I went to the bike store and asked them if they could fix this for me they said leave the bike and we’re gonna fix it in one week, I said hell no and came back home and fixed it myself with the help of you guys, was very helpful and big THANKS TO YOU GUYS!!!
Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
Correction..dogs have best friends.
As a cat owner this is absolutely correct ahahhaha
Hey watch it!
Cats are the chuck Norris of the animal world
as a cat OBVIOUSLY CORRECT

3 meals a day + cleanup my poops & messes & YOU TOO can claim my royal clan on your human resume
the 1 minute summary at the end is so smart more tutorials should have this.
Just found your channel and an truly grateful. Your comfort with your imperfection and the approachability you bring has given me the confidence to tackle my first ever bike maintenance tasks 😬
Today, with your help, I successfully degreased and lubed my chain, and I changed my own disc brake pads!!!
Thank you two so much
Method 2 is genius.. messed about at my front for hours and couldn’t get the Rotor to stop running.. piece of paper and damn fixed in 30 seconds :) thanks
Same
I appreciate all those little nuances that Macky gives on all of these tech videos. Really really helps. You two make quite the pair. Kudos.
One Hundred percent agee! These guys are the dynamic duo, so good!
That paper method is a good idea, I dont know why it never occured to me before.
I'll definitely remember that for future reference, thanks
Method #3 is what I usually use. I use a light source like a lamp and place it on the other side of the caliper. What it does is the light makes it easier for me to see if the rotor is centered between the pads. Kinda like a "light at the end of the tunnel" approach. I hope I make sense. :)
Pro tip... Slowly tighten one bolt barely tight and then the other bolt barely tight and go back and forth until they're both tightened to the correct torque. Don't tighten one down completely and then the other down completely, you will misalign the caliper 9 times out of 10 doing it that way.
What do you mean by "one bolt" and "the other bolt"? There is only one pad adjustment screw. What or where is that other pad adjustment screw?
@@romanryuninvalek487 He is talking about the two bolts that mount the caliper to the fork (if the front caliper) or frame (for rear caliper).
@@shanefrank3281 Thank you.
Thanks you're number one!
when I keep on tightening the caliper keeps moving in wards which’s makes it keep on rubbbing I keep trying to pull it back but it just keeps on going back to its organized spot of rubbing idk how to fix it
I love how you guys do the quick recaps at the end of the video. For someone who’s watched the video before and just needs a refresher this is a big timesaver. Happy to see Maxxis is working with you guys🤘
Syd and Macky!! I was singing your praises Saturday after your instructions quickly helped me fix the brake rub problem at the trail head. You both have such great content that have helped in so many ways. Thank you!
thanks again for this video. bought my first bike with hydraulic disc brakes and the wheel was dragging really bad, followed along with the video, and after step one got 80% better. Moved to step two, and now there is no drag at all. Really appreciate the help and putting together such great material!
This is so helpful! I like the trial and error being shown because I'm always trying to fix my bike by myself and all the mistakes I definitely would have made are noted and preempted. Thank you!!
Im really enjoying these Repair videos. Great choices for common issues so far. Wish you had made these videos before I learned some of this stuff the HARD way. Good job, Syd! Thanks.
I learned the hotdog/hamburger method. For the third method, I find that having a light and something behind the caliper, like paper, to see what adjustments are needed. Thankfully, I have never had to use that method, but have seen the benefit of it.
Hi Syd and Matt! Thanks to you guys, I centred my front brakeS on my hardtail this afternoon using the EZ method (number one) for the very first time. It took about six minutes and worked like a dream. Result! Nuff respect from your number one fan in Blighty.
This is the clearest and most entertaining video I’ve seen on how to center disc brake calipers. Thank you!
You guys ROCK! After fixing a flat tire on front wheel, I kept hearing a rubbing noise on front disc brake caliper. After watching your tutorial I nailed it using a combo of 2nd and 3rd methods. Wheel spins forever with no irritating rubbing sound and no resistance! Now to hit the bike trails at the park! Thanks!
Thank you for putting a quick summary at the end of these videos. It is so nice to watch these and use the summary when doing the wrenching.
Massive thanks on this one. I changed my rotors and pads and had trouble eliminating rubbing on the front, your paper fix worked a treat!
That was really great information! Now I finally know what has been causing the mysterious rubbing noise on my bike for years! Thanks for sharing!
My Magnum Pathfinder had both the front and back calipers right out of the box. This channel helped me fix both of them in less than five minutes. I cannot thank this channel and this video enough!
Method 2 is pure and solid gold!! Thanks a bundle.
This was a really good simple maintenance video. I'm going to try this on my front brake tomorrow. Great job Syd.
Thank you!! I just put together a brand new ebike and had this issue. This video got right to the point and was super clear and easy. The whole fix took just a couple of minutes. Thanks!!
Thank you! Glad the first three methods don't require special tools. Best channel about bike repairs I think.
This is a really great series! As an...okay-ish road bike mechanic, I appreciate learning how to better care for my new mountain bike!
Watched a bunch of alignment videos but this is the one that did the trick for final adjustment - method 2 with the slip of folded paper. Thanks.
Loved the paper trick. Just used it to center the back brake on my wife,s bike. It worked perfectly.
Yes! This issue can be so aggravating to try and fix!
The very first method worked for my Tektro brakes on my Scott. Thanks a ton guys!
Another helpful walkthrough that saved me time this weekend. Thank you!
Thank you for making this video, I just stopped my break from rubbing . You just saved me a 30 min trip.to the bike shop...Bless you for this :) I will be watching more of your vids....Keep them coming!
I tried method 2 - perfect! Thank you!!!
Top tip about fingers and rotors! Took the tip off one last Christmas doing method 3! Lesson learnt!
