    The SoR 3 OST has aged like fine wine. On a decent sound system with good Genesis audio output or a high quality rip, you can tell how much work was to put into it. Really ahead of its time and underrated.

    I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but _Streets of Rage 3_ also has _Street Fighter_-inspired controls. If you have a six-button controller, then it's possible to perform special inputs in order to perform the higher tiered version of your character's special attacks. It's completely optional, but it is a nice touch.

    I'd actually beat the horse like everyone else say but SOR 3 is a COMPLETELY different game compared to SOR 2.
    The starting levels in both games are vastly different and most of the levels take place in claustrophobic areas and the colors themselves aren't welcoming in SOR 3 compared to SOR 2's bright and colorful,lighthearted levels. SOR 3 feels like something out of a martial arts Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan movie.
    The music is an indication that sets the mood apart from SOR and SOR 2 due to the story being about genocide so the music has to reflect the ticking time of urgency.
    Even the sprites of the heroes in SOR 3 were given the dark film,noir-like look to it as if Jim Lee or Frank Miller or Todd McFarlane drew them. Also,Axel's SOR 3 sprite makes him look like he's taken too much smokin'. Why wouldn't he? He had to find FREAKIN' BOMBS in the game's story.

  • @VGHOST008
    @VGHOST008 Před 7 lety +4

    Come on, SOR3 music has aged so well, and was truly ahead of its time. More dynamic gameplay requires more fast-paced soundtrack and SOR3 definitely delivers in both departments. It's fun to play and master even nowadays while FF3 is just a very good game.

    • @AllardRT
      @AllardRT Před 7 lety +9

      Similar, but take a look at them side by side. SOR3 sprites have more detail and frames of animation and they have been redrawn. They look similar because they are drawn to be similar, but when seen side by side, they are obviously different.

    • @Dhoppler
      @Dhoppler Před 7 lety +6

      They have more details, frames of animations, more shading and actual facial features. You're insane if you think Axel and Shiva look the same. Even Galsia and the Big Bens look different. Hard to see with Donovan, bikers, and the Signals though..

    Even I was expecting "Final Fight 3" to win in this video, especially after they forgot to point out some of the other flaws that made "Streets Of Rage 3" the least popular game in the trilogy. For example, the original Japanase version of the game (called "Bare Knuckle 3" in Japan) had a much different story that was changed to be more suitable for the US audience, and there was also a boss character named Ash that can be unlocked as a playable character, but he was removed from the US version due to controversial reasons.

      Not broken, Normal dificulty is normal, hard difficulty is hard, simple as that.
      BK3 isn't "balanced", it's just piss-easy. It's a good thing for me that the american SoR3 is a bigger challenge, because BK3 on Very Hard wasn't hard at all.

    • @sonicmario64
      @sonicmario64 Před 9 lety

      MadGaz85 Now that I think about it, the very hard difficulty of SOR3 was also a reason why it's become the least popular title in the series, and I would have to agree with everyone else, especially since I have such a hard time being able to get past some of the bosses without using a continue in that game.

      Yeah, good point. I don't care so much about SNES vs. Genesis as I know I prefer the Super Nintendo for the classics, and because I grew up more with the Genesis as a younger teen, so the SNES feels newer and more exciting to me. And truth be told, I was more of an NES kid anyway. The Genesis was more of something else to mess around with from time to time. You know, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, etc.
      Anyway, I subbed as these videos work as great overviews of these games too.

    Great video, those Final Fight vs Streets of Rage videos are my favorites, can't wait for your next video.
    I love the music from Streets of Rage 3 it sounds darker like the whole setting of the game, and the colors and voice overs were fault of the bad american version, i think the reason why streets of rage 2 is such a success is because is such a great and accessible game, someone with little to no experience can beat the game on the easier difficulties and get familiar to the series and beat em ups in general, in streets of rage 3 they can't, because SOR 3's easy mode is actually Bare Knuckle's normal mode, Bare Knuckle 3 is a game that it's like Streets of Rage 2 but added a whole lot to it, the gameplay improved with lots of new moves, graphics, characters, presentation, and it's difficulty is fair and accessible to new players, the difficulty of the american version along with a soundtrack that's way different than what the series has offered might be the main reason why many people consider this a worse game, but i still think that the people should play the japanese version. BTW i also love Final Fight 3, it's my favorite of the series and brought lots of changes but the street fighter moves really doesn't work on beat em ups, and the two player mode with a CPU is full of slowdown which really ruins the game and just makes me want to play with 1 player, still great game.

