Off Grid Cabin in the Alaskan Wilderness
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 14. 01. 2021
- Our first overnight trip to our cabin in the woods was a success! We head out on a 60 mile snowmachine excursion to access the remote cabin and when we arrive there is a entire day's worth of cleaning to do. After settling down for our first hot meal, cooked courtesy of the mini camp stove, we get a good night's rest for the long journey home. As we leave our new cabin we can't help looking forward to the many more adventures yet to come!
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure đ
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! đ

Y'all outside in Alaska without gloves grabbing frozen things. Me, a Texan, sitting in my heated office contemplating putting on gloves. LOL!!
I'm watching in my beachside casita in SW Mexico lol. No clunky gloves needed
đđ brilliant!!! I thought the same thing - my fingers were cold just watching!! I need to toughen up.... đđ
I donât know about anyone else, but seeing your videos pop up makes my day. Also I really enjoy the long videos. Itâs almost like itâs own little tv show. So happy for the both of you acquiring this new property and opportunity. My wife and I bought a remote plot of land along a river in the mat su valley and we are planning on moving up there from the lower 48 this coming summer. Alaska is the land of freedom and opportunity and we canât wait to live up there full time to live our dreams just like you two are.
Tobias Patterson that sounds lovely đ thank you for watching!
Absolutely!!
Right?!?! I feel the same!
Funny as I donât see Alaska as the land of freedom....and that is good because variety is the spice of life!
My preferred Friday night viewing! I love this channel
"sometimes Beau has a hard time figuring life out" same Beau, same.
I know I heard that and I thouht awww beauâ„ I can relate
I love your dog Bow( forgive my spelling of his name). He seems so mellow and calm natured. He looks like he just goes with the flow and doesnât complain even though he probably doesnât want to. What a sweet guy.
You might want to get a good Carbon Monoxide Alarm for that cabin what with a wood stove and propane indoor heaters etc.... Could save your lives!
In the previous video they packed one.
They have one
Kkkk see vf
I can't wait to watch this when my husband gets out of work. I made the mistake of giving him crap in the past for watching new SLA videos without me and now I gotta wait for him đ
My wife got mad when I told her I was watching this while she was still working, lol.
Same here! My husband and I watch this together â€
Even people in an off grid house need a cabin in the woods. Love it.
Wow, I live in the woods but am not off grid. But garden all summer and freeze fruits. Love it !
@@karinhopkins6158 đ
I just LOVE how you guys look out for the animals first đ
Me too!
Looks like Bo/Beau has exactly 0 F's to give about the cold.
I know he was cussing them lovingly the entire trip.đâ€ïž
đđ that is exactly what I was thinking!! He looked like he was saying ....âsigh.... we moved here WHYâ?
Itâs so weird seeing you eat food out of packages! You two have to be one of the hardest working couples around. Loving the new adventure!
you folks are living a special life. Thanks for sharing with us.
Iâm re-watching all of your videos and I love the amount of attention youâve paid to improving your production quality.
I think the reason the previous owner of your wilderness cabin only came out once is because of the effort required to take the journey. It takes people like yourselves who have an adventurous spirit to make the trek.
Oh my, you two really don't realize how much you contribute to our sanity. We can never thank you enough for taking us along on your journey. (That last shot of Bandit doing the highstep with his long legs left me laughing).
I feel like you guys found a place that inspired Bob Ross to paint "A Cabin In The Woods" type paintings.
Thanks for sharing your life with us. I am not medically nor physically capable of doing what you guys are doing. Being able to be a part of your journey makes me feel like I am there with you on part of your adventure into the Alaska wilderness.
Me too
Miss Ariel and Eric, thank u guys soooo much for always making my day.still contracting, going on ten yrs.away from my wife, kids and grandkids.after a long 12 hr day,a sip of Seagrams 7 and one of ur videos makes it all worth while.gonna hang it up next yr and get back to the life u guys are living.love everything about yâall.be safeđ
Terrific scenery for a Christmas Card picture.
Can't wait to see how lovely the scenery looks during summertime.
It would have been even nicer if their noodles had tomato sauce.
