Viggo's performance is Oscar worthy. I love this movie.
And William Hurt was actually nominated for his short role as Richie. That’s how good this shit was.
Not really....
Damn straight.
@@SpinningbacKFisT ok lol. It's worthy of more Oscars than most movies that have Oscars. What do you like? Revenant lol
@@Heavy_C I was about to reply how great I thought William Hurt was and saw you beat me to it!!
Viggo Mortensen has always been one of my favorite actors and there's very few that could have been better cast for this movie. His mild mannered demeanor coupled with the ability to turn a scene into something electrifying is awesome to watch. The story of a once corrupt bad guy (now good guy) who has turned his life around and settled in a small town but still knows how to take care of business, if he needs to, is one we can all get into. I've watched it several times and it never gets old.
Loved him in “ Eastern Promises “
one of my favorite movies of its era. I was bullied in high school and the scene where the son goes berzerk on the douches is incredibly gratifying.
Me too. I knew to never go into the boy's room if others were in there. I loved this scene. Wish I knew how to do that then. Oh, how I wish!!!
The full version is well worth seeing. Violent, but the movie's cast and acting portrayals are the real gem.
David Cronenburg who did the Fly remake directed this .
@@williamnorthrup2335 you could have atleast spell his name right...
@@emillyyelen5169 he may not have known how in the time he had to reply ?
Yes , enjoyed the 🍿 movie.
I met Viggo Mortensen at LAX in 2010 while working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He was so humble and unassuming. You would had never known he was a movie star by the way carried himself.
Always appreciate the acting of Ed Harris
they could've done a whole movie with him and that wicked make-up😳 and just being a 'boss' rollin' heads😤🤪🙌🙋♂check sweet dreams and pollock😁✌😎
I checked this movie out from Blockbuster not long after it came out. This movie is definitely worth watching.
What’s Blockbuster?
@@D-MF-L Blockbuster was the largest video rental store before streaming became a thing. They are now out of business.
That's hilarious what's Blockbuster? got to be a sheltered youngster of a Shaolin priest no not even that 🤔👀🤭 Tarzan's great great grandson on a remote 🏝️.