    I'm glad to see the finale video as I've had to put my life on hold since the last video due to the sheer anticipation. Fun video as always. I wasn't sure how this one would go since FF3 was an improvement while SoR3 had some unpopular design choices, especially compared to the Japanese original. I got to try FF3 a while back and didn't like it as much as I hoped, mostly for the same reasons you guys mentioned. I also had issues with the special moves. Plus, I don't like Haggar's new design.
    As for SoR3, I prefer it in its Japanese form, but I like the game for the most part. The voice samples I think are one of the biggest problems. I like its music, though much of it is weird. It has some good stuff. My favorite additions are the meter for special moves, the ability to run, and the six-button support. SoR3 actually had redrawn sprites, but they were made to look similar to the previous game, but with more detail.
    Capcom made some top-quality beat-em-up games for the arcade. It's a real shame that their best stuff, in my opinion, never got proper home ports.
    Thanks again for another great video.

    Finally this episode is here!
    You guys miss out on a few things.
    Graphics: you talk about how SOR 3 is a copy of SOR2, but as i look at FF3 i see clearly its a copy of SOR 3. Backgrounds are seriously influenced and almost identical at times and this is my impression only from watching this video as i havent played FF3. Also characters are redrawn for streets of rage, its visible, maybe the only character that is the same is skate, so this was false information and dont forget there are 4 players to choose from in SOR3. With streets of rage released one year before Final fight 3 its clear that capcom cant cope with the quallity of sega beat em up and they had to copy from it.
    Sound: As the music may be not as melodic as the previous games, it fits very well at times. Its innovative and bold so you must give credit for that.
    Gameplay:
    There are new special moves in streets of rage 3, you show them in the video. One big point you are missing out is that there is environmental action, Falling barrels and strong wind at stage 3, bulldozer chasing you, the train which comes at the subway stage, rope traps, trap rooms with lazers, electircity and poisonous gas, also this was the stage where you can roam freely at the whole building having to do certain things within a time to advance, not just beat them to the boss. This is huge aspect of the gameplay that make the game one level above the regular beat em ups in general.

    • @Dreamer066680
      @Dreamer066680 Před 9 lety +1

      SuperHns
      Why?
      Sure the game has that heartwarming fun atmosphere and sor 3 is more industrial and dark, difference is not a bad thing.
      Sor 2 backgrounds are more inspiring, excluding the pirate and alien levels, which are not fitting at all for the game, however most of backgrounds are too similar to sor 1. I dont like character sprites in sor 3, they look like they are patched on the screen, not actually IN the screen. Musicwise sor 2 is good, but again i consider SOR 1 to have the best music of the franchise. Now lets talk about the most important, gameplay. Sor 2 has the worst gameplay of the 3 games. Basically all you have to do is mash the attack button till the end of the game. In ohter words, its dumbed down and shallow. When i try different tactics on the enemies i always get hit. And different tactics work in the other two games, you can do tactical maneuvering to grab opponents and throw them at the others, or to lure them at better attack angle for you. In addition Sor 3 has much more fast paced action, with run, more special moves and the upgrade system which i find awesome.

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 Před 9 lety +2

      Jayjay Okocha
      I agree Bare Knuckle 3 is great, but disagree with SoR2 being "shallow".
      The only big problem in BK3 IMO was that the sound effects weren't as good as SoR2. When punching on SoR2 it was so satisfying, and of course other problem was the craptastic localization by Sega of America.
      By the way, you forgot the return of team attacks removed in SoR2, and also pitfalls.

