Genesis ate SNES'S lunch with this game. Sega you could play as all of characters, jump into the background plus the music was 🔥
Yeah, even though Fatal Fury 1 isn't a very good game in general, the music alone makes the Genesis/Mega Drive version better. There's just no impact with the SNES music whereas the drums and bass really thump on the Sega version.

@@nmpltleopardi I wouldn't say awesome, the game is allright for its time, but feels very limited compared to Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, however it was the first one from the series so that can be forgiven, specialy since right afterwards they kicked in the Fatal Fury series into gold status.

@@Arayig1982 Fuck no they don’t. Wii straight up murdered its rivals, Switch is selling like hot cakes and even their consoles like the N64 and GC brought a lot to the table. N64 brought straight out the box 4-player gaming, popularized analog sticks (may not have been the first but they did it better), controller vibration technology, true 3-D gaming and created the best reviewed game of all time, Ocarina of Time. The GC introduced some new incredible and innovative franchises like Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion and gave us tons of pure excellent games. Even the Wiiu misfire had a lot of great ideas behind it. I could literally go on and on and on about the great things Nintendo has done for the video game industry from its inception in gaming all the way to current times if you don’t think Nintendo is a good company and you don’t think that they still don’t have a lot of influence on the games we play and you honestly are dumb enough to think Nintendo is an important anymore you’re a goddamn motherfucking idiot and I’ve got nothing to say to you because you know Not a motherfucking thing about video games because I could come up with 50 ways why you’re a fucking idiot and you’re fucking wrong

I'm a former Nintendo fan, loved the "console war" back in the 90's. Today I'm into Xbox. But I have to admit, in this one, gameplay is king, and Genesis version has the better gameplay.
By a severe long shot! Fatal Fury 2 was the same. Nintendo looked better, but Sega's moves was super easy to pull off, their combo system was a beast, and you can select the 4 bosses by holding start, and scroll down past the bottom characters. Super Nintendo was more details, and Sega was more gameplay.

There should have been more references to the arcade version. I agree that the Genesis port is better, even with two missing characters. The worst part about the Super NES port is the input lag in the controls.

Guys, please listen to Sound Beach on the ARCADE and notice that the Genesis version is WAY more similar than the SNES. I know people like the SNES sintetizer, but it shouldn't be about opinion, but fidelity to the source.

Until this day , i still kick myself for seeing this game for the genesis at my local mom and pops shop back in 93 and not buying it because i was so vain , saying ''how can a neo geo game look and play any good on a simple 16 bit system ?''

@Bob Cook yeah, those early snk games were not that great, thinks like sengoku 1 and even burning fight...but when we reached fatal fury special and art of fighting 2, well, the difference was staggering , but i agree, the early snk games were a but underwhelming to say the least and not much better than what normal 16bit hardware was capable of.

Also under the gameplay category, the special moves.
On Snes version special moves has a second delay when performing special moves and at times it gets frustrating which takes away the fun.
On Sega Genesis special moves can be pulled off smoothly and easily without any delay or hassle.
I can't wait until I get to witness the greatness of Earthworm Jim's pretzel art Expo.
Was never a big fan of fighting games, but man, the Dan & Pat Comedy Skits are at the top of their game this time.

I'm guessing the SNES version was half-assed in development because they knew they would not be pulling people away from Street Fighter 2. On the Genesis, Fatal Fury came out before Street Fighter (I think) so they had more reason to make that version better.
i think they told the people who made the snes version that would be a single player game only, and in the last minute they add the multiplayer since is a fighting game
SNK had a cross licensing agreement with Sega. If SNK gave Sega the superior port over Nintendo's port, Sega would continue to release Sega's exclusive games to the NEO GEO. Fatal Fury Special was a way to kiss Nintendo's butt after being screwed over by Sega in their cross licensing agreement.

I’m a Nintendo fan, but the SNES version could NOT in anyway touch the Genesis game. That said, NeoGeo fans are likely laughing at those 2 versions.
You can get a neo geo pretty inexpensively now. I have an arcade to home conversion I got from china. it's pretty cool.
Maybe so,but at the time of release, not a lot of people was going to spend $$100-$200 for a game. And the Genesis version comes closer to the Neo-Geo version than the SNES version.
@@evvierusso4528 You can emulate a Neo Geo perfectly on a potato now...it was super powerful in its time, but at its heart it was still a 16-bit system, even if it had a very unusual GPU setup.

Well technically the arcade version did have the ending text but of course it also showed Geese falling from the window.
It also uses the normal attack instead of a super move. I can see their reasoning though, since both versions did indeed leave out the falling cutscene for some reason.
The writing was really good. The acting was great too. This was hilarious! I love you guys!

And the Waco joke actually led me to do some research, causing me to find out you were actually referencing Branch Davidian leader, David Koresh, and the Waco siege where agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tried to arrest David after his plans to stockpile weapons and explosives at a ranch outside town were uncovered.

I’m watching these out of order but I convinced a King Of Monsters 2 Console Wars episode would be GOLD! SNK ports on both systems were great for different reasons and KoM2 highlights this the best I think.

Hello! Here's some trivia about 10:11: The reason Nintendo put the text in was perhaps to stay faithful to the original arcade version. See, in the arcade version, the text read, ''September 7th, 1908, Geese Howard dies in the hospital 3 hours after falling from a high rise.''. However, Nintendo left out the short sequence showing Geese Howard full after the player knocks him off the high rise.

Even now that wouldn't sell to a middle class family. Sure we may buy a ps5 for $400 to $500 but each game is not $200 a piece!

Seriously do you even have kids. Would you really buy your kids a game system then turn around and buy them games at $200 a piece? Sure you might have had a few teenagers that were die hard fans willing to shell out $200 a piece. But I can guarantee to you that most middle income people were not willing to do that. That's why the system failed!

Solid episode. It's awesome to see you guys cover the SNK fighter that started it all. Hope you cover the sequel soon (Fatal Fury 2 for the Genesis and SNES, or FF Special for the SNES and Sega CD)
For some weird reason, Neo-Geo ports to 16 bit consoles are always more interesting to compare than say the ports of Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat games, because the Neo-Geo was basically a home console in an arcade cabinet itself, it kind of makes the things the 16-bit consoles are lacking a lot more noticable.
