As someone with great interest in cinematography, that shot of rorschach slowly closing in while the door swings is fucking incredible.
Yes it is
Feeds you with little glimpses and just enough for your imagination to fill the rest
Thank you! It swung back and forth till it was just him in the shot
As someone who eats salad, it certainly was a great shot.
The audio is on point too. The whoosh as the door swings going lower and lower each cyle brining it closer to a heartbeat. Brilliant.
I think it symbolizes the bad guy (sorry dont remember his name) death
The guard got all brave after the inmates got knocked out.
His gun had 5-6 bullets in it, maybe 2 reloads, but there were more than 18 prisoners. Still, if 2 people save your life, pointing a gun at them is considered a stupid idea.
Unless the warden had gotten on to him about following the laws (including the law against superheroes), so the guy was painfully maliciously complying with the warden's orders. As long as he has a safe printed copy of the warden's orders to arrest superheroes, he can claim the injuries are in the line of duty and per the warden (aka covered by the prison health care program), rather than personal initiative (and having to pay out of pocket)
It was 1 on 1 for a change 🤣
@@toddkes5890 I love nerds 😅

Great scene and you have to love how polite he is when he greets Dan & Laurie.
Especially after she corrected him before saying she didn’t want to be referred to as Silk Specter when he first visited her.
So he respected her wishes and referred to her as Ms Jupiter.
Rorschach has the best manners and most brutality of all the watchman.
Only super hero who will break in to Dan’s place to help himself to a can of beans and doesn’t require them to be heated up.
Fine like this.
Oz had some great manners too.
@@nofun594 ah yes the smartest man on the cinder as Eddie Blake called him.
The really funny part was that he wasn't surprised to see the two of them. It's like they were right on cue to provide him a ride out.
He’s also a hypocritical, judgmental, self righteous murderer who kills to make himself feel better more than inflicts justice. He’s also psychologically wrecked and anything involving sex makes him furious and disgusted. The graphic novel portrays him more as a demented reflection of the state of western society at the time.
@@MikeLinPA Well, you can’t really gauge surprise on a masked man. I’m not sure his cynical loner ass expected anyone to come rescue him, or give him a ride.
1:17 -- Here we see the smartest inmate in the prison: the guy who stayed in his cell while everybody else was lining up to get their ass kicked.
Even though it’s obviously a center for the absolute maniac degenerate prisoners, I still like to imagine that guy did something extremely minor like jaywalking and was put there by mistake
Ikr! 🤣
"Keep it down! I'm trying to get some sleep here!"
I'm reminded of a scene in a war comic, supposedly based on real events= A Long-Range Desert Group of the British is motoring away from destroying a Luftwaffe base. Between them and the desert is one German guard at a gate-hut. At first he's about to shoot at them. Then he thinks, rushes back to his hut, lifts up the barrier, stands there, saluting the LRDG as they drive past. The LRDG captain orders his men to 'Men, salute! the smartest man in the German army!" Another incident, from the Spanish Civil War, a Republican not firing at a retreating Loyalist, as the retreater was also busy pulling his pants up, and shooting him would've ruined the joke. Last one, from the Great War, a Canadian sniper firing at a German's--newspaper, blowing it out of the startled German's hands. Second shot, took out the German's--chair back legs, collapsing the German to the floor.
@@3headedsnake388 It could have been a major, but non-violent, felony. Something like embezzling from a huge corporation, that would land him in prison, but wouldn't tick off the other prisoners (and might even make them inclined to help him out, if the government didn't find the money).
"You've got it wrong. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!"
Also a favorite line.
It's "none of you seem to understand", not "you've got it wrong"
"I know you are, but what am I"

A decade out of action and Silk Spectre and Night Owl II still had it
We pretty much knew they still had it earlier when the knot tops tried jumping them in the alley
I feel like Watchmen is so character and dialog focused at times that you forget that all these people are top-level fighters.
@Matias Bolyos I'm not sure about Jupiter but Nite Owl II actually IS superhuman because of his suit. His suit actually allows him to punch holes into concrete walls with ease, increases his physical strength, and also has quite a few electric gadgets. Now this is a stretch but Jupiter might actually have some superhuman capabilities because The Comedian is her father. The Comedian is this Universe's version of a Super Soldier. His body is actually enhanced kind of like Captain America's.
Silk spectre 2
They still got it when they were getting mugged by a group of notch-top and then later in the film they started to getting it on.

