    I've been in some type of sales my entire life. My first 2 jobs at 17 years was outbound sales. I found these piece by accident but I really like it. No matter how long you've been in the game, one should always cold call and get referrals from the good clients. "Rich prospects know and hang out with other rich prospects" ...like the saying goes. Even though I haven't had a strictly phones job since then the lessons like what this guy is saying is gospel .

    I've done a lot of cold calling throughout the years and found the most useful way of pitching a company is getting your entire spiel out in under a minute, name, company and pitch. If they're interested (or not) they'll let you know right away! Oh and above ALL else NEVER EVER ask for the decision-maker, that only SCREAMS salesperson.

    • @mikeferry3391
      @mikeferry3391 Před 8 lety +1

      +Mare Cee Why would you pitch unless you even know if they have a pain. I imagine you spend a lot of time overcoming objections. That's not a conversation. You're missing the point of this example.

    • @marecee1054
      @marecee1054 Před 8 lety

      +Mike Ferry When I've done cold calling in the past I always worked from some kind of list. What I learned was that no matter how cleverly you try to word your pitch prospects know you're a salesperson. Now as far as your assumption goes about ME spending a lot of time overcoming objections, you're completely incorrect Why? Because I didn't waste their valuable time asking a bunch of questions. There's something to be said about getting to the point and selling something they actually need that appeals to most people. Now that is what really works Mike!

    • @mikeferry3391
      @mikeferry3391 Před 8 lety

So..give me your opening and I'll give you one that I could use if I was selling your product. (What is that product and what problem do you solve?) Let's compare

    I've watched a few of these videos online about cold calling and I haven't watch one yet that talks about "being authentic" or really doing your best to sell yourself as being friendly. I have found that in the countless number of calls I've made through the years, that speaking friendly, confident and authentic, that it makes all the difference in the world. The rest of what was explained here I agree with! Regardless great video! EJMandigo

    While some may say that it is NOT a numbers game, I can demonstrate otherwise..
    In my organization, if a telemarketer will dial the phone 100 times per day, with the expectation that they will get to speak to 10 people, 8 of whom will say, "no," that with the price point of our product, one could bring home $1000 per week, every week, on average.
    I used to jokingly tell my newbies that they could be 98% losers and make $50K per year. They thought that was a unique perspective on rejection.

I have sort of trial/training thing for a telemarketing position coming up and I will definitely use these techniques and see how it works out. :) And I also wanted to say to people bashing salesmen. Just to state it again for all the unbelievers: the idea behind cold calling is that if you call a whole lot of people, you'll eventually find someone who actually wants and appreciates your product or service. That is why the thick skinned choose to put up with all the hate that they get over the phone. When you find the person who actually does appreciate what you're offering, it cancels out all of that other pointless negativity. People are just mean sometimes.

  • @MrShellmarx1981
    @MrShellmarx1981 Před 10 lety +1

    I strongly believe this works from beginners to moderately confident cold call sellers. If you get the fact to your client that you are there to help they will give you a few minutes of their time. I see the arguments where they state if you have a product of top quality then you didn't need to bother. If so you don't need sales people just marketing and vending machine.

    "I'll assume that you work on commission. Who trained you? Stop beating this dead horse. Hang up the phone and call someone who wants to say, yes."

    *ADD EXCLUSIVITY & NEVER ASK IF YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS*
    7:34 "Hi! I'm James Smith from Fleet Soft.
    With our help a number of transportation companies increased their average load capacity by as much as 40% and I'd like to help your company qualify to receive a similar margin boost. So how many....?"
    Never ask if you can ask. Because no one can honestly determine whether they can answer a question until they've heard it. Sometimes the questions are so simple it's easy enough to just answer them rather than schedule a future call. So if they can answer they will. But if they don't have the time they will tell you to call back just as if you had asked if you can ask a questions. So you may as well ask.

    Even if you call 1,000 people and they all swear at you and call you horrible names, one person out of those 1,000 can make you a nice fat paycheck. That's why people do cold calling. You see, there are people out there who actually want to buy this stuff. You just need to find them.

    After reading some comments... In just my opinion... But cold calling is meant to attract new sphere of customers (prospects)... From there... One needs to focus on executing their close... When you close the customer.... You then need to focus on building loyalty. Etc. It's a balance game. And numbers need also balancing. Doing so effectively should minimize how much cold calling you need to do. The goal is to continue to have repeating and repeated customers to keep ur business thriving ;)

    Cold calling can be described as bloody sheer and utter desperation to generate a sale or appointment with a psuedo-positive attitude. The customer is right in thinking you are a pain in the arse and there's a simple reason these call centres have the highest turnover figures: The job is crap. You'll likely have an annoyingly vibrant and balding manager whose job consists largely of trying to keep alight whatever spark you may have left in your soul with unattainable figures of quick cash and futile team-building exercises. There would be no negative consequences whatsoever if this market disappeared overnight. Smart call.

  • @resume1009
    @resume1009 Před 8 lety

    I think you need to apply this technique to a degree conducive to what you are selling or trying to sell. It really isn't a matter of black and white here. In fact ,is the call to actually complete a sales transaction on the first conversation or are you merely introducing yourself and your company? Is the product or service a necessity, luxury, fringe or collateral/allied product or service? Is it a regular input to the user or a once in while or longer type need? In any case, decide why you want to make the call and then what you are going to do next. In a lot of situations, this call can get you the information (correct contact, need or no need, never) and either start you on a cultivation process (email, newsletters, special promotions) that ends in a business transaction or saves you a ton of time in following up with someone who will never use your product or service. Regardless, make the calls, be yourself and talk to the prospect as you would to a person whose time and character you respect.

  • @kaa1135
    @kaa1135 Před 10 lety +1

    Very Cool! The simplicity of the technique is elegant, and the brilliant twist of humility and a historical reference to the benefit really conveys a confidence (so important) as well as a distilling of the information down to a few short questions that guide them in knowing if their business might also enjoy the benefit as did the afore referenced company. I haven't had to do a lot of cold calling in my life. Now however, I find myself owner of a business where I must..... I will utilize this technique! Thanks very much! I have been fretting and searching to find something excellent that I can really use..that would really help me....... this is it!!!!!

    @VanConversion I noticed that as well. However the rest of the information is good. Instead of saying " May I ask you a few questions.....?" Why not just ask your first question.
    Like you said, we're trying to build rapport so jumping to "tell me more about your operating systems at the moment?" They may feel that you haven't yet earned a right to that level of info. But I agree that it's better than a close-ended question. BTW, I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm trying to figure it out.

    If done correctly, it isn't annoying. Unfortunately it rarely is. And as for results... with a good agent selling a relevant and good product/service it definitely has results. Why do you think so many companies use this technique?

    From what phone do you call from when prospecting? The challenge is almost every phone has a caller ID. If you can, try calling the prospect on your cellular phone. Do not leave a message. Many people will call back your number to see who made the call. Give it try sometime.

    these are great for dealing with cold callers too, stop them engaging with you and they'll drop the call before you do :D

    Any ideas of how to gain the gate keepers trust in one sentence? To get an appointment scheduled with the deduction maker?

      in one sentence, idk. you can try to bulldoze GKs, and it works sometimes, but they'll only be irritated thereafter if they are persistent. building rapport with GKs is a decent way to go about it, or ask the GK some operational questions. remember, it's there job to keep the unnecessary people out and let the qualified people through. come off as a confident expert in whatever industry you're calling in.