I've never watched a video on UTube that lasted this long and I enjoyed every minute of it. I think it was an adventure for all of us.
You might try a Matthew Posa video. Some are almost 3 hrs long. Wonderful to fall asleep to. If you can close your eyes and stop watching.
I just stumbled upon your channel, and I loved watching the whole thing. Of course I was shivering the whole time. Very rustic, but cozy. Greetings from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Really enjoying Alaska while watching ur videos and Love the way u treat ur dogs đ
I'm going to watch the whole thing as well. I used to not watch long videos until I watched a channel called Abandoned Japan there is a guy Kurt Bell that walks around to like old farm houses, abandoned shrines and all things if the past in rural Japan. Very very informative
@@AikawaMartialArts I've been watching these guys for a while now and have been 99.9% satisfied with them. Hope you enjoyed it.
You guys are living like pioneers. Me and my girl lived in the country side from March to December with more than you had (running water, hot water from the sun, heating with wood, toilet outside, shower outside, kitchen outside). We called it quits in December and went to the city. When cold got to us it became too much. We enjoyed it a bunch until then. But you seem to have a blast in those hard conditions.
I saw zero signs that Beau enjoyed this trip.
So picky with all that food too lol. When you're that far out you make the food work lol.
agreed!
Perhaps some padding on the bottom of the sledge would help - heâs no puppy. Itâs probably cold and bumpy otherwise. Good way to know fer sure - get in there and have your husband drive you around for 20 minutes. It amazing what you will discover. Best wishes.
Yes, they needed some padding.
12:26: broke my heart in a good way; Daddy picking up Bo ; he looks so lost and scared. Wish I could give Bo a hug, what precious dogs you have.
That roof trick with the snow was impressive!
Yes, I have a roof rake for the house but for my shed and other sloped pitches this is a really great way to get the weight of heavy snow off!!! Genius! You can control it better than throwing the ice pucks for snow roof melting, plus no chemicals. Crazy that there could be earthquakes there, tipping over maple syrup. What a wild and wonderful adventure!!!! Love it! Thank you †for sharing
You can use the part where theyâre going through the pantry items as a drinking game⊠Just take a shot every single time Eric says the word âoldâ lol
The best part is the love and respect and care you show your dogs. Love it.
Being from Texas my dog starts shaking when it 60° f outside. He could not last a day in Alaska. Beau and Bandit are champs!
I love how y'all treat the boys, and take them everywhere possible. Greetings from Texas.
Your comment made me smile...I call em pups.
I absolutely love this video! I donât know why but itâs very comforting. In this age where cellphones are the norm watching yâall doing chores around the cabin, drinking coffee/ hot chocolate, cooking and playing board games was so awesome! Love your fur babiesâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
I found you guys randomly like a month ago and have been binge watching your past videos. I am so into all of this totally awesome.,đ
Honest to God. To watch two people have such a simple, sweet adventure, when most of us are stuck trapped in our homes, is just giving me life tonight. I can totally imagine the fun of exploring this cabin, trying the old hot chocolate and sleeping under some dusty blankets in the cold. What could be better. Thanks for sharing your fun with us while we aren't having much. I smiled for the whole hour!
Yes indeed, best hour I've had in a heck O long time. Thank you.
Take it easy on Bo. Heâs trying to break in his new boots
Iâm loving these older videos. I bet building a gazebo structure with screening and a picnic table would be super handy there. A screened in structure anywhere with heavy insects is always a good thing. You guys could knock that out in a weekend, right?đ
It's January 9th 2022 and just watched this episode for the 1st time. Very cool. I look forward to more.
In a time of crisis, you guys are the MVPs. I donât know how Iâd spend my time if you guys didnât upload these great videos.
Yes. Gentle people, beautiful scenery, dogs, just back to basics :)
We have to learn to be prepared, and not a soft marshmallow city person. I am from a rural state, and moved 18 hours to the city for work. So I know how it is to tough it out. We all think about readiness.
I can recommend getting fur of reindeer or sheep for the dogs to lay on in the sled. Keeps them warm when travelling.