0:30 one of the coolest moments in the whole movie
Genuinely fucking clever and badass, and it’s not even a line from the comic.
I don't know, i feel the scene where he tells them they are locked in with him was more intense.
The doctor may not know but he is with the safest inmate he can possibly be with.
Its telling that he always calls him Daniel. He has so much respect for him that he will always be like a brother to each other. Niteowl is the only hero he respects
He is also the only true friend he has ever had.
Mixed in with that is that Rorschach both respects and is wary of how Nite Owl has not consumed Dan Dreiberg the way Rorschach consumed Walter Kovacs. Being a man of few words, Rorschach just calls him Daniel as that says it all where he's concerned.
I don’t even wanna know what Rorschach did in there…
My only guess is he smushed him into a toilet.
Took a piss. He has an STD so he pees some blood.
Now I got mental images
Gave him a lethal swirly.
@@alexandercanella4479 That looks pretty uh, brown to me.
I feel like something not talked about enough is the fact that Rorschach doesn't ask where his mask is, he specifically says "Where's my face?". He doesn't see himself as a person anymore, he only sees himself as the masked vigilante.
In the book it was made more clear that Rorschach went completely insane after he killed the two dogs and the child murderer. Before that moment he referred to himself as "Kovacs pretending to be Rorschach" e.g. still a decent human being.
To be fair, he DID say that the person behind the mask died that night.
He wasn't joking.
He's like Batman minus money plus killing.
Till this day it’s a mystery what product miss Jupiter used to keep her hair so smooth and manageable during all her fight scenes.
I know right? It really does have the perfect balance of bounce and control.
I think she uses the tears of the corrupt mixed with their blood as conditioner.

0:42 they face say it all. "Just like old time"

2:52 Cleanup on aisle 4!
I like how they used this scene (among others) to help establish how badass fighters they are so that when they have the fight with Ozymandias at the end, it shows how much more of a badass Ozymandias is.
This is absolutely the best superhero movie ever, didn't find any superhero movie even close to this.
Something tells me Rorschach killed the guy by slamming his head multiple times on the sink than flushed him in the toilet till it was stopped up.

Malin Akerman was brilliant as Silk Spectre II. Sadly she lost that stardom after watchmen and got side roles in insignificant films
Make her blonde and you have a accurate black Canary from the comics picture it just picture it it's very easy
Maybe even huntress!
Black Canary should be a bombshell with great curves plus Malin is a bit tan for the role
She has such a cool and badass presence as Silk Spectre. She looked so fierce in the slow motion prison fight scene 0:48. She's a great actress and very sexy.
This movie is a level above all of the other superhero movies where it looks like the script is the last thing they came up with in a day. The writing is fantastic
Fun fact: the security guard that said don't move is the other half of Batman who seconds to Ben Affleck Batman during the stunts
I love that the guard got distracted giving Silk Spectre the advantage to knock him out. Silk Spectre is a skilled fighter 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛
Jackie Earl Hayley deserved an Oscar nom.

To be honest..rorschach would break out of prison by himself
That's one of the main points of this scene. They show up to save him but the riot is already happening and Rorschach is already loose. Hell he's even wandering around the prison and "cleaning up" before leaving.
"WHERE'S MY FACE!" is the last thing you want an inmate to scream at you during a riot.
I love how they seem to be dancing while fighting :) Perfect casting.
watchmen is one of my all time favorite movies. Its a masterpiece.
Absolutely one of the best Snyder movies
I realize every action movie does this kind of thing, so… ok fine. But in real life, if you saw someone (or multiple someones) beat that many guys that easily, would you really keep trying to fight them? Nah. You’d get outta there.
You might feel real smart for that comment, but this is a Snyder super hero film. Which by all means says "flush reality, please", just Rorschach it...okay?
@@rictusmetallicus As if any other superhero film is realistic either.
no there are some stupid people who like to be beat up constantly and it happens in movies very often.

I like the part when the inmate got hit in a non vital area and laid down anyway. Such good teamwork by the prisoner's, taking naps cause they lost the tag game.
Main Question is, would you destroy Dr Manhanttan for having pets if the warp.
I dunno, after seeing them go through half the hallway, having a nap after you get away with only a kidney shot or something instead of stilleto spin kick to face is probably a good idea.
You've never been in a fight in your life, have you?
1. If I saw those two mowing through the other prisoners, I'd probably take a dive too, rather than hanging in for a worse beat-down.
2. You want to punch Giant Blue-Penis God's girlfriend? You go right ahead, be my guest. I *do not* want a piece of that action.
A kidney or liver shot can put you down pretty damned quick, or so I've heard.

"and the other thing" 🤣
Probably the fight stunt coordinator from Hong Kong , he comes back at the end
Massively underrated comment.