'A History of Violence' is a great movie. It was never really promoted but it is high class stuff all the way through. Not a Disney film. Extraordinarily and necessarily violent. Sometimes it's better to not find someone you were looking for.
One of the best movies of the 2000s.. will never forget it
William Hurt has 5 minutes on screen and he's freaking good.
All the actors are pretty good in this masterpiece !
When Ed Harris is in a movie, you’re damn sure it’s good.
🗣facts🙌🙋♂😁✌😎
Did you see him & Viggo in 'Appaloosa,' mentioned right above you, here? It's a nice treat.
I'm a big fan of Viggo as Aragorn, so always struggled to appreciate his roles in these sorts of films. So this commentary was really good. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Even better in Eastern Promises. I suggest you watch it if you haven't.
@@MrWookie1981 Thanks for that. I'll check it out 🙂
Great movie!
Excellent cast, direction, etc.
The kind of movie you want to own & watch over & over again.
This movie was greatly underrated, great story and acting...
This is one of the best "not well known" films I know of. It's excellently acted, and the twists and turns of the story make the movie much more than merely "engaging." Thank you for this reminder!
a confident mild manner man is a most deadliest kind of man
Agree. We had a big guy at work in the depot ( I am talking 1973 ) One of the most helpful quiet amiable people i have ever met .he was in his 50s and did his ww2 stint in France and Germany .One of the other truckers was telling me he hated Germans and actually executed some prisoners who had surrendered. It was all hushed up .But it was hard to associate a cold blooded act like that to him .
Edit had no cause to dis her husband as he returned to the table. He was doing his best for his family and she should see that.
A great movie, Viggo, does a great job of acting, his character and the fight scenes are believable as is the story.
Great movie. Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris are two of my favorite actors.
Enjoyed this short recap. Ill definetly watch the movie in its entirity now. The cast is great from the recap as well. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨
Wow! What a riveting story! I'm just glad no one got hurt.
John Hurt
@@albertandrews130 no i didn't.
I saw this movie a while ago. Great movie - kept me guessing who Viggio really was. His actions gave it away with little room for doubt. The interaction with “Richie” was a good bit longer than shown and filled in some blanks.
Did you know Steven Seagal was looking for Richie haha
@@freespeech4023 After all these years, the search ends. 👍🏻
For me this film was a big surprise. My only reason to watch it when it came out is because I'm a fan of Viggo. Every scene from beginning to end is so addictive. And I love the redeeming factor in the end.
One of my favorite underrated movies. I still have it on DVD.
A great movie, and a fantastic re-cap. Thank you.
One of my favorite movies right up there with Mr Brooks 👍😁 I bought it when it 1st came out on DVD and still have it and watched it dozens of times it never gets old lol 😉🤷♂️
Never heard of the movie but I'll be looking it up now!! Great story line!! It also shows no matter how hard you try your past will always seek u out!!
Great recap! 😙👌 But just one correction: He doesn't kill Leland instantly with that headshot, you can see (and hear) him choking on his blood right afterwards while his jaw is blown off.
I give this 10 out of 10. Great story and acting.
Excellent movie. Your recaps are succinct and extremely well done. I enjoy them.
Thank you very much!
That final scene is chilling. There's no dialogue. Only Sarah gets up. She has no idea what Tom/Joey actually is. Edie and Jack don't move; they're terrified. They've met the most brutal killers and realize that Tom/Joey is more dangerous than all of them combined. Tom only looks "normal". Tom didn't kill-off Joey, he is Joey. Tom's the creation, the man Joey decided he'd like to be but isn't. Years after Joey supposedly left his violence behind he can still easily and unemotionally kill the most deadly men imaginable without missing a beat. Is he a hero? The answer is decidedly No.
You got that absolutely backwards. Sara now knows she will forever be safe as Joey is a warrior only when need be. Ask yourself, why do women love the bad boys?
He's not the same man because he chose to leave that life behind, at one time he wanted that life and now he doesn't, he wants a life without criminality, a good life. Tom is a name to describe the person he is now and Joey is the man he used to be but is no longer. Him using his previous skills to protect himself and his family from the men like he used to be, evil men, is not his old self coming out.
Anyone who thinks there a tough guy watch this movie.
It has a humbling message.
Anyone who thinks _where_ a tough guy?
I forgot about this gem of a film. Thankyou for the reminder.
Good movie thanks for bringing it back up
I need to put on my list of 'movies to watch again and again'
By the way, thank you for sharing.
Totally evil depraved sociopath killers those two and they get what’s certainly coming to them. As to them being on same level of bad men as the head mobster said well he would say something like that.
Lesson here is everyone has their own darkness so be aware for not unleash them out of their shadows.
This is such a fantastic movie.
Viggo is another of those actors who has been passed over for accolades far too many times.
"Eastern Promises" and "Appaloosa" are two of those passes and are also fantastic movies.
"Eastern Promises"😤🙌🙋♂ride on😁✌😎
Vigo's best movie, imho.
Also the most satisfying bully beat down ever.
Thanks for this recap. It might inspire others to go and watch the full movie. This was good, but in 15 minutes it can't offer the full impact of the movie.
Once the wife understands what Tom is capable of she begins to have fear of him. He is still Tom, he has not been aggressive toward her but she fears him just the same.
Often that is how people treat returning veterans of war. They have fear when they fully comprehend that person is capable of snuffing people. It's no wonder veterans seldom talk about what they have seen and done, they don't want to frighten their family and friends. I have fellow veterans of Vietnam whose families think they were in the rear echelon, maybe a cook, or truck mechanic because they have never mentioned being in real combat.