Greetings from Sweden
I just had to pause video and say how heartwarming it is the way you treat your dogs. They look like they're very grateful under those covers. Looking forward to seeing your adventures up at the cabin. Beautiful video as usual. Thank you. Karen from Canada
I really enjoy your videos. My family are in North Carolina and we just can't imagine how y'all survive with all the cold and snow.
So excited for an hour long video!!
Yes, more pleaseđ
I love how you treat your dogs. I wish everyone was like that. Loves for Bo and Bandit
Same! Think I've said on more than one of thier videos, I Fing love seeing spoiled doggos.
It is lovely to see indeed.
It's not a surprise really, considering how much more important good pets become in rural and remote areas in terms of practicality as well as the usual companionship.
Especially dogs and cats.
Sandra Westley my tiny âChorkieâ wouldnât cope with any of this, sheâs cold at 1c which is 33f but sheâs treated to the best care, after a awful start in life, probably coming from an illegal Farm, terrified of her shadow, but now a confident happy little soul, whiteout a nasty bone in her body.
Honestly this kind of life sounds great right about now especially in the world around us falling apart I could definitely see it happening
Iâve been binge watching for a couple weeks since I found yâall. I went back to when yâall left Oregon. Yâall are amazing at overcoming obstacles. Youâve come a long way so far. Canât wait to catch up to where ya are today.
What a life you 2 young people have. None of this 9 to 5 craziness keep it up!
"I'm really not cold" - Arielle. At the same time breathing like a dragon. I like how you look after your dogs.
Haha thought the sameđ
Hahaha, my thoughts exactly
Top priority. You nailed it.
Stove, firewood, and snow removal.
You guys are true Alaskans and I would definitely trust you with my life if I were ever out in the Wilderness !
I recommend that you look into Heimo and Edna Korth. He raised his entire family (4 daughters) in a small cabin in the very remote Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In fact, heâs one of the only permanent residents in an area larger than most states.
Not to take anything away from Eric and Ariel, I think they are great. But, the Korthâs optimize what you mean by a true Alaskan. Hunting, trapping, fishing and building your own cabin. Check them out if you dig this kind of lifestyle.
"Im not really that cold" she says as they both sit their eating looking like dragons đ đ
Bow:" I'm too old for this shit"
Me too lol
Facts!
Relax! We are never too old for surviour!!
kamil I wish I was younger I wouldn't mind living like this đđŒđșđž
âOver water.. frozen waterâ Bo whimpers quietly lol
Am I the only one who thought the minute they walked into that place: âbro, you gotta get that wood stove working by nightfall.â ????
The stove would've been the first thing I woulda got in order. Wasting time on other non life threatening matters, noobie moves!!!
@@tsar-bomba2413 i agree I would have been on that stove before anything. He could have vented that stove out a window and kept that place warmer then that little propane heater. But thatâs just me. I donât think it was in that bad of shape to just get the stack back up through the roof and get a small fire going. As tall as that stack is it wouldnât be that hot going through the room unless he got a huge fire going maybe.
It's a man thing . He is not at all a man
I haven't watched your videos for a few months because we had to postpone our trip up to Alaska and I was sad, but we now have it rebooked and so I am so excited to get up there again. Your videos are calming and beautiful. I love your idea of the journal. You guys are great! P.S. I love your cups and plates. Its my favorite pattern of Corelle!
I was a little worried until you got the wood stove going đ
A simple cargo zip line could pull the sleds up the hill aided by some tackle blocks to reduce the load.
Thatâs looks like so much fun. I bet summer time the dogs will have a blast and yay for getting the wood stove working. What an awesome little cabin and all the cool things inside it came with.
Thank you so much for a great initial video. You guys remind me so much of my late wife and me when we first got married. God how I miss her and all of the spontaneous adventures we had. Please be good to each other and know that you only get one chance at this.
You know you're old when the 90s seem like yesterday, some of the best years of my life snowmobiling all the time back then
I was going to comment the same thing. To me the 1920's is "old"!
Bo is straight up not feelin it lmao
I somehow stumbled across your channel about a week ago and I've been binge watching it every spare second since! ABSOLUTLY love your content! Thank you for giving us an eye into Alaska living!! Please keep this going!!! Watching from Michigan!
