It's similar to how you would do it on a car or on Shimano brakes. The Avid process is much easier.

The new V4s are awesome. Have a pair on my 2020 V10. The new straighter levers make a difference. The modulation & instant bite are phenomenal. Only have to give the levers a light touch & it wants to send you OTB. Well done Hope. Also have Hope ventilated disks on both my Santa Cruz V10s. Have pre-ordered a pair of the new Hope Pro 5 hubs for my 2020 V10.

My Hope V4 brakes were just as you describe for several weeks and now they can't even stop me at walking pace. I'll have to see what's up, do a bleed and check the pads but this earliest I've ever had an issue with a brake.

    Hope Tech 3 E3?
I always take out the brake pads before and replace with a dummy brake pad. You don't want oil in your pads. Even if it is pretty easy to burn it off with a gas burner. Never knew I would need a gas burner to go bicycling!

If you have a longtail cargo bike or a tandem then this method is pretty useless unless you have a friend to help. I struggled to get anywhere this way and decided to do it how you would do other brands that have a bleed port, fit a syringe to the bleed nipple. Attach the pipe to the syringe and make sure it won't come off (cable tie). Open bleed nipple, pull on the syringe to create a vacuum and then pump the brake lever, top up oil, keep doing this cycle of adding some suction with the syringe and pumping the lever, checking oil levels after each round. Worked a treat for me. Makes a lot less mess too.

pretty sure that bleed procedure can be done a little easier, example formula R0 brakes :-) but love HOPE products,I have the Enduro wheels and pro 4 hubs.

It's a good thing that DOT brake fluid is not absolutely aweful stuff, which should not be in contact with your skin... 😐

I've had so many issues with these E4 brakes. I've inherited a bike from a friend while he's away and already put a ton of money into his bike. I've bled these multiple times several different ways. No way there's air on my lines. It sat in storage for awhile and the pistons where seized. I fixed that issue, but now I just don't have any power. barely any. At the lever, it sounds like it's sucking air in. I need need to get this thing going otherwise I'm out the cost of the drive train and dropper I put on. Can you give me an idea of what parts I should replace. Sounds like the piston is leaking air? So possibly the seals?

I have to say every time I go to bleed these bloody brakes i watch a couple of these instruction videos, shit I even use a syringe instead of just pouring the bottle. I've tried this method, the bottom bleed method, u name it, I've tried it and the end result is nothing like what these brakes were like when I first got them. I'd honestly take V brakes over disks! Can u tell I've had a shit afternoon bleeding brakes!

Bleeding these is a pain in the ass. This method doesn't work well when your brake hose is much longer at least for me.

It's a total nightmare, much swearing, throwing stuff out of the garage, oil spurting on clothes and even in my face. But fit a syringe to the bleed nipple and it becomes doable. Can even leave the bleed nipple open.

what a shitty method this was to bleed Hope brakes. Hope is a great company and makes great products, but they really need to get it together with their tutorials. This is embarrassing and makes their brakes seem waaaaay more complicated than they actually are to bleed.