Your vids have been a great help to me Syd. My new Shimano XTs and Ice Rotors were so close, between pads and pistons, that they rubbed and I manually loosened the mounts and retightened them incrementally while spinning the wheel. Problem is I couldn't see a gap and that is a problem with some brakes having such tight tolerances. Feeling for vibration was what finally worked.
Thank you! Helped me fix my FX1.
Thank you Syd and Macky for this video and great demonstration and advice. I purchased an E BIKE with disc brakes and right out of the box it had a rotor rubbing noise. It took s few tries but I figured it our and make the adjustment. Thank you again. Happy Trails!!
Method 2 helped me! Thank you! I also slightly adjusted the tension cable to make it a little looser. That also helped.
I used the technique with the piece of paper and it worked like a charm! Thank you.
Great video. Very simply explained and demonstrated. Clear and concise, perfect
Another great video! Procedure explained clearly and simply. Thanks!
Nice video, I love the approach of having someone exploring and some with the certainty of the repair and be collaboration. Best youtube approach to share knowledge ever.
I can't thank you enough for this great video! I assembled my new mountain bike and noticed that the front break disc was rubbing against the break pads. I didn't want to start using the bike before fixing it. I couldn't. It was going on my nerves. Before taking the bike to the repair shop, I decided to look up for a video on CZcams and came across this video. The 2nd way (with the paper) fixed the problem beautifully. What a relief! The repair shop would cost me €60 to €80. I fixed the disc, thanks to this video, in just 10 minutes.
Awesome! First trick fixed it for me!! Thanks!
Had a brake problem so I took in to my shop. Didn't really fix it. So I thought of Syd Fixes Bikes and there was another outstanding video. Problem fixed. Thank you so much. Take care, Al
Great video. Thank you. This really helped on my back brakes. Used the paper method and it was spot on first time.
Thank you so much, the method with the paper save my day !!!
This was a massive help. I’m brand new to mtb world so still learning
Great instructional video. Especially liked the synopsis version at the end. Method 3 worked in my case!
Dudes you’ve just saved me going insane. Been fighting with my rear brake all day and couldn’t get it quite how I want it. Tried the paper trick and straight away it’s perfect. Many thanks from Scotland.
Great video, I managed to fix the problem myself with your help.
Awesome explanation. Thank you.
Love your energy!
Paper fix worked for me. Thank you!
I hadn't seen this channel before. I absolutely love the way its formatted. Feels like we are all learning together!
Had not tried method two, good tip. Thanks Syd.
Thx you guys saved my life with my bike the first method worked for me
The paper trick worked for me . Thanks!
Syd is my spirit animal!
Tighten the thru axle the same amount if you remove the wheel. Sometimes tightening it looser or tighter than what your caliper was setup on can result in disc rub.
As I discovered today
Yes the first example worked for me you 2 rock!
Used this trick today, worked perfectly with method 1. Thank you
Thank you so much. Your video helped me solve that exact problem. THANK YOU!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys saved me a trip to the bike shop. The "HOTDOG" worked on the front brake unfortunately I had to do the manual center for the back brake which took a number of tries but.....Everything is rolling fine now.
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful!
I Havnt tried to this yet but the video was great. as someone new to fiddling with the bike it was an easy video to follow! I'll be trying in the morning! Thanks from the UK. 👍🏻
Thanks a million!! 2nd Method worked for me.
The paper hot dog bun method worked! It brought me joy. Thank you very much for the solution.
Excellent video. Thanks
Perfect just what I needed. Thanks.
Y’all helped me solve my rub, thanks so much!
Hey Syd & Mackie, greetz from the UK. Love your videos, love the neat little touches that you don't get from manuals. You take away the fear factor of messing with your bike. Hope you and yours are well in these Covid times. Keep making the vids!
Nice Idea with the Paper! THX for sharing!
The first way fixed my repetitive grinding problem, I'm new! Thanks
You fixed me up, Syd! Thanks.
You guys keep making the videos I need. So either you're telepathic, or my bike is just completely jacked up. Thanks guys
thanks a lot the 2nd method worked like a charm
#2 That's such a lovely trick. Thanks so much for that. For me, I had to fold the paper twice, and only put it on the "touching" side. Worked instantly.
O.K. That was good. Thanks for producing these fix-it videos.
Brilliant guys. I didn't think the paper trick would work, but it did and first time. Thanks a lot.
Approachable and expert simultaneously
Tried the first method and it worked!
Fixed such an annoying problem in just a few seconds with method one. Thank you!
Thanks for the time & money saving info.
thanks! your how-to's are the best. easily explained and to the point 👌
Works like magic , tqvm
Another common problem I've encountered is sticky pistons/seals. The symptom is that you'll hear rubbing, but only after braking, and it will eventually go away after 10s of seconds or maybe a few minutes. I'm sure you guys have already done a video on cleaning disc brake pistons/seals, it just isn't covered in this video. As always, a great instructional video! Thanks guys.
Thank you for the paper trick
I just tried the paper method on my XTR brakes ( I didn’t think it would actually work) and it totally worked! Thanks Syd!
Wow the hotdog paper trick is life changing! I've had a ton of issues with brake rotors not being straight, I'll try that next time
The 1 minute recap is brilliant......subscribed!
definitely..!...and the basic events list...very good ideas.
Best video I have seen on this subject. Well done!
Im learning so much from your videos, really helpful instruction. Thank you.
Just what I needed after being stumped the whole day over my front wheel not realigning well. The first method here really did the trick. Thanks!
Muy bonito video, felicitaciones desde Colombia
Method 2 did it for me, thanks.
Great video, your methods work well and made for clear understanding of how to adjust!
Saved me a trip to the shop! Thanks!!!
Works great on first method