    While it's 100% obvious for me that Streets of Rage 3 is better than Final Fight 3 I, however, don't agree with a lot of your points:
    - music: Streets of Rage 3's soundtrack IS awesome and so ahead over most others soundtracks of its time! Final Fight 3 has rather dull music in comparison... And it's also a good thing that SoR 3's music have another style than the two previous games, overall variety is always welcome when well done like this.
    - gameplay: WTF mates?! SoR 3 makes some nice improvements over the already amazing second game with more moves, faster pace and more playable characters.
    - graphics: though looking way closer to SoR 2's sprites than SoR 2's sprites looked compared to SoR 1's sprites, SoR3's sprites are still clearly different from SoR 2 and Blaze is sexier than ever!
    - and finally you have to know that the japanese version, Bare Knuckle III, is even better than Streets of Rage 3! They, weirdly enough, cut a lot of things with SoR 3 but even despite this it's still a better game than Final Fight 3.
    So yeah, the Streets of Rage trilogy is that good!
    Anyway the video was fun to watch and you were still spot on in some aspects. Just dig a bit more and this will be perfect.

      they actually did say that the soundtrack for SOR3 was ahead of its time... but the general opinion, and mine is that it isn't all that great compared to the previous games.
      I'm no music expert but what does that even mean, ahead of it's time... how was SOR2's not when it's still remembered. It really doesn't sound memorable or all that good. But I won't say it sounds bad.

    Streets of Rage 3 needed to have Adam playable instead of Skate. It would have gone a long way in making the game feel fresh. Also the music is a mixed bad some is atrocious and some outstanding which is a step down from the first 2 which had no bad tracks. The sound effects are a step down also and sometime's don't even play. Additionally some of the environments are drab and uninspired especially compared to SOR 2. Like the video said SOR 2 set the bar so high it was damn near impossible to beat. The running and animations are nice and a slight step up. The added weapon specials and attack specials are a minimal improvement. Bare Knuckle 3 is a better balanced version of SOR 3.
    Final Fight 3 while being a nice improvement over 2 still has serious flaws. The max 3 enemy limit, chronic slowdown in 2P mode and absolutely no difficulty what so ever even on expert really hurt the experience. Also the music is mediocre minus a couple tracks which were shown in the video. Lastly the art style is a little lame in places and the bosses all share the hit and run strategy to beat them... boring. On the plus side the sprites are huge and graphics are good. The dashing and dashing specific attacks, weapon specific combo's, extra attacks/slams and specials are all sweet though.

    The music comparison is subjective. I enjoy the SoR3 soundtrack, and The Poets I (the City Hall music) is one of the best themes on the console imo. It's definitely an acquired taste though. The soundtrack is commonly credited to Yuzo Koshiro, but Motohiro Kawashima was actually the lead composer, with Yuzo assisting as a sound producer and secondary composer. He made the more experimental tracks like Inga Rasen (Dr Dahm), Shinobi Reverse (Yamato), and Crazy Train (Jet). I don't know if you've heard about SOR4, which is due out in the first half of 2020, but it plays well. I got to try an early build at a local expo.

      And say that "street fighter controls didnt worked". OMG dude.. i just DESTROYED creeps with all characeters.
      LUCIA was the most Dificult and Satisfying to MASTER. She throws some "roundhouse kicks" that even hit enemies that are not in the same line/lane than you.
      Guy just Pierces enemies with his fire. The RUN+SPECIAL+New movies+New COMBOS are the BEST thiing that happened and made the game much more DINAMIC and i never got tired of it!

  • @Michirin9801

    I can't believe you failed to mention the branching paths and secret rooms of Final Fight 3... Final Fight 3 has 2 main paths to beat the game, one easier, one harder but both are a blast to play through! Not to mention you can skip certain bosses if you find some secret rooms, you have even branching paths within stages in Final Fight 3! The end of stage 2 is an example of one... That enhances the gameplay value of FF3 to a level that no SoR or FF game before it can reach!
    And no, the graphics of Streets of Rage 2 and 3 are both inferior to those of Final Fight 3, The sprites and backgrounds are far more detailed and colourful in FF3, It also has animated backgrounds, and that sunset you mentioned does change the lighting! But you either failed to mention it or didn't mention it on purpose to try to make SoR3 look better... There's also a sunrise during the final boss battle, if you don't notice it is because you're on the edge of your seat trying to not get your a*s handed to you...
    Also, the special moves of FF3 aren't hard to do, you're just doing them wrong, I get them right every single time...
    Final Fight 3 is better than Streets of Rage 3 in every single way! It's also far superior to any version of any other Final Fight game too...