Your channel is a refreshing departure from the world right now...thank you both! Iâve binge watched it all and can both relate and appreciate your lifestyle, and definitely relate with the weather! Iâm a farmer myself, and know the homesteading lifestyle of my past and current ways....you both are the real deal! Keep living the dream! And keep your content proprietary and independent!
You look like two kids Christmas morning opening up their presents, going through all the stuff. The dogs are looking so sad and cold. As pretty as it is, can't wait to see the property without the snow. Maybe, in the future, you could build a pulley, zip line, to make it easier to get supplies up the hill. Enjoy this new adventure!!
The dogs are too long in the cold natur, not good for them
The dogs looked frozen need more warm sleeping bags just for them specially when they are travelling on the way across the ice but apart from that great to watch
The notebook log is a great idea. You guys will have a great time looking back on your cabin adventures in a couple of years. Enjoy the cabin life my friends.
Friends have a cabin in north Ontario and hav e kept a journal of every trip and who was there going back to the early 60 s and to this day still do in 2021 . They photo copy all the pages just to save as the history of the cabin
When I watch a video of yours It puts a smile on my face. You both take the time to explain yourselves with what ever you are doing.Liked watching you both go through all that left stuff. And like when you talk about all your trees that you have. I love this. It's nature.just Love your videos.đ
Itâs very difficult to maintain a cabin in winter weather but you guys are absolutely amazing to maintain this property.Keep maintaining and smilingâŠ
Poor O Bo !!!!!!! He's just not feelin it. I will live vicariously through yall, I wouldn't want to have to go through that much to get home...it is beautiful !!!!!
This was just so much fun and the puppies were adorable wrapped in in their blankets. Hope all four of you have rested and recovered from all the fun by now and thanks for including all of us in an adventure we wouldn't otherwise be able to have.
Way to go guys! We are on our 3rd hundred page logbook for our cabin in off the Petersville Road. Keep the log going and insist all visitors make a comment. Passive rain collection is a big help. Put a sauna on the list. To get a nights sleep in June a small bug tent is essential used on the deck or on the floor inside.
Dying from cuteness over the dog boots & jacket. đđâđŠșđđâđŠș
âItâs says itâs for four people but we only have two. Do the dogs count?â đ you are so cute! đ
Watching you guys in that climate made me put on my coat in the room.
Cool cabin guys! You should have a lot of years of enjoyment there. Yes there will be plenty of hard work repairing and maintaining but youâll have so much fun when itâs done.
Bo looked so sad when you put his boots on.... so cute. I love following your 'crazy adventures. You two have so much energy! One day, I will have to visit Alaska.
I just paused the vedio and thought let me comment first ... Was waiting for this vlog for the whole time... I really appreciate you guys.. Much love from India â€ïž
India! WOW!
"This pancake mix is from 1995, so we probably won't be eating that."
I hear weakness in your voice. đđ
if it isn't opened, it's still good..
@The Aussie Family just donât eat it yourself đ đđ€Ł
I know a youtuber who's eaten MRE's from WW2, and tried hard tack from the civil war!
Only about 6 years 3 months in above freezing temperatures so it might be ok if packages are sealed. ;)
I think the baking powder in that pancake mix is probably too old to rise. Too bad, Krusteze is awesome.
I'm happy to see yall care for your 4 legged friends properly. Some folks don't understand that a dog is family and should be treated with care and love. So I'm gonna like and watch your vids.
Need to insulate their travelling pod. Make it comfier and warmer for them. Love how you are with them.
Dogs look thrilled.
Poor Bo. Sometimes I feel like that.
Hi, to the both of you. You two are the first camping show I watched. I followed you and was quite ( and your dogs) taken by it. I wandered where you went because the cabin progressed thruout it all. I stayed with you and told whomever would listen about this. I live in manhattan and ran a jazz club and a singer myself. This was the Very First Video I saw of yours. Now I'm completely watching many other people's videos. Your stuff wasn't coming up and now your back. Its jan.17th, 2022. I know now your a Brand. That's great. Carry on. Peace to you.
