I never was a John Cena fan. His onstage character just never resonated with me. However, as a pro-wrestling fan, I definitely do respect his ring work.
He had a lot of great matches, and promos on the mic.
I know Kurt Angle, JBL, and others helped launch John Cena, but to me it was his feud with Edge that really solidified John Cena as a legend. His TLC match with Edge is in my opinion both Cena and Edge's greatest match. Sidenote, aside from the TLC match, Cena looked best to me in the ring when he worked with Benoit. Also, be careful not to overly praise any man. As nice as Cena can be, he's doing a job.
