excellence in their newest single. While Slipknot has never been a favorite of mine, Corey's vocal journey has always been one of interest!

Mark, you gotta get Justin from tallah back on the live stream! That was great, I've watched that episode so many times lol
I had a question, when Jonathan Davis does his screaming, what type of screaming is he doing, it's pretty different than say Cory Taylor or even chester Bennington.
Mostly false chord
"Fighting in the parking lot" vs "summoning Satan in the woods" most be one of the best descriptions of metal voices ever
👆This. I’ve always tried to explain that Corey’s screams sound like pure and honest anger, rather than shaped and focused metal vocals. Corey screams in a way that we can all feel and identify with.
I love that Slipknot has/is their own sound. Especially with Corey, you know it's Corey when he sings
The mask is definitely one of my favorites. Looks like it’s perfectly form fitting
Corey Taylor's sound was always the one that came the most naturally to me both screaming and singing
You should definitely do more slipknot.
Slipknot was one of the first metal bands I was into. I still remember seeing the video for Left Behind in middle school when Iowa came out and the rest is history.
mine was deftones adrenaline. fuck I loved that CD!
Absolutely loved this song, can't wait for the album!
I love this channel. The way you discribe things is like nothing else on youtube. Especially on Iowa they presented as "summoning the devil in the woods" but in your ears they're more like "fighting in a parking lot."
Haha, thanks so much for watching man!
People get it wrong his all ways had technical abilitie he would not be able to do stone sour ¹st album after iowa if he was screaming unhealthy like some keep says he was an alcoholic and acid reflux did him it not the screaming its self its do the guy from Whitechapel screams like coery iwoa era that primal low gut sound that rely enjoyable and coery dose high octave screams as well first and second 3erd albums there some more recent live shows where its like his voice has deaged he dose amazing screams like ive never heard
your description of the 'you know which bands i'm talking about' immediately had me thinking of lamb of god, haha
Always nice to hear your deep analysis of vocals and different sound techniques!
"fight in a parking lot vs summoning satan in the woods"
lmao, good comparison.
is it bad that I understood it perfectly?
Wonderful explanation of harsh vocals and singing fundamentals in general! I hope this video gets tons of views for you. People can learn a lot from this info! Thank you so much.
People wouldn't complain about pauses if they listened to the song first and a reaction later.
Love your channel!
a lil cheat code i found to sort of mimic coreys sound is just find your distortion placement and put a lot of emphasis on an "i" sound.
Hyped
Wait, that wasn't you in the last Slipknot analysis video?! My world has been shattered. But seriously, just wanted to say I recently picked up your album "Liminal Rite" and I absolutely love it. It's a killer album - captivating and beautiful.
you're a really good teacher
And I know you guys said you would not probably do that again but could you please do a breakdown of Mudvayne nothing to gain live in Oz fest 2001 I love that performance one of my favourite live performances of anything I’ve ever seen and I would love to see your take especially at the end it gives me chills almost every time I listen to it
I feel like you can approach these types of screams from either angle, for me personally I have a much easier time incorporating my true voice sound safely with fry vocals and I get closer to this sound with them. Whereas some other vocalists can get towards this sound much easier with false cord and sound just as close
It would be interesting to hear you react to some of the songs from their first two albums, when Corey wasn’t doing vocals in a healthy manner. Your insight with vocals that are done less than safely would be pretty valuable I think
would be interested to see you react to some aversions crown? mayber Erebus, Vectors, or The Oracles of existence? I haven't found any reviews and would love to see a breakdown of them. love the vocals but especially the guitar.
Great as always! May I ask if you ever heard, carach angren- when crows tick on windows?
Please do Carach angren!
it would be cool if you did a 36crazyfists song. The way he sings was always kinda different than most of the other bands that were around at the time. all wavy..... and I have no idea how to describe it.
This is a great song.
More slipknot!
👌 excelente to got it even if ur don't speak English a lot 🤌🙏
Saludos desde México ✌️
Can you please do Gently - Slipknot, I would love for you to do something from Iowa but especially that song!
I'll check it out!
@@KardavoxAcademyyes please!
Hey Mark, what do you think about doing black metal vocal tutorials? 🔥🤘🏻
Hey sensei!!!! 👋👋👋👋
Please do an analysis for dragged into the inferno by immortal disfigurement
Can you do a reaction on "Orbit Culture" band, if more specific, "Open eye" song. The vocal there is so heavy I can't wait the reaction
The Iowa mask is still my favourite.
I actually don’t know which bands you were referring to lol 😂 I wasn’t into metal at that time lmao
Nothing beats Iowa
Yo Mark, please please please do something from the new psycroptic album. Would love to hear your analysis. The screams have really evolved a lot in that band over the last two decades
what's the album title? gonna go look it up.