Tom came to his senses, did not want to be a part of the violence. He somehow managed to slip away, earn enough money to buy a diner and raise a family. That was what he really wanted. The mobsters as usual had that, "We are bigger then you", mentality and weren't smart enough to leave "Joey" alone. They paid dearly for their ego.
I have watched this movie twice and was moved by it both times. I see people I know being pushed into situations that Tom faced. Wanted to be a decent law abiding person but people just don't have enough sense to leave them alone. Because they seek to avoid confrontation, the bullies consider them as weak. It can be a deadly mistake. A few days ago I watched a video of a guy on a bus in a big city, minding his business, two thugs start to harass him. So at next stop he decides to get off. Thugs figure he's scared and start to push him around. Big mistake. That guy can hit like a prize fighter, close inside punches that send the thugs falling backwards. They both need medical care. He didn't want to hurt anyone but when threatened he became defensive and dangerous.
There is a look we share when us veterans detect another vet. Some wear shirts or hats that depict how they served. That's good. It suggests they have dealt with that part of their life and are moving forward.
Friends and family probably know and have accepted that they associate with someone who has been trained to combat an enemy. That is therapeutic for all of them.
Excellent analogy honestly with the violence Veterans have done while serving who also wish to leave that part of their life behind.
As for dealing with thugs, usually just a stare is enough to make them understand. Though in my personal experience simply asking them, "How does it end?" can be sufficiently unnerving too.
Yes, a couple of times I endured listening to lunacy about how I was going to get my ass kicked bla bla bla.
On those occasions I politely let the moron rant until he was finished and then calmly told him," This ends when I hear you say three words."
They I merely explained what would occur.
You will take a swing. When you do I break your arm above and below the elbow. Then I will pancake your elbow and dislocate your shoulder. Prior to the arrival of the ambulance you will look at your arm and begin to scream,
"CUT IT OFF."
Once I hear that, I walk away. That is how this ends. Take a swing at me and it begins.
That will sound like bravado obviously, I could careless. It works.
Have I ever heard another scream those three words? I will leave that to your imagination.
Cheers. 🇺🇲
@@johnmiranda3641 I once saw a shirt, "Start no shit, there'll be no shit".
Viggo is an amazing actor. Check out his performance in "Green Book."
I preferred Gaddafi's Green Book
Unusual plot, well-acted, and some memorable scenes. Excellent movie.
The storyline was amazing and the action sequences were kind of suspenseful to me personally
Viggo is one of the greatest actors of this century and the last
Excellent actors, an excellent cast, and great direction ( Director )... * I most certainly will ( watch ) this superb movie, and thank you for sharing the video... " Semper Fi " Mike in Montana :)
Great film. Loved when it first came out. Still love to this day
Viggo is one of those actors that you wish you saw more but glad he isn’t in a lot.
Good recap of an underrated movie.
I always liked Stephen McHattie from his James Dean movie. Then I didn’t see him for a long time. Showed up on Seinfeld as Elaine’s therapist
A great, unsuspecting film. Loved it.
Vigo is a great actor. He was also fantastic in Carlito’s Way.
11:29 "Tom looks back at her with a grieved expression"
"Meatloaf for dinner, but no ketchup?"
I personally believe it's too bad that movies like these are what we need to relax after a hard day's night.
This is a great film and this makes me want to watch it again. It's been a few years since I've seen it. Viggo Mortensen is superb in this as is Maria Bello.
Great movie. Even more great..I get to watch so many all again on this shorter..narrative version. Being right up my alley .
Fantastic, thank you very much. btw, I hit the like button three times, just to be sure. : )
Yay, thank you!
FAN-TASTIC ending! Only a family this dynamic could endure such an intense scenario. Talk about rolling with the punches, eh?!👍
Used to own this one. Viggo and Ed are hella actors.
I never heard if this movie but man does it sound like a masterpiece.
It is. Watched the movie Just one time, years ago, and remember it pretty good.
Slow pace, very intense, violent scenes rare, but incredibly raw and powerfull, because they looked real. None of the High Gloss Hollywood Blockbuster violence.
Like, you can watch someone get ripped into pieces in an Blockbuster Action movie, blood fountains all over, and you Just think: wow, great Special effects.
In this movie you cringe and get Phantom pain when a Guy gets His nose smashed in and know without a doubt and visual evidence that this punch put His nasal bone into his brain and killed him instantly.
Even the emotions: there is No Hero, No Happily ever after.
Just the damage violence and a dark past left behind
That stairs scene brings back so many memories when I was a kid. 😏
I saw this in the theater back when it came out. Excellent movie. I highly recommend it.
This is a great movie! I stumbled across it a few years back. Perfect title for the movie too
The movie The Road is incredible and no one knows about it, I read the book first and it was exactly how I imagined it, And Viggo was perfect to play the role of the father
The 1997 graphic novel on which this movie is based is also worth checking out, same title, by John Wagner (story) and Vince Locke (art). Not for the faint-hearted: betrayal, torture, violence, friendship, loyalty, karma.
This and vanishing point are the best movies he has started in.
Awesome review
Glad you enjoyed it
Such a damn good movie. Everytime I watch it, it's just as enjoyable as the first time..
The Road is another great movie. Adapted from a Cormac McCarthy novel.

Saw it upon release in the cinema years ago, loved it then and it remains one of my favourite by Cronenberg.
Excellent telling of the synopsis

As always, if Viggo is in it he owns it.
I’ve watch that movie at least a half a dozen times. Two thumbs up👍🏻👍🏻
Amazingly done movie.

Ed Harris was funny in this. And twisted . Viggo did a good job. "Joey".

Amazing movie and great comic adaptation. Haven't watched it in a long time.
One of Viggos many Great Films, the Gentleman has talent!
Two great actors playing villains: Ed Harris (looks badass) and the late William Hurt. That was quite a guarantee for me to see the movie.