Rorschach needs to see a doctor, the man must have a urinary issue if he's peeing blood.
So much blood that it shuts down the toilet and floods the floors.
I guess it's one of those strange super hero infections when you stay up all night cleaning up the city
This is funnier in the german version because rorschach says he has to do SMALL buissnes
This music really makes the scene even more amazing
It took a while for me to warm up to Zack Synder's "WATCHMEN" when it was released in March 2009, and when I tried to watch this movie, I fell asleep and didn't wake up until near the end credits, so I eventually got this movie on DVD and BluRay, and I have a better understanding of it, but this was still a very visual and graphic movie, especially for Warner Bros. and Paramount, and Legendary, this remains a very unique movie!
Wouldn't have thought that little guy had that much blood.
They hold more blood than what you'd expect. At least that's what a friend told me.
5 liters on average person i'd say. tore off one's head or cut all major arteries... you know that cutting radial or brachial artery will cause unconsciousness in 30-90 secs, but if you'd cut open few of them, blood loss would be severe in ten or fifteen seconds.
Thats not a normal size. He's a compact.
God I love this movie. Rorschach was awesome
While Snyder obviously knows how to craft amazing action sequences, it is kind of funny that he takes Watchmen, a story that satirizes Super hero comics, and makes the most Super hero comic book-y movie out of it.
Well, watchmen is indeed a super hero comic, and watchmen was indeed a superhero comic book movie.
I don't see it that way. I've always seen _Watchmen_ - comic and movie both - as contemplation of how human nature and geopolitics would play out in a comics setting. If you want deconstructions of the superhero genre, _Worm_ and _The Boys_ (the comic, not the Amazon series) deconstruct it to the point of breaking their own rules just to drive the point home harder. (The Amazon series, in fixing events for better flow and actual broadcast suitability, wound up making a _Watchmen_ style contemplation)
slow motion makes action scenes so much better, especially 1:45 of this scene, nice legs.
They changed Rorschach getting his mask back from the graphic novel, and I think this is infinitely more epic.
02:20 that's a great shot right there. This movie all-around is a masterpiece.
"Don't kill me!"
Clearly the doctor learned NOTHING talking to Walter.
No, in the comic you see him horrifying his middle class friends in casual conversation during dinner as his voice becomes the same dull, expressionless monotone as Rorschach and begins talking about the terrible reality Rorschach forces him to see. We realize that Rorschach has infected him with the same brutal, existential despair he lives with.
@@NoJusticeNoPeace thank you for explaining buuuuut literally talking about the movie. I read the comics, i know.
@@NoJusticeNoPeace I interpret the OP's comment to mean that the doctor should have realized the Rorschach doesn't murder innocent people.
Silk Spectre and Nite Owl II were so happy they get to kick ass after a long time!

"Excuse me, have to visit the men's room."
That door swinging part is just class mwah
Rorschach: What do you see doctor ?
Doctor: More than you with that mask on, that's for sure.
Honestly this movie is so underrated. It doesn't get the credit it deserves. The characters are solid, the cinematography is phenomenal and the plot is absolutely amazing.
Some of the film scenes are remade with breathtaking faithfulness to the graphic novel. Trouble is, there's a lot more story content in the 12-part comic book. I reckon you'd need 3 films to really do it justice. But what was actually done in the Watchmen film was done very well, for sure. It just left me wanting for more.
@@frglee
Unpopular opinion, I know, but I felt the story in the comics was unnecessarily padded. The movie did it better.
Other than altering Ozy's "big event" (changed from a faux-alien incursion to nuking the cities Dr.M style), this tracked very closely to the graphic novel, almost to the point that for (I'm guessing) over 5/6ths of the movie you can't see where Snyder made any obvious directorial decisions. Either he's so good that you can't see his touch... or he didn't do anything for most of the movie except use the graphic novel as a storyboard. I liked the movie but cannot see what Snyder did with it.

Not gonna lie, before seeing the blood flowing out of the bathroom, I assumed Rorschach peed on the little guy as a display of dominance, before leaving him to his fate in the riot.
Funny thing is, they legit just thought he was taking a piss. 😅😅😅
Pissing blood
Turns out, he was just gonna flush a piece of 💩.
In the comic, he's not in costume; and Nite Owl and Silk Spectre didn't see the Big Figure try to hide in the men's room. As they were waiting for Rorschach to finish up, Nite Owl tells a story of how he lost a perp because he needed to take a piss and his costume was to cumbersome to get out of it quickly. He said he then redesigned his costume.
Malin Akerman would been a great Wonder Woman, she just really closely resembles the comic book version
If the prisoners had been smart, they would have assisted Nite Owl and Silk Spectre in breaking Rorschach out of prison, and then heartily thanked them both afterwards.