@@BirdOfHermes8381 Divine Council
I need your reaction on Slipknot - Yen 🙂
I wonder which other Kardavox videos were also Elizabeth with a beard 🤔
all of them!
Vocal Cover! czcams.com/video/8IJ8QM71cFA/video.html
That's a controversial opinion on the mask there! I do think it's on of his better ones, but not his best.
i think it's secound only to vol.3 one
@@razvantudor4357 Vol. 3 mask is a close second for me. I just love how clean this one looks, but spooky at the same time
For me it’s also this and the vol. 3 mask. Possibly the new one would take first. Then probably the original mask in 3rd place.
The mask with the dreads is my fav . Looked so sick
@@dinerosuarez6813 he’s had 4 with dreads
Can you do me a favour can you react to an old song off of Iowa and show me and some other people where do you think Cory went wrong in certain parts I don’t think all of his screams from that era or unhealthy I think like 60% 70% a time he was screaming pretty fine hopefully it was certain parts where he wanted to get extra tone and aggressiveness out of it where he may have went wrong I’d like to see your point those areas out and to tell me if I’m wrong tell me a fact if he was screaming wrong the whole time I could be wrong I don’t think so but I have that I’d really enjoy that video Instead of it being a reaction it would be a breakdown or unless the video I don’t know what do you want to call it but I think it be cool
What music do you typically listen to if not Slipknot?¿
I think Cory's current mask and the bloated out mask he recently used were the best
Do yen next!
I'll check it out!
But what does Corey Taylor think of it?……I’ll see myself out now 😂
cya! 👋
Best sentence to compare metal vocal sounds ever.... Lol
Fight in a parking lot vs summon saint in the woods 😆 hahaha
You gotta react to solway firth …
I'll check it out!
Why haven’t you done oceano yet ? We got like 6 Lorna shore videos but no oceano :/ Smh
Have you listened to summoning the lich yet? Specifically demon of the snow?
I have not, I keep meaning to do that!
@@KardavoxAcademy I really think you'd like them! Definitely within your vast vocal range and mastery 🤘
I amplify my acid reflux so that i can add more texture to my vocal folds via corrosion, that's the secret to alex terrible lows, other than twisting your larynx
Aside from them not being able to re-capture the aggression and emotion of the first two albums, my biggest complaint about later Slipknot is Clown's corny artistic visual stuff. Like that whole intro and outro just reeks of Clown's ideas and I can't stand that cringey stuff, LOL! Otherwise, this song is actually one of the best they've put out in a long time. They just released a new one today called Yen. It's nowhere near as chaotic as this one and Corey does some pretty interesting things with his vocals that I don't think he's done before. Definitely not in Slipknot, anyway. It's actually also a very good track. Half way soft and the other half is slow and heavy.
Where is that intro from?
You've definitely missed some Slipknot, based off of your judgement 🤘🤘 or maybe I'm just a bigger stone sour fan than Slipknot lol
Proof that people are wrong about how corey had an unhealthy scream that damaged his voice czcams.com/video/GYtsjbkXYB4/video.htmlsi=rKwWvkwOTuUG8ma1
Hold on that episode wasn’t you? Wtf
Yeah, acid reflux is a bitch
For some reason the chorus of this song makes me cringe...Just seems a bit out of place, but maybe that's what they were going for
I remember when the Slipknot album was released and I loved this band for years but the Slipknot and Iowa albums are the only two I really care for. They sound so generic after that. Their masks look way too comfortable and professionally made now too. I just like that grungier, more raw and less refined look they had.
I know exactly what you're talking about! I can listen to their cds after that. They're ok, but I can't really feel it. I cant get into them. They're one of my friends favorite bands. I kinda got into heavier music, Because right now Cattle decapitation is my favorite band and their sounds are very far apart.
@@BirdOfHermes8381 Haha I know what you mean there but I have went both ways as I get older. Softer and more brutal. I recently fell in love with Infant Annihilator. Dickie Allen is the shiza! I'll check out Cattle Decapitation.
@@Enkiguy I wish infant annihilator toured.
And I suggest you read the lyrics while listening to cattle. It makes it so much better. Bring back the plague was the first song I heard from them.
Their last two albums are my favorites. But the monolith of inhumanity is still amazing. The ending track and your disposal are brutal!
Mask taim
That was Elisabeth??? Holy f*ck.... I thought you had a ... you know... hormon therapy....
What are you on about? Last time didn't even look like Elizabeth! I think you're just getting to the point where you start forgetting things...
666th like 🤘
You have to check out the new Lamb of God.
The original mask was the best.
Slipknot is losing it a bit, they repeat same song over and over.
You literally just don't listen to the full albums if you think that
"Know that I don't care." Love it. So much lol.
You need to watch the devil in i by slipknot please
I'll check it out!
