This is a terrible way to measure the size of an economy because you can generate a lot of energy and still use it inefficiently, that’s why you see a lot of underdeveloped countries on this list. When a country doesn’t have proper infrastructure and is lagging behind technologically their only option is to scale things up. China’s energy generation is still coal based.

As hidrelétricas do Brasil são a pura potência. E para fazê-las funcionar, foi necessário criar alguns dos maiores reservatórios de represa do mundo, cada um deles com muitos quilômetros de área alagada e que geram uma vazão de água impressionante.
Isso só importa se o pais tem crescimento econômico, A década passada foi perdida no brasil. Ter grandes usinas sem um capital de investimento em engenharia para transforma matérias primas em produto final não adianta.

Eu não sei se vai responder a sua pergunta mas talvez pode ser isso, em alguns estados Brasileiros o cidadão teve incentivo para a produção de energia solar ou fotovoltaica, no caso de Minas Gerais inicialmente o estado subsidiava quem queria colocar energia fotovoltaica em casa, o estado subsidiava porque as placas de energia eram importadas e muito caras inicialmente, em 2013 o governo federal fez o primeiro leilão de energia fotovoltaica no Brasil e desde então foi um sucesso o preço das placas foi só abaixando agora essas placas serão construídas no Brasil vão abaixar mais ainda, se discute muito no governo federal a construção de casas populares com placas fotovoltaicas para população de baixa renda, já se constroem casas populares com placas de aquecedor solar ou seja a pessoa não precisa de ligar o chuveiro elétrico o sol aquece a agua, o aquecedor solar já é uma realidade agora está começando o fotovoltaico e isso de acordo com que o preço vai abaixando vai instalando cada vez mais, energia eólica é a mesma coisa custou a instalar no Brasil mas a partir do momento em que o governo fez o primeiro leilão desse tipo de energia foi só sucesso, no Brasil está quase impossível de construir grandes hidroelétricas por causa da questão ambiental, então a tendência é todo cidadão ter geração própria de energia, não sei se respondi a sua indagação mas talvez esse pode ser o caminho.

It just matter of manufacturing, China is biggest market in the world so it needs more electricity to produce more products.
