Just ten days before England had pulled off an extraordinary win at Trent Bridge, in one of the closest Test matches ever recorded. Yet at the very next game at Old Trafford, the two teams were there again. England needed only one wicket, Australia needed to survive 24 deliveries.

In a team made up of superstars and legends, Brett Lee really shone throughout the 2005 Ashes series. Not only with his performances with both bat and ball, but also in the sportsmanship that he showed in every game. I already had a lot of respect for him as a player before that series, but afterwards I'd gained a lot of respect for him as a person.
Honestly, as an Englishman who watched every ball of that thrilling series, looking back on it now I honestly think that England won the Ashes on the first morning of the Edgbaston test, when Glenn McGrath injured himself in the warmup. He had ripped through England in the first test at Lord's, but without his metronomic bowling in the second, England manage to eke out an advantage and their confidence just soared from there. What a special series, though. I'll never forget it.

I know what Vaughan would have been saying in the team huddle at the end... “Look at them celebrating. Celebrating a draw. They’re happy they escaped. They used to know they could beat us. Now the invincibility has gone and they’re CELEBRATING NOT LOSING”. And history would prove he was right. Now they only really consistently win at home. Or by doctoring the ball.

In the last day of a test match you should be able to take all 10 wickets!! Especially in those days, tailenders in those days were genuine tailenders, they didn't practice batting and they couldn't really hold a stick like today's tailenders do!! In those days if a tail ender made a few runs it was a big Deal!! These days the players focus on every department of the game!! The tailender these days can bat, Australia done well to get 370 odd and save the draw, the bowlers should be able to offer at least 10 chances on the final day for a victory!!