Let me know what your up to.
These 2 people eat much more food, than most of the people I know (who HAVE all the conveniences) and they do it "off grid" with NO conveniences! Amazing!
"I read the instruction, sounds legit"
I laughed so hard
I love snow - at your place! I don't ever want it at my place.
I wished you guys would do a video at least every other day. I so enjoy watching and learning from you both. Updates on the 4 legged children?? Would also love to see your whole house inside and out. God Bless you both!!
Great video, nice couple. Thanks for sharing your life adventure with us. It's 2:13 am here in Chicago, I watched the entire video.
My young kids love to watch this kind of video of yours. It is like they have adventure right along with you. Your dogs so adorable. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
I was looking forward to this video so much, and it surpassed my expectations. It is so much fun to find all those "treasures" and guess how and what all of the rich, pioneering and exploring history happened there in the remote, wild wilderness of Alaska. Very inspiring, and as Ariel mentioned, the chance of a lifetime. Chapter one.
A wonderful way to finish the day..much love from Germany guys đ€đ€
Absolutely love this video. I like the long detailed scenes/editing. I could watch hours & hours of this.
Ya'll are amazing what an absolute gem, this is an absolutely beautiful place, thankyou so much for sharing!âș
Lived off grid for 16 years, enjoyed every minute of it but so done with that and the expense...a lot of money in sleds, etc..a lot of time too...in AK.
Nancy Yow yes we couldn't agree more, the experience comes at a price.
our wood stove installer gave us this tip when trying to start a stove in a super cold place....first light a bunch of paper and hold it in the stove where the pipe goes up, (maybe do this a few times depending on the length of stove pipe) this warms the air in the pipe and gets it to draw properly,
On another channel I watch the guy does this with the paper.
Wood stove life...need a draft
I THANK YOU for letting us all in your life. I get so inspired and happy every time I watch a video from you. You really live your life together and that is what matters. To decide how to live ones life is a wonderful gift. I must say that I know so much about Alaska now because I have been following you for quite some time now and Alaska is really fantastic.
I enjoy viewing all your videos! This one however, is my favorite. I live an Alaska adventure vicariously through these wonderful videos. Keep posting, PLEASE!
This was the best video! I canât tell you how much I enjoyed every minute of this! If I was younger this would have been my way of life.
"We got coffee, people". Love this video. Congratulations, you guys!
What an awesome trip! I loved coming along! Looking forward to more videos as you improve upon the cabin and land.
Thanks for sharing your new adventure with us -- a remote off grid cabin on a lake is awesome.
I purely enjoyed myself. When I die I want to return to this world as a dog living with y'all!
Me too....xxx
I am a herpetologist in Texas. Our big joke is the unabridged encyclopedia of snakes of Alaska. We had a few made up as gag gifts. Nice hard cover and 500 blank pages. Great video looks cold glad I am not there in person. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your adventures. Oh who takes care of the cat?
Congratulations on the cabin! Seeing all the old food boxes etc was great brought me back to my childhood
Great video. You two are such adventurers! I got my calendar and love it. I have it hanging in my laundry room where I see it several times a day.
Those snowshoes are working well! Glad you got the woodstove working! You got so much done!
The dogs look like, âWe didnât sign up for this.â
I know lol. Beau loves his humans, but perhaps wishes sometimes that they lived in a warmer locale haha.
LOL đ yeah I was thinking the dogs thinking you can f right off!
Dog's " humans think this is fun?"
Iâve never seen a dog that likes having anything on their feet. Itâs hilarious to watch how they will try to walk. You can just tell itâs very uncomfortable and unnatural for them. Still, great to see you looking out for them.
thanks for the laff putting boots on dogs! how can the animals be exhausted after the rode all the way there?
I'm so glad the dogs got to warm up over night. They would have struggled otherwise.
Seria legal vcs voltar no verĂŁo sem neve pra gente ver a beleza do lugar aonde fica sua nova cabana
You guys live a life of people's dream, especially like me who have never seen snow before. I hope I can do stuffs like this in the future. Thanks for the video!