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 Před 9 lety +7

      Ruko Michiharu Adding branching paths doesn't change the fact that Final Fight 3's combat is slow, unchallenging and boring, just like Final Fight 2. As for the graphics, Streets of Rage has better animations on the characters, and the backgrounds often are more animated interacting with the actual play area, that doesn't happen often in FF3.
      Final Fight 3 is still mediocre compared to the original arcade game.

    • @Michirin9801
      @Michirin9801 Před 9 lety

      Marcel Weber Final Fight 3's combat isn't that slow, it's near perfect because it has so many more moves than both its predecessors and competitors, the backgrounds are filled with stuff for you to break, the animations may not be as fluid but the sprites are much more detailed, well-crafted and colourful, and Final Fight 3 wipes the floor with any version of FF1 including the arcade...
      Final Fight 1 is quite overrated, Mighty Final Fight on NES is more enjoyable than that...

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 Před 9 lety +5

      More moves means nothing if the game has only 3 enemies on-screen, retarded AI and piss-easy difficulty. This is the main reason of why Final Fight 3 is a joke compared to the arcade, or SoR2/3.
      Final Fight arcade overrated? lol, sorry but i think you fail to understand the genre at all if you think THE beat 'em up is overrated.

    • @Michirin9801
      @Michirin9801 Před 9 lety

      Marcel Weber Final Fight 1 doesn't have much going for it, if you beat the game once you've seen it all, Final Fight 3 has more replay value, WAY better music, better graphics, more characters and it only has 3 enemies on-screen if you play 2 players (and even then sometimes it has 4 but it slows down when it has 4) but it has 4 enemies on-screen many many times if you play single player...
      And yeah, the game is easy, so what? If you really want a challenge with it, try 1ccing Final Fight 3 on the harder path without skipping any boss on expert...

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 Před 9 lety +4

      Ruko Michiharu
      Funny you say that about replayability, because i have beaten countless times Final Fight arcade, probably 100+, while only a couple of times Final Fight 3 due to how boring and unchallenging it is even on "Expert" difficulty. Replayability is based on challenge and mastering the gameplay of a game, not on gimmicky features that don't improve the core gameplay of a game, like branching paths. Maybe that works in a RPG, but not necessarily in a beat 'em up.
      I remember only one time seeing 4 enemies on screen in Final Fight 3, and it was an elevator with midget enemies. Graphics? please, Final Fight arcade has a much bigger resolution, bigger and more detailed sprites, more colorful and memorable characters and a lot more going on the screen. Music is matter of taste i guess, but i prefer by far the arcade, the only memorable theme in Final Fight 3 was stage 1.
      "1ccing" Final Fight 3 sounds like a chore to me, i prefer to 1cc Final Fight or to play SoR2/3 in harder difficulties, those are actual challenging and replayable games.

    Good video
    SoR 3 as a game is pretty damn good but the games problems stem mostly from oversea redesigns.
    Axel has yellow and black clothing this time around simply because the US version just felt like making it so, same for Blaze's Silver clothing.The US version also lacks a specific boss do to censorship, so because of this not only do you lose the ability to fight said boss but you also lose the ability to play as said boss as well. However, the major problem with SoR3 imo lies in its difficulty, the game is just too difficult for its own good. Difficulty is enjoyable when its balanced and spread out correctly, presented slowly in an progressively escalating manor. In the US port they increased the damage & speed of the enemies without taking into consideration how it effects the game play and so you end up with broken enemies who do way too much damage way too fast, couple that with a game that was already designed from the start to have the enemies out number you and what you end up with is a game where you either spam or be spammed which grows tiring and really downplays a lot of the more awesome aspects of the games fighting engine.
    Outside of its oversea problems I think the other problem that makes 3 less then 2 is it lacks greatly in the vivid color department unlike its predecessors. 3 has a much more gritty color palette and style to it making the game visually seem more run of the mill with other beat em ups at the time, combine that with a much more gritty sounding soundtrack and you have a game that doesn't quite capture the image and style that the series was known for up until this point.
    I still like the game but the US version is severely botched, play the Japanese version, its cheaper and a lot more fun.
